Early semi-automatic rifles were considered the weapons of cowardly assassins by the soldiers of the Napoleonic wars and now we have cruise missiles and stealth bombers. Most warriors in history might consider our weapons cowardly. War has definitely changed no doubt. But it takes more than cowards to assault machine gun nests up a beach.
@mechanussunrise Actually they didn't have semi-auto rifles in the napoleonic era, what they did have was long range (300-400/500 yards effective range) rifles although in the the 1840's the prussians developed the Zündnadelgewehr or the Needle fire rifle.

it took me 3 months 2 take over the world i was playing with the julius family so i took western eourope and parts of eastern but focusd on the west then i moved through spain 2 africa took africa then made my way through aisa and back up 3 months of bribes, straegic manouvering, making trade agreaments and alliacnes then breaking em god i luv this series number 1 strategy game in the world!

I somehow really enjoyed how you could take a tactic map view of your city whenever you wanted. It somehow combined the turn strategy with a real time strategy. I'm really missing this simple aspect in Medieval... ( I wont even mention what I'm missing in Empires)

Hopefully not, the style of warfare after the era Empire: TW covers changed so drastically I myself think a more modern time than that would suck, to say the least, in a Total War game.
Just letting them perfect the games in gameplay, as well as visual and audio appeal, in the time periods they have covered works for me. (800 BC - 1800 AD, even though I never found Empire appealing, the Imperial Age don't interest me much)
Well I've got it on the HDD but havn't played it yet, and what I'm talking about is the barbarian invasion, apparently pretty much Rome-TW 2 I'm told. But for an actual Rome-TW 2...I say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", PC gamer 95% score, I still havn't cleared it due to various reasons (Reformating. New cmptr etc) and Activision & creative assembly may have made the mistake of actually making a game so good that gamers won't look passed it...? Graphics still brill.
One of the best things about this game is the multiplayer in my opinion. The CPU has set difficulties and strategies. Against other people you never know what you'll ecounter.
Classic game! Britons, Gauls and the Germanians have always been my favorites; although Greece got funnier to play with the Europa Barbarorum mod. Medieval 2 was awesome too, I agree that so far only Empire has dissapointed me. It was so boring when everyone had the same units, just muskets muskets muskets. No real challenge just lining up your soldiers and fire away until one unit is left standing.
Both really are amazing games. The soundtrack (especially in Kingdoms) are outstanding. Gameplay and campaign are also brilliant (Not so much Ai)
Empire though, awful awful soundtrack (None of the songs are memorable), gameplay is a bit slow and stiff, only Naval combat that has any 'thrill' towards it.
Too bad it's almost the same time era as Empire. The combat is a lot more epic with meele weapons, not just standing in a straight line shooting a each other.
Yeah, practically a few years after where Empire left off. It's a shame it's musket + bayonet too, I would much prefer they went back to melee weapons (Imagine the hand to hand animations with the sword and shield, it would be awesome)
I fear CA is going down a dark path. If they're not carful they're going to lose what made them so very different to other game companies.
Phalanx was the shit. Using companions and royal pikemen. That was REAL tactics, rather than blasting people with led..
I wish they would go back and make Roman Total war again and add naval battles and some things they've made in the other games but still keep the old Rome look. The other ones Idk just don't really have the feeling RTW has.
Because Romans, and Greeks and all that lot look cool, whereas everyone medieval looks pretty dull. Grey chainmail everywhere, maybe a coloured jacket over it. BORING.
Rome was the best period in human history, but the greek soldiers are 10times cooler then roman legionairs... Thats because I ahve a weakness for phalanx! :D and their helmets.... damn!
Yeah I always liked the Corinthian style ones that covered the face, especially the Spartan Royal Guards from the Extended Greek Mod. That had some really cool units.

Fantastic soundtrack, brings back all the memories of RTW....you can virtually feel the times of Scipio Africanus, Hannibal, Caesar and Marc Anton come to life...one of the greatest periods in human history.
I agree, but I think a naval-combat DLC or some other DLC to make the current one greater could be just as good. besides, as technology gets better, older games like Rome Total War become easier to play with large numbers :D

out of all the mods ive played for this game.. (DONT GET ME WRONG out of all the total war games.. ROME is still the best) ive always wondered why do generals not carry shields... "oooh look at me i lead an army in the ancient world but i dont have to carry a shield because i dont die.." yaaa lol right

@FreakyShow95 I think it sucks too, actually. It takes way too long to end turns, and I hate guns. People have different tastes, mate. I love Rome above all else, even the Lord of the Rings Mod for Medieval II.

your right :P gunpowdertactics are not interesting.. in fact the battles in etw arent at all about tactics like rtw was, but more bout who has the better army- and all factions are fucking nearly equal omg.. in rtw there waere romans, barbars of all different kind different phallanx-factions easterns an so on!!! any faction had its own face- and was diffrent to play. give us a good rtw II instead of another game where evertyone are just shooting eachother down!!!

