i actually hated coleco vision but now days i wish i still had mines and i didnt hate it like it like i hate playstation i mean like donkey kong jr was fuckin hard to beat at the age of 3 lol
My brother had a 'perfect pitch' in the baseball game - if you didn't swing it was a strike and if you did you missed it. He would promise not to use it then bust it out with the game on the line lol.
That's a prototype ADAM computer in the commercial. It has two floppy drives! The system ended up shipping with one high speed cassette drive and a spot to put a second one. An external floppy drive was made available later by Coleco. As well as by a guy in New Jersey who made a floppy drive, in a metal case. Good memories.
LOL "the only system you will ever need" haha. Maybe back then you could fool an average Joe into buying this thing, but today ppl change electronics every 6 month lol
My dad bought us this system back in Xmas 1982. I remember he forgot to take off the sales ticket. He paid a little under $300. This was thee system to have around my neighborhood. I miss those days and my Colecovision.
I still have my Colecovision system. I lent the power cord and the controllers to a friend about 15 years ago who had the system minus these items and never got them back. Man I loved that system way back in the day.
WTF? @0:20.. That's not what the Adam module looks like. It uses tapes, not disks or is that some kind of duel wafer drive?? Must be a prototype or mockup.
a the nostalgia years where mullets were fashionable and women wore shoulder pads as a fashion accessory as well as big hair dos ask ur parents about it lol
Adam is still the most powerful computer ever made. They were force to discontinue it after the Pentagon found out about it's abilities. All Adams were subsequently seized and owners incarcerated and interrogated at Guantanamo. I still have mine though.. I will be taking over the planet with it soon...
@bluesgurugod If the Men In Black hadn't forced Coleco to swap the disk drive for a tape drive, you'd have been able to take over the world even sooner. There's no telling what this sort of technology could do in the wrong hands. Keep it safe. Keep it secret! I won't even begin to tell you about my attempt to overclock my Colecovision's Z80....
I had Atari 2600, 5200, Magnavox Odyssey 2, Intellivision & Commodore Vic-20 + Commodore 64. My friend had a Colecovision. Thank god for emulators!!!! Now I have ALL the above mentioned systems + ALL their games & software + about 50 other 8 & 16 bit systems + software & 1,000's of arcade games. I do love these old commercials btw. Thanks for posting.
PS: When I was 13yo I shoplifted Gorf, Donkey Kong Jr. & Bump'n Jump for said mentioned friend's Colecovision. From Child World I think.
I always thought the coleco was a better system than the 2600 but the freaking joy stick(if you can even call it that) was a pain in the ass..but difently coleco
Colecovision wasn't a crappy system at all. Adam was a piece of crap, but Colecovision actually had the best graphics of all the systems at the time. I probably spent $1000 on all that shit LOL
The ADAM doomed Coleco, and Colecovision. It was probably the worst home computer system ever to make it to market. My friend had one. Never worked right. Printer was NOISY. Not even the profits of the massively popular Cabbage Patch kids could save Coleco after that.
The quality of Colevision games was really spotty thats what did that system in. I mean their best game was Smurfs. It was fun but any self-respecting pre-teen boy felt a little lame playing that game.
Damn right it was/IS fun. I still like it. I play it on my Atari 2600, Colecovision & Commodore 64 emulators. You know what else game is surprisingly just as fun? Cabbage Path Kids! Oh, and B.C.'s Quest for Tires. All similar type games.
@whattheheck1000 Nothing period was selling after early 1984. At this time it was generally thought that gaming consoles were a thing of the past and that everyone would be upgrading to an actual computer.
@TheLastBrainLeft Very few game consoles and video games were sold after 1984; the video game industry "crashed" from $3 billion in 1982 to $100 million in 1985 - a 97 percent drop in three years. 1984 was the "crash" year - the year of the huge drop in video game sales - while 1985 was the "dead" year with the Atari 5200, Vectrex, Intellivision, Atari 2600, and Colecovision gone and the NES only available in New York City from October 18, 1985.
i really miss the 80's computer scene. it was so full of wonder and possibilities. i remember a book i had saying one day we will use a vic 20 to control everything in the home. ahh happy days
now it's just spam, virus' and generic FPS' oh and porn lots and lots of porn
I think you're right 'cause even with the Adam computer, it still wasn't like the arcade. This could have gave people a weak perception of the system afterwards.
All well, at least we can get white controllers for the system instead, that's cool.
Had one of these as a kid. Rocked. I asked my parents for the Atari 2600 expansion module and i got the Super Action Controller that we never used. Go figure. Great vid. We had the ADAM too it sucked and didn't work.

haha yeah unfortunately I got eBay bid sniped for a Colecovision system (in the last three seconds literally) for a good price that came with a crap load of games and the modulator that let you play Atari 2600 games. I at least do have a Atari 7800 and some other systems.
