  • Fantastic video! Did you keep rolling tape during the passage of the eye and then the other half of the storm? From the radar, the eye looks very small, probably only a few mile across, giving you a few minutes respite before all hell broke loose again!

  • I wonder how far that wind would throw someone.

  • i guess we'll seeing a lot more of these this decade

  • you should shot up to see tha blue sky between the gray clouds

  • Holy. Shit.

  • I wish I had gone to school for Meteorology. : I

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BABY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Titanium balls

  • @JeanAlexandre707 Well Thanks !!! haha

  • @UltimateChase Were you in a Chevy trail blazer? Did you weight or anchor down the vehicle? Or back up against a wall? what did you do to prevent the vehicle from blowing away?

  • Was his car ancored down or something with steel ropes??

  • Wow!!!!

  • 172mph "gust" recorded just 1 mile to your NE, I was about a mile and a half to your W in a hospital, which got destroyed. The reason I put gust in "", did you happen to read the FEMA report about the anemometer that recorded that 172mph wind? Interesting stuff.

  • OMG The sheer force that was just dished out! Incredible footage! Nature can chew your ass up and spit you out! Thanks for uploading this!

  • you know what makes me sick i remember about 10 years ago when i was outside playing with all my friends and you just dont see that anymore this video for instance no kids out playing??? "tut" what has this world come to...

  • Balls of steel, you have.

  • There is a gas station over there. I'm gonna get some gas for free.

  • i love how the car stays and the gasstation goes

  • this is cool!!! living in england we dont get this kind of weather!!! its fascinating to watch!!!!although i feel sorry for anyone suffering destruction. very brave!!

  • wow si crumbiling that gas station like a peace of paper

  • I wonder if i would of been carried away in the wind

  • @kozackie The average spreadeagle freefall speed of an average adult is 120 miles per hour. I also read that in winds higher than 160 miles per hour, a grown man laying on the ground will get slid and tumbled across the ground.

  • Wow! Gas is 1.88 - no way! hehe. Seriously though.. window down?! Crazy stuff.

  • OMG Those Gas Prices!!!!

  • He can hold a camera in 156 mph+ winds. He's the most interesting man in the world.

    -No, he's not. He's UltimateChase!

  • my friend you are simply crazy i'm from Cuba and i really know what a Category 5 is.Thank you so much, and don't stop.

  • You were anchored down by the size of your testicles.Thank you

  • @teedzy1 hahahaha....Thanks !

  • Comment removed

  • @teedzy1 Actually, if you look closely, Theiss and his crew were parked on the leeward side of the gas station's main building, so in fact, they were more than less shielded by the building from the full force of the hurricane's winds.

  • fuck you high gas prices!

  • UltimateChase you are the man. You are not stupid for doing this. Who cares what others might say. You have balls & it is science baby. I go to school for meteorology and I am counting down the days were I can join people like you. To take video relate it into saving lives. Building homes to withstand MOTHER NATURE.

  • @bradfordfields81 Thanks for the kind words !!! haha

  • @bradfordfields81 In all honesty though, this isn't for science. We haven't learned a single thing about typhoons, hurricanes or tornadoes in the last 30 years by people sitting in the middle of them with shitty cameras.

We already know everything there is to know about them from this position.

People like you actually going to school for meteorology, and scientists pushing the envelope are the real badasses, not random idiots who sit in their cars and post youtube videos.

  • Pretty much like sitting in your car during an EF3 tornado that goes on for 20 minutes. I'd love to experience this at least once in my life.

  • US is a dangerous place to live- the combination of power of ocean & wind is just too devastating

  • Your windows were open!?

  • WOW! That was insane

  • The Power of Nature is stronger than anything I've seen.

  • what kind of truck were u driving? Im buying that so i can survive 150 mph winds

  • @BIGBADSQUID You would need a TIV, or at least an army tank to survive 150+ mile per hour winds. Of course, the safest place to be in 150 mph winds is a concrete, or concrete block structure building, preferrably one reinforced with steel. Best bet if you want to film the storm would be one of those multi story public parking garages. Additionally, Mike Theiss was extremely lucky he didn't get hit by the storm surge at that Race Trac gas station, seeing it's very close proximity to the bay.

  • what were you inside of?

  • @BIGBADSQUID a tank xDD

  • Thanks Kevin9703 !! Please pass the word along. I'm trying to really get this Ultimate Chase YouTube channel cranking !! I have at least 30 more new videos getting ready to be posted soon !!!

