My view, as a European who knows both countries, has family in both countries, is that in fact Canada is civilised, socialised and part of the mainstream of western culture. I never feel this in the states. America seems to me like a very rich third world country. And There is something distateful about it. Also sickening to me is to hear Canadians sucking up to America, playing along with americans when they rubbish Canada. Americans rubbish every country. Havent you noticed?

Although pot is not technically legal in Canada, we have VERY relaxed laws. Possession under an ounce are only fined around a 100 dollars, similar to a traffic violation. Nearly all first time offenders do not get a criminal record. Most Police around my town don't care about small amount of possession and will usually just confiscate it. As long as your not blowing smoke in peoples faces, smoking pot in your home is generally accepted.

1st Vancouver (by the sea, sportive city), 2nd Quebec (cultural, only fortified city in North America), 3rd Montreal (nightlife)... mais j'ai jamais été à Ottawa, Calgary ou Edmonton, ni Halifax. Et Toronto c'est moyen comme ville.

Francophone. Mais Québec est bien culturel. J'veux dire c'est plus un meting pot, moins de divisions que des cartiers italien, chinois ou haïtien. J'ai des amis d'Allemagne, de Chine, de Tunésie, du Maroc et d'Angleterre. Il faut peut-être juste chercher un peu plus. Comme par exemple, la semaine prochaine j'vais au Weihnachtsmark (le marché de noël allemand) du Vieux Québec avec mes amies allemandes. C'est sûr que c'est pas placardé partout, mais en cherchant, il y a de tout.

Ouias, Sherbrooke est diversifié, j'ai été voir un chum de gars pi j'ai ben aimé ça. Mais d'habitude j'aime pas les villes de plus 1 millions d'habitants, trop dense, trop compact. Aussi, Montreal avait un resto allemand "Le Berlin" mais ça fermé mais il en a un à Qc :) C'est vrai qu'il y a plus de Québécois francophones à Qc, d'une manière ca force les nouveaux arrivants à parler en francais. Mes amis étudiants étrangers étainent faché qu'on leur réponde tjr en anglais à Mtl

À Montréal, c'est quand même plus francophone que anglophone. Les anglos de l'ouest sont assez bilingues de manière générale, alors que les francophones le sont, mais un peu moins.
La grosse distinction à Montréal c'est le taux de pauvreté chez les deux cultures, les quartiers pauvres sont tous habités par 90% de francophones, et les quartiers riches sont peuplés de plus de 30% d'anglophones (Westmount, etc).
