The petty bickering about nationhood and 'ownership' of this genius is amusing. If only people would put more thought into the symbolism and the story they might have something interesting to say. I for one am going to have to watch this a few more times and think pretty hard about what is being portyayed before offering any opinions. That said, the Russians, many Jewish, have always made fascinating animated films, with a magical content unmatched by shallow Hollywood.
he was polish. he has polish name, he was speaking polish and his mind was polish. read his memoirs to check it. his films were RUSSIAN thou. or french of course, like this one. today his biography is a heritage of LITHUANIA, because he lived in the land which is today lithuania. it was a part of poland but ethinically its lithuania. its really mixed up but if you think twice youll understand.
polish guy from lithuanian territories making russian films.
His parents were Polish; he was born in Moscow; he lived in what is now Lithuania, which was Russian at that time; and he worked in both Russia and France (where he lived for many years). It is also worth remembering that before the partition Lithuania was part of Poland (earlier part of the PolishLithuanian Commonwealth).
Why do you Russians always trying to steal what is not at yours? :DD If this genius works for your animation "factories", this does not mean that he is russian. He is lithuanian! ;)
Brilliant, absolutely spectacular.