  • @UltimateChase really??? you're struggling with this channel??

don;t worry.... its too awesome to remain unknown for long.. looking forward to the new vids

  • @UltimateChase I don't get how when you should the surrounding area after the eye wall such as telephone poles and billboard signs? how did they withstand such a strong forced wind?

  • QUE bueno !!

  • this IS the most amazing weather footage that i have ever witnesed. one can dodge a tornadoe, but when you are in the hurricane....you better fucking hang on. my goodness, i am left stunned, and in awe. great job guy's!

  • im surprised that the whole station just didnt collapse completely

  • The gas station just got OWNED!

  • Gives me chills. Crazy power.

  • poor gas station :( All the metal on it was just reduced to scrap metal in a matter of minutes.

  • 3:00 - 3:30 DAM!!! thats fucking awesome!

  • INCREDIBLY!

  • If you were in the eye does that mean the strong winds returned shortly after?

  • Natural disasters fascinate me.

  • I WANT YOUR JOBBBB!!!!!

  • lucky you servived!!! ;)

  • that has to be the best most extreme footage of a hurricane ever shot. props to you.

  • if only this cud happen to my high skool :)

  • Amazing. The sound of that wind is about enough to give you chills. Some very brave guys in that car.

  • lol 1.89 for gas

  • Anyone catch how cheap the gas was? Lol, that would be nice.

  • I hear as the storm moves through the wind will be in the opposite direction????

  • @snowmchristv Yep when the eye has passed over the winds then travel in the opposite direction to before, rather the same as water going down a plughole, the wind and torrential rain spirals around the hurricanes centre

  • we should drol bombs in the the mother hole could help

  • Mike, u are one brave man...nice vid

  • thats INSAANE

  • just imagine the winds speed during Cyclone Olivia in 1996 was recorded at 253 mph

  • u haz a death wish

  • makes you wonder what did the native americans do when something like this happened... i wonder if they had advance warning of some kind..

  • Omg those gas prices LMFAO, but I remember this, the bastard was a Cat 2 when it hit us in Kissimmee and still fucked us up.

  • mate how the fuck are you in a car!!!!? what are you parked behind/chained to?

  • At 3:00 onward ... shit! O_O

  • OMG!!! Why would u be out in a cat. 4 hurricane, that's insane!!!! But great footage though.

  • If you are already in the eye of the hurricane wall, does that mean that you're gonna have to pass through the other side of the eyewall? Gosh! It scares the hair out of me!

  • followed the link and i loved the detailed story of the chase....

at 2:32 i thought that that was the excitement... then i remembered glancing the information of this vid... and the mention of 3:06..

this vid is epic... its as simple as that. good work.

hope you manage to get some of Katia when she appears....and i'm betting she will by morning (in 5-8 hrs) i'm betting she'll be major as well.

  • Holy hell.. I need to find the same people who mounted that satellite dish on that gas station to mount on my house!! lol

  • i would shit myself i were u u sir got some balls

  • the gas station put up a good fight

  • holy shit!

  • Why are hurricanes like women?

They come in wet and wild and then after they steal your car and house.

  • Also very intense how at 4:06, the wind goes from insane to moderately scary. This was the first hurricane I'd ever been in and in Orlando, especially with it being at night, the eyewall was not so clear cut. I remember going outside when my husband and friend told me we were in the eye and it really didn't start up again very strong when it passed. Don't know if the eye broke up or something, but for us, it was pretty much over at that point.

  • I lived in Orlando when Charley came through and I am so grateful that I wasn't where you were. Don't think I'd be brave enough to stand that! Terrifying! And LOL at the $1.80 a gallon for gas. I was thinking how nice it would be for gas to be that price again. Back then, I was complaining that it was too expensive.

  • Amazing video. It's very hard to express to someone who hasn't experienced what type of primal fear is released when the wind starts to blow above 100 mph in hurricane. It does something to you that never quite leaves.

  • Wow

  • my parents were stuck in a hurricane (category 4, st.luis) in st.maarten island for their honeymoon and they have video of it!!!

  • You're gnarly!

  • Comment removed

  • death

  • HOLY FUCKIN SHITTTTTTTTTTT

    INSANEE

  • The storm that was supposed to hit Tampa. I almost wet myself when it was upgraded to cat. 4 that morning. They evacuated three levels and most went to Orlando.....ooops! Couldn't believe it when he turned at the last minute.

  • how do you walk around with those big massive balls of steel you have?

  • this is why you should evacuate. i didn't, but i'm not realy scared cause the winds of irene have dramacally calmed down.