Yes, the game has better atmosphere then Medieval 2 in my opinion, the stupid AI is the main reason why i dont play this game anymore. I am waiting for EUROPA BARBARUM II Mod for Medieval II, i hope they will not stop to work at this project

@NeoTheo9 I know. XD I loved seeing the odds stacked against me. Even against the Early Roman armies. I'd go really? :O For a few seconds and usually I felt confidant enough in my troops I could win. Some of the best battles worked like that.

Hopefully not, the style of warfare after the era Empire: TW covers changed so drastically I myself think a more modern time than that would suck, to say the least, in a Total War game.
Just letting them perfect the games in gameplay, as well as visual and audio appeal, in the time periods they have covered works for me. (800 BC - 1800 AD, even though I never found Empire appealing, the Imperial Age don't interest me much)

Well I've got it on the HDD but havn't played it yet, and what I'm talking about is the barbarian invasion, apparently pretty much Rome-TW 2 I'm told. But for an actual Rome-TW 2...I say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", PC gamer 95% score, I still havn't cleared it due to various reasons (Reformating. New cmptr etc) and Activision & creative assembly may have made the mistake of actually making a game so good that gamers won't look passed it...? Graphics still brill.

One of the best things about this game is the multiplayer in my opinion. The CPU has set difficulties and strategies. Against other people you never know what you'll ecounter.

Classic game! Britons, Gauls and the Germanians have always been my favorites; although Greece got funnier to play with the Europa Barbarorum mod. Medieval 2 was awesome too, I agree that so far only Empire has dissapointed me. It was so boring when everyone had the same units, just muskets muskets muskets. No real challenge just lining up your soldiers and fire away until one unit is left standing.

Both really are amazing games. The soundtrack (especially in Kingdoms) are outstanding. Gameplay and campaign are also brilliant (Not so much Ai)
Empire though, awful awful soundtrack (None of the songs are memorable), gameplay is a bit slow and stiff, only Naval combat that has any 'thrill' towards it.
Campaign is the only better thing about Empire.

Yeah I know what you mean. Empire didn't have the same feeling as the earlier ones had.
It was too easy, you didn't get the same sense of accomplishment when you won a battle.

Once you wanted to make it harder too, you rake up the difficulty to Vhard, and you find the AI just cheats with better morale and stats..
Now CA has the cheek to start making another game. I'm just going to continue playing Rome and Med II.

Napoleon Total war is coming very soon.
Too bad it's almost the same time era as Empire. The combat is a lot more epic with meele weapons, not just standing in a straight line shooting a each other.
I miss the phalanx formations :'/

Yeah, practically a few years after where Empire left off. It's a shame it's musket + bayonet too, I would much prefer they went back to melee weapons (Imagine the hand to hand animations with the sword and shield, it would be awesome)
I fear CA is going down a dark path. If they're not carful they're going to lose what made them so very different to other game companies.
Phalanx was the shit. Using companions and royal pikemen. That was REAL tactics, rather than blasting people with led..

I wish they would go back and make Roman Total war again and add naval battles and some things they've made in the other games but still keep the old Rome look. The other ones Idk just don't really have the feeling RTW has.

Rome was the best period in human history, but the greek soldiers are 10times cooler then roman legionairs... Thats because I ahve a weakness for phalanx! :D and their helmets.... damn!

Yeah I always liked the Corinthian style ones that covered the face, especially the Spartan Royal Guards from the Extended Greek Mod. That had some really cool units.

Fantastic soundtrack, brings back all the memories of RTW....you can virtually feel the times of Scipio Africanus, Hannibal, Caesar and Marc Anton come to life...one of the greatest periods in human history.

This, RTW was the last total war game i enjoyed..MTW2 is not so good and too easy, ETW is mediocre...

I agree, but I think a naval-combat DLC or some other DLC to make the current one greater could be just as good. besides, as technology gets better, older games like Rome Total War become easier to play with large numbers :D
