@Hickok45 did you end up keeping this gun? or getting it in .40 cal? Just wondering if you spent any time carrying it, or shooting it in the .40, and if it lived up to your expectations (in either caliber). =]
I like your videos. I have to comment on this one. That German ambi mag release was found on the Walther P99 first. Try using your trigger finger on it. That is much easier to use that way and it does not alter your grip in any way.
Thank you for the PPS review. I've been a fan of your videos for some time. I bought a new Walther PPS one week ago. They have lowered the price on them and they now come with two magazines standard. Keep up the great work.
@Deltamike23 From handling both, trying to conceal both, the PPS you lose 1 round over a P239 (though both are single-stack), but you gain IMMENSE concealability. Also, the PPS shares the same bore-axis as the PPK, and it's literally millimeters off from it's size. The P239, while a smooth shooting and a very pretty pistol, is about the same width as a G19, which has double the capacity. Mag prices are the same between both, PPS being slightly more expensive. Personal choice! :)
i bought a .40 cal PPS after watching this vid and have 100 rounds through it with no problems great pistol and great review works great with a desantis pocket holster keep doin what your doin hickok

Thanks for the video Hickock. I would never have bought one of these without user reviews like yours.I tried one in .40 and loved it for CC purposes. The trigger breaks in nicely over time too.The glitchy trigger and light weight don't make it ideal for my range use but I have other guns for that.
@kronichsmoker42, I believe the fact that you even HAVE a probation officer tells us where the I.Q. issues are, not to mention the fact that you reveal it on the Internet. :-)
@hickok45 i really dont give a fuck guy. i have a probation because my friends choose to carry drugs on them when were leaving my college campus. it's not my fault i dont want to snitch on anyone.
@kronichsmoker42 It's your fault for associating with drug users. Keep working towards that internal locus of control. You'll be much happier in life.
Its funny how every review of this gun complains about the mag release, but me being a Walther and HK guy I generally complain about other mag releases. I've got 10+ yrs using the finger gaurd mag release. Glocks sucks! Also I think most people try to use their thumb where as I use my trigger finger its easier for me that way to go from the trigger to mag release. also youtube needs an edit button for comments
@pastubbs Yes its like anything. The more you practice with it the more comfortable you become. So making a "i like or dont like" statement about a weapon you dont use regularly has to be taken with a grain of salt. I personally have never used the PPS but I am thinking about buying one on Walthers rep alone.
Thanks for another great review, and for showing the PPS in the Com-Tac: you just sold me on that holster for my .40 model. It's been tough to find a holster that takes advantage of the slimness of the PPS, looks like this product has exactly what I was looking for.
I enjoy your videos. Have a Glock 17, but looking for an EDC and was thinking Wather PPS 9mm for size, dependability, and accuracy. I would also get a Milt Sparks holster. Thoughts?
Walther p99 AS I am a no cocked and chambered person, and searching many guns, I happened upon a Walther P99AS compact, small guns are what I like also. It has a decocker, that is chambered one can decock it and fire double action, and single action. As I researched S&W 3913 and others 6906 etc. I found a number that were double action chambered and single action second shot. I also have a Walther P22 its D/A S/A hammer, safety and whatever. Also have Beretta PX4 sub D/A S/A Luv it. Join NRA.
I've carried the PPS for about a year now, and I love it. Whenever possible, I'll carry the H&K P30, but for a weapon that you forget you're carrying, you can't beat the PPS. It shoots like a laser and has never jammed. I've probably put 1000 rounds through it. Love this gun.
Seriously, I have long wondered if you use "regular" soda on the range, and whether all that sugar makes everything sticky and attracts bees and whatnot.
I bought a PPS in .40 caliber this afternoon. I'd planned to pick up a Glock 27 (I have a G23 and love it), but buying pistols on your own terms as a civilian in NYC is often nearly impossible. The city appears to be sold out of the G27 at the moment. Took a look at the PPS and really loved the hand feel and the very Glock-like design. The mag release will take some getting used to, I suppose. As will the price of magazines - Yikes! Great vid, as always.
