But then again, I've heard some people have said that he's part of a renegade regiment, as lots of his equipment looks scavanged from Vostroyan's.

Which quite contrasts the books black libraries (or h/e it's named nowadays) sells which talk about the guard of them being individuals who win battles through sheer faith, willpower and skill. But yes, FOR THE EMPEROR!!