  • Damn ! you are one crazy brave man. i wouldve been hidding under my damn bed. wow good video though

  • I remember being at home in daytona beach fl, when charley hit us. A tornado spawned right near my house and knocked down a huge oak tree ontop of my moms car. Its was crazy, and everyone is so scared of this "hurricane" Irene. PSH if theyre so scared of irene take a look at this video of a truely scary hurricane charley!

  • What do you mean by mini-swirl? Can you explain that it seems real interesting.

  • Wow. THis is an amazing video! You were set up just right not to get blown away or hit by a storm surge. I would like to see this in an omni max theater with surround sound.

  • dat is amaazinggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

  • dude that shit is nuts!

  • Your fucking annoying wiping that camera. Shits gonna get wet, it's annoying seeing you wipe that shit more than twice. Let it be ya chink

  • inside the eye of a hurricane*

  • Wow I've never seen a video of a transition to inside. That was incredible how fast it changed.

  • you couldve easily died

  • I'm starting to think humans weren't meant to live in Florida.

  • damn @ 3:00.

  • Irene has just been updated it is actually cat 3

  • Wow!

  • DAMN NATURE, YOU DOWNRIGHT TERRIFYING!

  • Hurricane Charley was the worst hurricane I've been through and I live in central Florida. It was hard to sleep that night, all that wind...nice video man.

  • Absolutley incredible video ! Thanks UltimateChase ! I am still trying to figure how it didn't toss your your car like a matchbox car !!!

  • Mmmmm, $1.89 for gas.

  • @svt11111

    same thing i was thinking!!!

  • Irene is not going to be anything like this! Shes only going to be a cat 2 so dont worry... Its not gonna pack a punch like that

  • is

  • what state of this?

  • chuck norris sneezed

  • lol

  • holy sh*t

  • Hurricane Irene Bring itttt!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thumbs up if you're here because of Irene :)

  • @airman665544 its coming to me tonight!!!!

  • @airman665544 irene was a shitty cat. 1. shitty drainage system or not, upper east coasters were being a bunch of wusses.

  • @ejrod0 You must be a real idiot to say that upper east coasters are wusses. If you knew any better you would know that the majority of us made fun of the forecasters who hyped things up. Irene was no big deal. The mayor did it as a practice drill in the case of a real emergency. Did you forget what happened on Sept 11, 2001? Yeah, we are real wusses, especially those of us who lived 2 miles away from a warzone. Come up and work like a New Yorker-trust me YOU would be the wuss LMAO!!

  • @grkqt79 9/11 has nothing to do with this. There was no foreseeing 9/11, so it's uncomparable to a hurricane. My family is from New Jersey / New York. Most of them still live there and were freaking out about it. There were only a hand full that realized the hurricane was overhyped.

  • @ejrod0 Well that's what the media does-freak people out, make them go to supermarkets, Home Depot, to stock up. People who panicked did so bc that is all you saw on all tv channels for 3 days. It does not mean they are wusses. What about NYorkers who move to Fla? IF I am not mistaken, there are many transplanted northerners down south-are they wusses too?. BTW, there was damage on Long Island-flooding, tons of trees down, same in Jersey, same in New England.

  • @grkqt79 my comment wasnt saying that someone is a wuss BECAUSE theyre from the upper east coast, my comment was just saying that they're wusses for overreacting to the storm. i dont see why we're on opposing sides here.

  • @ejrod0 I fully get that lol, but what's the reason people overreacted? They are being told that a cat 1, which may or may not stregnthen over the Atlantic (once it leaves N.C. and goes over water again), will hit the tri-state area. August was a very rainy month up here. The news channels would repeat over and over how we could have Battery Park under water, etc. We are supposed to trust these people yet have common sense. still doesn't make people "wusses."

  • @ejrod0 Also, my aunt, uncle, and cousins live in Ft. Myers, my other aunt in Naples. Funny thing is they were just as freaked out for us as some of the upper east coasters. People may have freaked out, others were excited. It came, some people had problems and still have problems till today, it passed, and most people said, "big deal." LOL This is from talking to all friends, family members, and people at work. Not one person I know reacted they way you are saying.

  • @grkqt79 Going through an event isn't what makes someone brave, it's how they react to it and move past it. You dont seem to have done the latter if you're gonna bring it up because of a youtube comment about a hurricane.

  • @ejrod0 Oh, and yes, people have the right to panic if they are forecasting even a WEAK cat 1 storm. IT just didn't show up that way-that's nobody's fault. Meteorology has a long way to go in terms of predicting the strength of hurricanes. They made it seem like some ferocious storm was coming. Those that did evacuate did the right thing. Long Beach, L.I. alone had storm surge about 3 blocks inland.

