  • My daughter is a special needs child and was treated at Children's. She recieved excellent care while there. I am horrified by this story. God makes every child with a purpoose. He does not make mistakes. He is GOD! I would hate to be in these people's shoes on judgement day. My prayers are with Gabriel and his family.

  • And ppl say there are no death panels. Prayers for that sweet baby and his family.

  • Mom, get your baby outta there, take him someplace where they don`t play God!!!

  • This is intollerable!!!

  • I'm 13 and i have been to Children's Hospital before...there r some RUDE A** people there!!! I set in the waiting room for 4 HOURS!!! With @ of my toes cut opened and 1 was about to come OFF.They said " There was no ROOM @ all!" (keep in mind im not like i dislike Mexican people!! i have alot of friends thatt R) But EVERY Mexican that came in got a ROOM less then 10mins.! AND alot of other stuff but im not sayin but i HATE that HOSPITAL!!

  • I live in the East Tennessee area, and have been to ETCH on numerous occasions. One on which the hospital did not know what care to give my child, because they were not exactly sure what was wrong with her. We almost lost her several times, and ETCH NEVER GAVE UP ON MY CHILD!!! Thank the good LORD that did not have to happen and they were able to properly diagnose and treat her and she is now healthy. ETCH would never give up on any child, and would give the best care possible!!

  • We had the same problem with our son at Little Rock Childrens. We moved him to a local hospital closer to our home who gave him better care and didn't try to "play god". He recovered and 7 years later is still with us and in good health, although with cp. (He is not on gov't care in any way!!) I say MOVE him immediately mom!! Blessings!

  • This is difficult to assess this particular case at the moment, or whether there is truth here, none the less a response is in order.

In fact this does occur and happen in hospitals every day.

These tragic decisions are being made by qualified and competent medical staff every day in one hospital or another.

HOWEVER, - it is their motivation for making such a decision which is vital. If any decision made is purely down to funding or money, then it is murder.

  • If a child is murdered for reasons other than money, it's still murder.

  • That wasnt what I was dermining, maybe my words were unclear.

Certainly in a broader aspect if any child is murdered for reasons other than money it is murder.

What I was trying to say is that these decisions are made, in some cases the child, or even adult has severe mental or physical damage, which is beyond repair.

I guess I am going to have to go deeper to avoid being misunderstood here..

  • Sometimes children are born with terrible things wrong with them, or dreadful accidents occur and the only thing keeping them alive is a life support machine. Parents, Doctors have to make heartbreaking decisions to switch them off.

What I was trying to put across here is that if these decisions are not made on such a basis, but are made soley because of funding or money, then it is murder. I am relating this purely to the situation where life support and Intensive care is involved.

  • If a child is murdered for being disabled, it's still murder.

  • I must ask now the classification of disabled, does quality of life come into that, I know of people who have had and coped with children who have had the most profound physical and mental difficulties, they have a quality of life.

But does a child who will have to remain on a life support machine for the rest of his her life have a quality of life?..

Sometimes the most cruel of decisions have to be taken, ever lived with chronic epilepsy and physical disability?

  • Quality of life is for the beholder to determine -- not outsiders who are making judgment based upon their opinion.

  • Does this go for that which is created artificially also, it is a question that I have long struggled with.

If God is the keeper of life, which I believe in, then in bringing these life support machines to prevent death is not natural.

However, they save life, as do the paramedics who resucitate someone who has had a heart attack.

If there were none of these available, then thousands more people would die. Therefore, is not a right to live presumed, if that life is an artificial one?

  • I believe that we must treat accordingly, but we now can keep people alive, long after they were due to die on earth, through artificial means. someone then has to make a decision to allow death. But no decision should ever be made based on financial or budgeting, rather on the merit of the life being saved.

We no longer live in a simplistic world of when you die you die, hospital techniques have become miraculous and save thousands of lives every year which would not otherwise have lived...

  • they probably dont want to pay for the care and the parents cannot pay either, so killing is the care they will offer, its a sad society that kills its young it says alot about who runs things doesnt it?

  • The preview to Obama care. Best wishes to baby Gabriel and may God bless.

  • Jesus, cover this family and baby Gabriel! Work a miracle for them and show that You alone are greater than any man and their arbitrary decision!

In Jesus' Name, for Your glory I pray, AMEN.

:*( This really makes me sick... God help our nation!

  • I hope a major news outlet will pick this up.

  • Keep praying though because last I heard, it wasn't yet in writing!

  • According to ADF, the ethic's committee decided to continue care!

  • Can you tell me what the outcome is? Would love to know what you find out.

  • ADF update from another site: "UPDATE: AFTER ADF FILED ITS LAWSUIT, DOCTORS WITH THE EAST TENNESSEE CHILDRENS HOSPITAL CHANGED THEIR OPPOSITION TO ONGOING CARE FOR BABY GABRIEL, AND THE ETHICS PANEL FORMALLY AGREED NOT TO WITHDRAW HIS CARE.

  • The lawsuit will remain, until this agreement is in writing.

  • Please let us know how we can take action!! This must be stopped!! Who do we write, call??

  • Is the reason lack of insurance or funds? WHY is this happening?

  • This hospital's actions should be criminal. If the parents decided to withhold care on a viable child, the hospital would seek to have parent's rights terminated. Where does the Hippocratic Oath come in here to "Do No Harm"... Isn't killing and starving the same as harming?

  • You are right. You have to wonder about the truth of the story.

  • I'm not doubting the story at all. We saw this in the Terri Shaivo case and many others. I hope this mother can get her son out of this hospital and transferred to one that will provide him with appropriate care....soon.

  • Look at Baby Gabriel's eyes! Those eyes are full of love & life!
