  • Isn't Scipio meant to have lined up his forces with columns beforehand (as opposed to the typical Roman quincunx chequerboard deployment? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

  • i saw this movie its more like an life story (uhh did i just fail ?)

  • 0:32 guy on the left rolls his eyes

  • BRING IT DOWN! BRING IT DOWN! BRING IT DOWN!

  • The guy at 0:42 looks constipated XD

  • Who ever heard of a white mahout?

  • OMG!!! The Narrator is the voice of Pompey Magnus from HBO's Rome!!!

  • @powerman923 don´t cum

  • @magnvsmarcvs Too late!

  • 1:58 why would u jump at the elephant!

  • the narrator is none other than HBO Romes own Pompey the great

  • Pompey Magnus from HBO's Rome is the narrator :)

  • RTW reference FTW

  • where are those green arrow markers under the soldiers , .... how could they know which unit they chosen to move ?????

  • @magnvsmarcvs only the commander can see them

  • @magnvsmarcvs Each Maniple, cohort, legion, or century- your so called "units" had a signifier which held a sign which told what unit they were. They also had a Vellexius that was basicly the flag bearer of the army.

  • @paintballKid545 Hey idiot, before you attempt to teach me history of the roman military system you have to understand that my question about green markers is a joke that only refers to the players of RTW and many of it´s modes , like Europa Barbarorum which is my favourite + the cohorts are arangment of the post-Marian reforms not of the 2nd Punic war

  • @magnvsmarcvs Geez what stick got rammed up your ass. I wasn't trying to teach you about roman military history and i know that cohorts werent created at this time. I was just saying in general how units were determined. So fuck you jerk. I was just trying to help. How about you grow the fuck up kid and stop making jokes about video games you fucking asshole. God im sick of you kids and your fucking video game jokes. So fucking immature and annoying. GROW UP and fuck off jackass.

  • @paintballKid545 Again , you are being idiot , again you are making assumptions , first I´m not a kid and the RTW is not really kinda a game that kids of today would even consider to play , it s a strategy that requires brain , love of ancient history and time . So you see , the joke is for those who love antic history and it strategy not for guys like paintballKid545 .

  • @magnvsmarcvs Im not saying your a kid for playing RTW. I play that game and i love it. But personally i perfer 19th century history over the ancient times. Hence i play NTW rather then RTW. Im calling you not really a kid cause of your age, but because of your immaturity in making video game jokes. Which aren't really to bad but they are over used. Im sure you know -"arrow to the Knee" And others. By the way you making assumptions about my love for military strategy which i do....

  • @paintballKid545 Don´t see what is immature in my joke, once there was a discussion on twc forum how the creators of mod E.B. to make it more realistic disabled the green markers ,which made battles harder to control especially in those bogged down mish-mash batttles + the general discussion of how difficult was for the commander of those days to manage the battle and transfer the orders to the first lines , that´s not immature just a little bit geeky !

  • @magnvsmarcvs I don't see it as geeky. If you are in to something like that then i don't see it as geeky at all:). Plus im a geek anyway. And before i play NTW battles i go on websites to look at unit stats and try to for the best possible army. I spent hours on it and made dozens of armies.

  • @magnvsmarcvs I like PLaying Rome Total War as a kid

  • @MsThemuh check your spelling , don´t know what are you actually trying to say , do you play AS KID , or you trying to say that you played RTW as kid referring to my immaturity ?

  • @magnvsmarcvs I know I should check my spelling. What I mean was I like playing Rome Total War when I was a child. I also like history too. What I was trying to say is not all kids dislike history.

  • @MsThemuh K OK , no need to pump up the recruitment bar , save the denari , peace between us , just wasn't sure where were you aiming at !

  • @ethanswenson1993 romes worst nightmare. that is the movie it is from

  • damn

i would scared to death when i saw those elephants coming straight at me XD

  • @Luukablee Roman discipline man.

  • lol those elephants didnt have armour

  • Holy crap, this has pila, velites, and hastati. That automatically makes it the most authentic portrayal of a republican Roman army I have ever seen!

  • @jlop985 Indeed. How dare they not show Romans with Lorica Segmentata. The only armor we know from Hollywood historical sources that the Romans used between 200 bc to 600 ad.

  • @Lavard14

This battle was fought before 200 BC. It was also before the manipular formations came into being. They still used Velites, Hastati, Triarii and Princepes. The Lorica segmentata was used once they changed their formation-style

  • @Georgejmh I know... You probably did not understand what i wrote.

  • @Lavard14

Oh. OK. Now I catch your sarcasm! The BBC Series ROME also avoided the Lorica.

  • @Georgejmh

I really don't want to look like a "know-it-all" and to educate anyone, but the earliest lorica segmentata finds are from Kalkriese, Teutoburger Wald, from 9 AD. The adaption of the laminated armour has nothing to do with the change of tactics within the battle order of the Roman army.

  • @szaboa123

Under Julius Caesar it was the Lorica Hamata (chain mail). It was probably during Octavian that the segmental plate armor was incorporated. The plate armor is a superior armor to the chain mail.

Therefore the plate armor was introduced after the republic era.

  • @ConstantineJoseph There is no evidence that the Lorica Segmentata was superior to the Lorica Hamata, and there is no evidence that it was in wide-spread use among all Roman legions---most just stayed with the Lorica Hamata

  • @BloodiestMargie

Just think about it, a plate mail is harder to pierce than chain mail. Chain mail is good against slashing attacks but piercing strikes will deem it useless. The plate armor is better against piericing attacks as one has to puncture through the metal.

However weight wise, the Lorica Hamata allows more flexibility.

  • @BloodiestMargie

I was talking about the period of the height of the Roman empire. That was went Lorica segmentata was used to her most. Lorica Hamata is a mainstay, used since the Roman Republic era to the Late Roman Empire and beyond.

By the 3rd century A.D, the the Hamata was the armor of the Romans, beginning the late Roman Empire Army, which was more inferior to the legions of former empire.

  • @ConstantineJoseph

Uhmmm...yes, I was pretty much saying exactly the same... The first archaeological record of lorica segmentata is dated to 9 AD, and the first iconographic evidences are somewhat later, early imperial stuff. Read my comment again, please! The use of lorica segmentata probably lasted until the middle of the third century AD, however the widespread usage already ceased by the end of the second century AD.