You freaking rock! My sexy wife is impressed with your shooting but that is where it has to end;o) I too look forward to seeing your demo of the PX4 9mm and that little stinker S&W Bodyguard semiauto. Weown the px4 but are interested in getting the bodyguard--until we saw this video. Shit that was great fun to watch. Next time play a tune with the various targets like Jingle bells or something.
nice shooting brother....can you tell me about the trigger pull on that PPS. What is the weight and how much take up does the trigger have? It is a double action only right?
Great review! I will be picking up a Walther PPS in the .40 S & W soon from a local dealer. I ordered a "The Answer" holster from Tucker Gun Leather which is similar to the holster you have except it will be leather lined within the kydex part.
Good vids , but I never forgive and forgot DRESDEN, dont cry about osamas victims, he killed 3000, you killed 25000, fuck your nation, a christian Austrian!
I'm on the smaller side and have a PPS in .40. The recoil is more than manageable, not painful at ALL. The only thing I've noticed is that the bottom of the trigger guard (edge of the mag release) pops up and hits the underside of my trigger finger on each shot. The day after shooting a couple hundred rounds, you have a sore spot there. Not bad, but noticeable. It will mis-feed if limp wristed. Love the gun overall.
Amazing pistol. I have one of these in a (.40 caliber) and it is definatley one of my favorites. For those asking, the recoil is up there, but it is certainly manageable, especially if your a bigger fella. Thanks again Greg.
Hello Hickock, My first handgun I recently acquired is the Walther P99 AS .40. I chose it for the ergonomics it just feels great in the hand and the other is the Walthers reputation. So far the weapon has been flawless with no malfunction and to say the least I need to do more practicing with it. My request is that maybe one of these days you could maybe get your hands on one and do a review and video of the Walther P99. I would greatly appreciate your opinion about this particular firearm.
I've had mine(9mm) for 2+ years and I just love it. It goes everywhere with me and it shoots sweet. Great review. Good to see other folks warming up to it. Thanks
Hey Hickok, You control recoil and muzzle flip better than anyone I've seen. Can you explain your grip and how you keep your pistols from jumping so much when you fire? Thanks!
Someone may have mentioned this already, and if so then I apologize. I've got a Walther P99 and just wanted to share. I've found with the mag release on these guns it's actually easier to drop the mag using my trigger finger on the weak side (I'm right handed) it's kind of strange at first, but doesn't take long to get used too, and actually helps me keep a good shooting grip on the pistol. Just something you might want to try out
@jamangus , No, it came that way. Actually, I would have rather had black, I think, but this was the one the shop had, and the price was reasonable. Don't think I've seen another like it, now that you mention it.
This guy is fricken Awesome! Hickok, if I didn't already love firearms, after watching these vids I definetly would. Makes me wish I was American too, Canada is way to strict...sigh
im sorry, but my weapons training, and i have been told to never carry around a cocked weapon, and to cock it before use. anyway, im from the UK so our laws are a bit stupid over here. so dont go calling someone a dumbass without checking first, would a bumbass have noticed somthing such as him cocking the wapon in the first place? probarbly not.
no, i shall tell you who is a tard, someone who can't understand The Queens English, and who cant take a joke. we shall see who is laughing when round goes off in someones pokect!
@nazrex180 You won't need more than 6-8 rounds. If you do, bring another mag. The weight and the thinness really make it more comfortable to use and carry. I'd go 9mm over 40 and use +P loads. Defensive 9mm is every bit as good as a 40. If you're set on a Glock, go for the 36.
I have many guns of all types. I had allways wanted a walther p-22 a few years ago my wife bought me one and have to say it is the most relliabel fun gun I have ever owend
I've got the G27 and the PPS in .40 and yes they can be a bit "snappy". I tend to think that the PPS is just a bit more snappy than the glock, but that might just be me imagining things.
