  • I had forgotten how much I used to like this.

  • I love this movie.

  • this film was really well made, especially the first part, where the cameraman is doing what is called a POV, or point of view from the main character. It makes it more personal between the audience and the main character.

  • Fredric March was, before this role, usually cast in light comedies, no one saw him as a serious actor, and so, when he got the part for Jekyll and Hyde, no one believed he would pull it off; but he was hell bent on proving them wrong, and as a result, became the first and only person to win an Oscar for a role in a Horror film.

  • you should upload the 1941 remake

  • In 1931 three classic horror stories were made into three classic films: Dracula, Frankenstein, and Jekyll & Hyde. In some ways, Hyde was also a forerunner of the Wolfman.

  • 8:12 Sorry but THAT... would scare the LIVING DAYLIGHTS out of me. I would probably end up throwing the crutches at her before bailing. :((

  • for me the best dr.jekyll film!!! absolutely!!!!

  • @TheASTRALICO I can't choose between this one and the 1920 one, I like them both

  • Did you guys notice how both of his patients "believe" him? Not trust him or anything but believe him. As for is this movie scary, I must admit I watch more horror than I should. A lot more. However this movie gives me the creeps from the first second, really. I don't know how, and maybe it's not even scary but unsettling and depressing - which is now that I think about it kind of "worse" than just being scary.

  • @AlexanderMahan thank you for uploading this. I was looking for this movie everywhere. I have a criitcal analysis essay to write on my final comparing this 1931 version and the actual novel. Thank GOD FOR YOUTUBE LOL!!!!!

  • You Could get arrested for making "Tiger's Sweat" in those days LOL

  • 8:16 Okay? How old was that girl in this movie?

  • LOL

  • BOO!!!!

  • Happy Halloween!!!!

  • RIP Robert Louis Stevenson

  • Hyde was humanity with any sort of civilized aspect stripped away; in short, he was the Neanderthal Man, an image that continued to become blatant with every transformation.

  • @diddymuck O I C

  • HOLD THE PHONE , 1ST PERSON VIEW IN THE 30'S !!!!!!

& i quote "OH HELL YEAH"

  • Thanks so much for uploading this film! I have wanted to watch it for at least six months but only now realised I could look it up on youtube.. :)

  • @hercufles exactly

  • @AlexanderMahan Right

  • what i love about this it has a methapore wich i like verybody has hyde inside him or her someone who we dont show too other people because we are ashamed of it because its not accepteble we try to control hour inner demon and this story is all about what happen if someones dark side changes shape in 1 person.

  • the "i can walk sir!" part scares me..

  • @vrblitz Me 2

  • Great movie! Not at all "scary" by today's standards but stylishly made with brilliant performances by March and a very sexy Hopkins. Must also have been quite raunchy by the standards of the time.

  • Richard Armitage bears a striking resemblance to Fredric March. It's almost uncanny.

  • @PharaohHazard Yeah

  • *sighs contently* gotta love the classics!

  • @RoseTheFanGirl Me 2

  • fantastic film!

  • was almost*

  • Definitely. Fredric March had to be hospitalized after filming his last Hyde scene because the make-up was so extreme. He almost was permanently disfigured from making this movie. As the movie progressed he had to wear more make-up to symbolize Hyde becoming more of a monster.

  • @AlexanderMahan That's horrible! ;( He was really willing to give anything for his art wasn't he!?

  • @phanaticgren OMG!

  • @phanaticgren Apparently yes, and March really made it pay off. He deserved this Oscar.

  • @AlexanderMahan Poor Fredric

  • I agree. March is amazing, the makeup and transformations are incredible for 1931.

  • YEAH THE GOOD OLD DAYS!!
