  • thank you for posting this version and legendry aznavour

  • moi aussi jador!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Je suis mexicain and last year I visited Québec province. I heard a lot of french music, but when I heard this song I cried. All the feeling, the voice and the intention of Mr. Aznavour have no parallel. Right now my heart is touched again for this song. My partner (quebecois) explained me le parole de cette chanson. Très belle! In spanish could be like this: "Llévame al fin del mundo, llévame al país de las maravillas, donde me parece que la miseria sería menos penosa bajo el sol"

  • Glad too see that music can touch people even if it's not your language :')

  • jadore !!!!!!!!

  • Demaissssss

    Lindo.....

  • I was wrong and apologize: There is really an english version of this song. But I insist on the fact that it´s far from the french text. f.i. the first sentence should be "on the docks where the weight and the boredom crushes my back..."

    aso.

  • I appreciate very much the text and this translation of one of the most beautiful song of Charles, but I must confess that it´s not possible to express all the power, the poésie and the yearning of the original french text.

There was no english version of this xtremly difficult song which also requires a perfect mastery of the language, also because many sentences must be spelled very, very quickly.

Even Charles has difficulties and in some life performances, he neglects some words !!

  • hey cool mec :) sympa de penser à mettre les paroles et la traduction ;)

    Bonne continuation !

  • docks..

  • Thank you xxCorinnaxx. I was not translating the exact version of Emmenez-Moi. I displayed the lyrics of the ENglish version of the same song that he sings. I actually am learning French by translating Aznavour's songs, and I have thought of putting more Aznavour clips on youtube, with my broken translation of his sings, and let the public correct me, therefore teaching me and tons of other people how to speak, read and write French. Mail me your complete translation, and I will display it.

  • Take me to the ends of the earth Take me to the lands of wonder It seems to me that misery may be borne more easily in the sun In the bars as dusk falls, Talking of girls and love, a glass in my hand I forget all my notions of things With my thoughs I rise and fall, leaving me to marvel on the beach Where I see, arms outstretched, love who runs arms outstretched, And I hang by the neck from my dream When the bars are shut and the sailors back aboard I dream on till morn, standing alone by the
  • It's fascinating to see different people's translations.. This is some of my Dad's: Towards the docks, where the weight and dullness Crush my back They come, their bellies heavy with fruit The ships With vagabond ideas from the ends of the world they come In the blue of the reflecting sky, mirage-bringing, Leaving a pepper-scent of unknown lands eternal summers, on the sands, near-naked lives I, who have only known, all my life, The northern sky, would wash away the grey in their wake
  • i likes verry verry enigmes de la terre

  • I love Charles Aznavour. He is trully a master of french language. Yes, those who read through his lyrics and translate them will definitely master french language. WOW, i never knew he lived in california.

  • Thanks, Pepsi!

Aznavour is so marvelous he makes me want to learn French! I only took French 101 but I do speak Spanish. Soon I am going to be singing in French!

Have you ever heard of José José- el Principe de canción? (The Prince of Song) Mexican singer. He also has a tremendous quality to his voice!

    Diet Pepsi here ;o)

  • I am not making this up, but when I read French text, I understand about 80% of the words, and that's all because I used the internet, downloaded his lyrics, and using internet translators, I started translating all my favorite Aznavour songs, a few lines at a time. Now I understand his beautiful lyrics, and am learning French. I wish you happy enjoyment of all the music you like.

  • You know, Pepsi, from what little French I know and Spanish and English cognates I can tell this song was not literally translated.

But what a cool way to learn French while enjoying the music!

    I thank you plenty!

  • Are you sure he doesn't speak English? His singing is so very clear!

I heard about Charles Aznavour when I was a teen. Now I understand why my friend was always raving about him!

  • Très belle chanson. En plus çà me rappelle ma jeunesse très agréable malgré la pauvreté justement printemps été ensoleillé et plage et mer.

  • Ahh, I know all his songs off by heart. I grew up on this stuff.

Never heard the English version before, and the fact he isn't bilingual makes the english version kind of.. flat. less magical.

    Sans coeur! =)

  • The french language is soo beautiful. Too bad i don't understand a word.

  • Ha! I agree, though I'm embarrassed to say so.

  • Me too

  • For the french speaking people the english version of this song sound really weird, without any soul.

Though thanks for the the upload ! Really Interesting...

  • La Boheme is one Aznavour song which loses 90% of its French value after being translated to English. The rest of the non-French songs are good for all Aznavour appreciators who want to understand his lyrics, which are perfect. I have friends who have told me that listening to the English version of A Ma Fille - To My Daughter makes them cry. I can't decide if Aznavour's songs are perfect because of the lyrics or the music or the performances. I think they all count.

  • I agree. I believe that the strength of his lyrics is a large part of his talent.

With "Emmenez moi (Take me along)" Aznavour as a son of immigrants, wrote the song for immigrants from all countries, from all centuries...

  • @jadawin10 It does, actually. Plus he has a really strong accent, and the meaning is not the same at all...

    Very strange indeed.

  • I really started enjoying Aznavour after listening to the english version (I don't know French!)and undrestanding the true meanings of the songs. If you don't undrestand what his singing about, you realy don't know Aznavour and you are missing a lot. In his songs the lyrics are the most important!!

  • i love you for this... !!!

  • english version is horrible

  • Aznavour is Aznavour, and is the greatest. There is no question that his French songs are absolutely special, except for the song She, which sounds better in English, but his choice to sing in other languages gave my American friends to appreciate his lyrics. When he came to the U.S. my English speaking friends enjoyed his English lyrics for the songs like Deux Guitares, Je M'Voyais Deja and others.

  • the lyrics are amazings. Aznavour is all class, love his music.

  • Nature has given u a face, but u have to provide the expression. Be careful when u express, coz ur every expression will leave an impression

  • hi

    i love aznavour

    great singer

  • I didn't know that there was an English version of this song... it's pretty good, mais la version est magnifique.

  • Interesting to hear this song in English. But definitely the french version is *much* better.

  • The only Aznavour song where the English version is better than the French one is "She". But we English speaking people have to be happy with what we have. What can we do, we could not produce an original English singing Aznavour, the French did. It develops our imagination better. Hahahahaha.

  • You can also learn French...

  • Hahahaha. Funny you'd mention that. With the help of the internet, and mainly because I wanted to understand Aznavour songs, I started translating my favorite Aznavour songs on my computer, and even though I never learned French, when I read French text now, I understand about 80% of the words and guess the meaning of sentences. That's the power of Aznavour's music. I'm not kidding.

  • Good stuff. French is a beautiful language, worth the effort.

  • nice

  • i love aznavour.

c.r.a.z.y. was where i made my discovery

  • one of the best songs!!!