Great video! I just picked up a Walther P22 for plinking at a great price. Oddly enough it will only shoot CCI mini mags reliably, everything else gets double feeds for some reason. Fun little gun once I figured that out.
One question, watching you shoot on this video i looks like you are left eye dominant, am I correct? I have that issue. I am left handed but way more comfortable shooting right. Any advice?
Great video. Nice to see you enjoy the PPS. Looks like it shoots well. A friend of mine just bought one, so I am finally going to be able to try one out. Now I am going to have to decide between a 9mm or .40. I hear more issues with the .40 though, but you can't believe everything you read either.
dude all your videos rock big time. I love watching them, wish i could have the pleasure of being able to own and shoot these pistols, or even at least shoot pistols, im in the U.K and there is a pistol ban here since the mid 90's .
@GoldenRing1989 The german word for police is polizei and the german word for pistol is pistole. I haven't really figured out the German word for slim but it probably starts with an S.
I've had 4000 Zero bullets on backorder from Shooter's Connection for quite some time. Now I know where they all went... downrange at the Hickok Compound.
Hickok I love your stuff. Question...are there any guns you don't like? It seems like you can shoot just about anything once you get used to it but I was just wondering if there is anything you just don't like
Honestly one of your best videos IMO for comparison between similar guns! Thank you for being so thorough with your side by sides and thank you John for the nice camera angles. The only gun I wish you would have brought back out to compare would have been the M&P9c but it's probably a lot like the Glock 26 eh? I'm trying to decide on the right small frame 9mm to purchase. Thanks Hickok and John.
@ParabolicBox Most semi-auto pistol's slide look very similar. its what you cannot see it was makes the difference. Like the single action or dual action firing assembly, safety system all that will vary but look the same brand to brand.
my local gunshop has one of these thats been sitting there for awhile i dont know why.because it looks like a winner i may have to be the one to pick it up
Great video. I own one in 40 and use it as my regular CCW. It does have a little bite in the 40. With you being such a Glock fan, I thought you would like it. Thanks for doing the video. I only wish I could shoot it was well as you
what would you guys recommend as a starter firearm? Say $400 max, preferably compact not like a usp or 1911. also something quite reliable with fairly cheap ammo, i was thinking a G19?
Great point about the weight with a slimmer gun, you got to love glock. So I've called glock and asked but got no real response but when will glock come out with a single stacked 9mm? Have you heard anything?
Thanks for doing a review of the PPS! This was my first handgun, I'm glad to see that it has gotten the Hickok seal of approval. Mine has been flawless!
@Taquin1977, I think I'm in the "Twilight Zone," because I find myself wanting to ask you that "snappy" question that we hear all the time about the G27. Is it snappy? Since it weighs the same as the Subcompact Glocks, I'm assuming it "snaps" about the same in .40 as the G27?
@hickok45 I honestly, the only other handguns I have shot are two Colt Phythons .357, so I don't have much to compare it to. I would agree with you that considering they are approx the same weights as the Glocks, the recoil would be the same.
With that said, I find the recoil very managable. I even have had several women shoot mine and seem to love it. Everybody talks about the thinness of the slide, but I think the thin handle is the key. The women
@Taquin1977 seem to love the thin handle because they can wrap their fingers around it completely and really hang on to it.
For me, I find the thin handle easier to conceal. Thinner handle pokes the shirt out less if you bend over or sit down. I don't have to wear thick sweat shirts to conceal.
Getting off topic....
Yes, it is "snappy" but very recoverable and recovery is fast. You know you have a .40 in your hands.
Great video. I got the PPS in 9mm. I originally wanted the PPS in .40 but was concerned about recoil along with some reports of poor reliability when it first came out.
I'm about ready to buy a .40 just because I love my 9mm so much but want something with a slightly larger caliber. It's a pleasant to shoot and pleasant to carry, so you get the best of both worlds (unlike my LCP which is great to carry but a pain to shoot).
what brand of grip strips are those?