  • @grkqt79 this is a natural disaster not some man made terror plot.

  • @airman665544 hurricane irene was nothing by the time it hit the u.s yall were lucky, we here in texas and in florida have gotten way stronger scarier hurricanes, yall got lucky it wasn't stronger when it hit.

  • Dont F*ck with mother nature!!!

(P.S. u came here to watch huricane comin to NY and passed Miami!)

  • NY will prevail

  • @Julienoway lol wow This is gonna b one badass storm i gtg do my erands b4 this shit hits my on sunday idk y but i cnt wait to c this XD

  • @WarMachineGX lol, it's an adrenaline rush. ;D Trust me. I love storms and bad weather. I actually get quite a lot of inspiration to draw when it rains and stuff. XD sadly Cali doesn't get stuff like this. Maybe once in a blue moon, haha. Be safe. :D and have a camera ready. lol.

  • 1:05 i omg its pulling the pump off holy shit

  • i know that gas station

  • OMG. im only 11 and this is gonna happen this weekend!!! im almost crying!!!!

  • @Misheardables Don't worry! Just stay indoors, and make sure your family is safe as well. :) So far, I've heard that Hurricane Irene may reach category 4, but not 5. Even still, just don't go out, and make sure your family is prepared. I live in California, and I'll probably never experience anything like this.

  • @JulieNoWay ok, thanks! :)

  • @Misheardables dont worried kid if your lucky you wont die yay!!!

  • Cannot wait, this is what we have on tap this weekend!!!!

  • Chuck Norris sneezed.

  • This guy has balls.

  • why in the hell are you in that and why did you open the window

  • Now you'll all see nature wants us to stop using fuels and it will be gone, in the next 20 years,

Stuff like gas will be gone, so that means we need to get other energy from anywhere, like the sun has, that kind of energy or water maybe

l would shit myself lf l were in that car

    weren't you guys scared?'

because you said on the other way behind the petrolstation was a car that was going upside down

l love to see storms, but, l don't want anyone to get hurt

    nature is beautiful.

  • I've been out in a cat 1,2,3,4 but never a cat 5. Don't wish to have a cat 5 hit my state

  • bro! close the windows!

  • wow. i cant believe there was a gas station haha. then its gone in 5 minutes

  • Oh my God!!!!!! Look at those gas prices!!!!!!

  • I was there......3 miles down the road. It sounded like a train running over the roof. Completey whited out. I would like to know the exact time that the 155 wind happend...if you could tell me poster it would be great. Grew up in this town and bought gas at this station many times. If you go there now you can still see that trees in the town are only 30 feet high.....nothing higher. But the racetrack gas station is completely redone......looks like nothing happened.

  • Do you have second half of video? After the eyewall?

  • @FAST70442 Yes, But I was taking shelter in a small bathroom of an shop that was 75% destroyed. I shot some video but was mostly trying to stay alive !

  • lllooolll wat a power O

  • UltimateChase Damn man it takes a lot of guts to be there, NICE !! Good Work

  • The most amazing part of that video was at 5:27.......... gas at $1.80 a gallon

  • @trdtacoma02

And Unemployment was at 3%. Kind of makes you miss them days huh?

  • @trdtacoma02 yep that was amazing

  • @trdtacoma02 yea bring that back!!!

  • Awesome!

  • I was just beginning my sophomore year at Port Charlotte high when Charley hit. I actually lived a few streets from the county line of Charlotte and Sarasota (I used to live in North Port) and the only damage we sustained was losing an old 16 ft satelite dish and our fence. We also never got completely in the eye wall, so we just had continuous winds the whole time. My classmates didn't fair as well damage-wise, seeing as most of them lived closer to the harbor.

  • haha watch out for the gust's, being in the rain feels like being hit by walls of pebbles, being born and raised in Daytona I LOVE IT HAHA

  • Man, you got balls.

  • that gas station got raped

  • this deserves like an award or something.

  • holy cow... u MEAN HOLY SHIT

  • Reminds me of 1970 Hurricane Celia in Corpus Christi Texas.

Airport wind gauge broke at 165mph.

Was staying at my aunts home near the middle of town and I remember the metal roofed corrugated building diagonal from us being peeled a sheet of metal at a time. A booming sound every time it flew away. Never forget that sound!!!

Building finally keeled over when roof was gone.

I never want to go thru a hurricane with winds over 150mph again!!!!

    Nerves of steel you had!!!!!

  • @FAST70442 Its funny you say this....I have studied Celia and compare it to Charley in many ways including being a small and compact storm. I have heard other accounts of this booming sound !! I wish there was more video and documentation from Celia !
