Although I am a strong proponent of firefighter fitness, I am slightly disillusioned by this silly spectacle. Dont get me wrong. I am a big fan of getting any firefighter into physical fitness training, and perhaps good media coverage will do that at the Vancouver Police and Fire Games; but I have to say that this competition is just shy of ridiculous. You should fight fire in the gear you train in (more or less) So race in full PPE!
@sketchieninja Yea Kid... actually I do wear my gear on the treadmill and stair-climber. ALL my gear i expect to wear in a fire including my radio and hand tools.
I train for combat just like our solders do... full gear all the time, worst case scenario.
Train hard yourself and stay off the video games and maybe one day you'll be a real firefighter too!

I am pretty sure it is for a little bit of fun you know as well as physical fitness, do you goto the gym wearing bunker gear? I didn't think so.

Nobody runs or wears shorts or go without gloves on a fire scene.
