the locks on laptops are actually kensington the little holes, 99% of laptops have them, my super old ibm has on, my compaq has one, my brand new hp (today) has one, my toshiba has one, dads hp, dell both have them, his gfs dell has one. ive never seen a laptop without that little lock hole. now personally i have a kensington that i knew the code but somehow it got messed up so i just cut it with my leatherman, only took maybe 30 seconds (it was harder than it though)
I use a physical lock which deters would-be bad guys. The Kensington locks are terrible, partly because they don't provide much attachment; partly because they are so hard to engage in the little slot that most people just stop using them. I use one that has a glue-on fastener and snaps into the larger, more durable receptacle. It is easy and works. There are a few versions called "Snap-Its".
WARNING: Lojack, allegedly, might compromise the security of your laptop. Kensington locks, nowadays, are so easy to compromise. $50 bucks for nothing, wow. I'd rather go with Lo/Jack, get the motherf**ker to believe he gets away with it and throw him a nice sense of surprise in the end :)
i use a usb key connected to a 1 inch cable. once the usb is removed an alarm goes off and my private army shoots them unless they disable the alarm.