Hey Hickok, You control recoil and muzzle flip better than anyone I've seen. Can you explain your grip and how you keep your pistols from jumping so much when you fire? Thanks!
Astrovideo 11 months ago
Someone may have mentioned this already, and if so then I apologize. I've got a Walther P99 and just wanted to share. I've found with the mag release on these guns it's actually easier to drop the mag using my trigger finger on the weak side (I'm right handed) it's kind of strange at first, but doesn't take long to get used too, and actually helps me keep a good shooting grip on the pistol. Just something you might want to try out

I carry a Walther PK380 for CCW, and just to and from the car; very light, 8 rounds, with the right placement, it's perfect. IMO ofcourse.

Hickok, did you have this PPS coated? green makes it 'uglier'. i like it.
jamangus 11 months ago 3
@jamangus , No, it came that way. Actually, I would have rather had black, I think, but this was the one the shop had, and the price was reasonable. Don't think I've seen another like it, now that you mention it.

@hickok45 I just picked up a PPS 9mm in OD green from the gun show in Raleigh, NC. Love this gun, thanks for the video!

I had allways wanted a walther p-22 a few years ago my wife bought me one and have to say it is the most relliabel fun gun I have ever owend
mrtiedied 11 months ago
I've got the G27 and the PPS in .40 and yes they can be a bit "snappy". I tend to think that the PPS is just a bit more snappy than the glock, but that might just be me imagining things.

Great video! I just picked up a Walther P22 for plinking at a great price. Oddly enough it will only shoot CCI mini mags reliably, everything else gets double feeds for some reason. Fun little gun once I figured that out.
One question, watching you shoot on this video i looks like you are left eye dominant, am I correct? I have that issue. I am left handed but way more comfortable shooting right. Any advice?
Guitarmike 11 months ago
Great video. Nice to see you enjoy the PPS. Looks like it shoots well. A friend of mine just bought one, so I am finally going to be able to try one out. Now I am going to have to decide between a 9mm or .40. I hear more issues with the .40 though, but you can't believe everything you read either.
archie8323 11 months ago
Since you prefer small guns and have an affinity for .45ACP, do you like the Glock 36? Oustanding videos by the way.
RagnarsHeir 11 months ago
My father in law picked up a PPS a few months ago and loves it. It shoots well but the trigger isn't quite up my alley for a pistol that cost $600.
Springr1911 11 months ago
Glock- ultimate gun!? Have you tried a walther P99? Imagine if an HK and a Glock had a baby, you'd get yourself a P99.
I'm actually stearing away from the PPS because it looks too much like a glock and I don't feel safe with a pistol on SA in my pocket, but that's me.

1StepTooFar 11 months ago
The innards of the PPS's trigger group look uncannily like a Glock's. Is that the case for the XD and M&P, too, or is it just this?
ParabolicBox 11 months ago
@ParabolicBox Most semi-auto pistol's slide look very similar. its what you cannot see it was makes the difference. Like the single action or dual action firing assembly, safety system all that will vary but look the same brand to brand.

what would you guys recommend as a starter firearm? Say $400 max, preferably compact not like a usp or 1911. also something quite reliable with fairly cheap ammo, i was thinking a G19?

frodo70444 11 months ago
Great point about the weight with a slimmer gun, you got to love glock. So I've called glock and asked but got no real response but when will glock come out with a single stacked 9mm? Have you heard anything?
Doc6mm 11 months ago
The PPS was first gun I ever purchased. Love it!

yes we (most of us) can carry a G 20 for those who cannot they make the G 29......glock there is no substitute.

Have to say where the Walther really shines is its thickness. Very easy to conceal regardless of the shooters build.

Carry the PPS in .40 myself. Love it.
Taquin1977 11 months ago
@Taquin1977, I think I'm in the "Twilight Zone," because I find myself wanting to ask you that "snappy" question that we hear all the time about the G27. Is it snappy? Since it weighs the same as the Subcompact Glocks, I'm assuming it "snaps" about the same in .40 as the G27?
hickok45 11 months ago
@hickok45 I honestly, the only other handguns I have shot are two Colt Phythons .357, so I don't have much to compare it to. I would agree with you that considering they are approx the same weights as the Glocks, the recoil would be the same.
With that said, I find the recoil very managable. I even have had several women shoot mine and seem to love it. Everybody talks about the thinness of the slide, but I think the thin handle is the key. The women

Taquin1977 11 months ago
@Taquin1977 seem to love the thin handle because they can wrap their fingers around it completely and really hang on to it.
For me, I find the thin handle easier to conceal. Thinner handle pokes the shirt out less if you bend over or sit down. I don't have to wear thick sweat shirts to conceal.
Getting off topic....
Yes, it is "snappy" but very recoverable and recovery is fast. You know you have a .40 in your hands.
Taquin1977 11 months ago
@hickok45 It snaps a bit more,but I think it's my grip.
It's is too thin IMHO.(I have a big hands.)
