Inspiring! Leave it to Cycle World to introduce this wonderful machine, and shoot a video that makes you want to bust-ass to save and buy one, or build your own. After over thirty-years of subscribing to CW and reading religeously, this bike has inspired me more than any other. Classic lines, off-road capability and a coolness that McQueen himself would surely approve of...
I like James Loughead's perspective on letting the motorcycle "be what it is". There's a sort of cultural expectation (in the modern age, at least) of making the motorcycle do what the rider wants - a desire to make the motorcycle do the conforming. I tend to be more of the mindset that every bike has their own personality, and that there's an enjoyment that can come from learning to accept each bike for what it is and not trying to make it become something that it's not.
god i hate living in nyc. dirt roads are rare and a well kept secret in the neighboring counties and even then u could only ride a couple of months a year. this video makes me feel empty, i need more. (sobbing)
one of the best videos on youtube!!! and the bike............there's few things left in this world that are real cool , but this bike is definitely one of them....
Nice riding. It looks so affordable to get some relatively suitable bike and modify it a bit, and plan to have such a cultural pastime.
I actually did the same, here in Russia. But I lacked driving license and documents on the bike, therefore tried to stay afar from road patrols.
Now I have made somewhat like scramblwr out of Russian Izh Jupiter 4, planning to get driving license and register my motorcycle. There are nice places to ride - fast shallow rivers at flats, and huge mountains.
Whoever made this video, i just have to sey to you, THANK YOU.
This is just so well done, camera work, sound, music choise. It is just so great.
Tha overall feel of 70s desert road movie, is stunning. I watched it like 5 times and i feels olmost like tarantinos movie, its getting better with every watch. :)
Oh and yeah, it wouldnt be so great wthout theese bukes ;)
Well... all I know is that I live in the Nevada desert and everyone rides a dirt bike for the dirt and street bike for the street. Nostalgia is great, but for an everyday rider it soon wears off for a better ride and modern technology. If you like to sit around and talk more than ride, get a nostalgia bike. ;)
Superb Bike!!! Same as what I do on my 1979 or 1981 Yamaha XT500 enduros every week,,,ride the country roads in Nebraska, and it's the best kept secret among those who do it. Everybody thinks showing off their ego, chrome and loud pipes on pavement is where it's at,,,well go right ahead. I've been a life long rider and said goodbye to pavement, stop lights, road ragers, & cell phone texting drivers. And ego is left in the dust when I can go 5mph or 50 mph on country roads,,,alone in peace!
Desert Sled + Jack Pine? Huh?.......Isn't that one of the oldest enduro races around, in Michigan (Jack Pine National Enduro).......Am I missing something here?

Bikes have become so sterile. Sure, they perform fantastic. But something is missing.
vorhese 7 months ago
@vorhese So true. And that is why i bought older Honda VTR Firestorm, that bike is probably only late Honda with character. :)
