i really applaud gandhi and the movie as well. i am indian but i wish that maybe the british were still ruling in india but democratically and fairly because the state the country is in is tragic. so many poor living on the streets.

Then corruption. Then illiteracy. Then resource management. I never wish the British would rule, because they were horrible and would be so again. I wish we the people actually enforce our interests upon the government. That concept doesn't exist in India...that is the root of all the problems India faces.

It isn't a lost cause or anything but the people of India have a long and arduous road ahead to deal with the problems they have. The big 3 are corruption, population and literacy. A great film. I give my kudos to Richard Attenborough and the cast + crew. He lived the best part of eight decades. This 3hr film allows you to obtain a taste of who Gandhi was. That is film making at its finest.
Who was Gandhi? Well, as I see it, he was a man who shed light on how you can make the world a better place. More just and therefore more harmonious. He did have flaws. The most visible one for me was tying himself to India. Yet, this is superseded by the universality of his approach.
