The way that his owner loved him the only abuse is abuse of too much love. This horse was so pampered and loved for his was there child. they sure treated him like their child!:-)
it is often said that these horses love running, but i think they just go crazy and can´t stop it. they are just 12 month old when they start training. running is the only thing they learn. training, special diet, training, competition, training....they must go crazy after some time cause there is nothing else for them.

We were as sad and shocked as anyone, however, what was heartening was all the care, affection and communications of good wishes sent to this remarkable horse after his injury. His indominable spirit lives on thanks to individuals like yourself.
most champ racers die from injury they loved to run its in there blod he was fightinmg to stay with us but he couldent keep it up so he had to leave us no one wanted to go i havent cried in 12 years and thinking of him made me cry i was at his last race

it was a fluke thing,,he was treated like the king he deserved to be right up until the end--so give me a break with the humans are the worst commentary---humans loved that horse,,you sons of bitches
What a beautiful horse may he R.I.P but did anyone think if we didnt race them for our greed in fun and money he would still be here?? Its humans fault that happened!!!!!!

For all who call Barbaro's story one of abuse...get an education before complaining.
Hot blooded horses - raced or unraced - love to run.
Go and ride one. You'll see.
They tug and tug at the bit, and when you let 'em loose to run... watch out, it's not gonna be slow!
I am speaking of horses who have not been bred for racing - not even of the Thoroughbred breed.
They're remarkably less spirited than these tracks horses, and still run like crazy.
They love to do it.
End of story.
