would say, what I would do is research the platform, even looking the car up on wikipedia is better than going by some hearsay of people who just don't like the car or like another car more, whether the engine has to be pulled in the 300zx or the 3000GT weighs a bit more than the others doesn't matter, the truth is all of those cars of that era(RX-7, Supra, 3000GT/Stealth, 300ZX, NSX) are cars that stood out and continue to stand out even today and with 11+ years of wear, things break

I prefer the Skyline GTR over the 3000GT. I prefer the 3000GT over a 300ZX. However I haven't yet driven an RX7 or a Supra so I can't make the call on those yet.
Wow i miss the sound of my vr4 soo much! I want it back, I own a z now, Which I love.. but the 3000gt was just sooo torquey! it was gross the anger the thing let out and it could handle sooo fuckin well. Hopin to get a skyline soon tho, R33 : )

If i'd actually gotten to drive my SL i'd have a better opinion of it. But mine has problems. The ignition fuse blew and now when i shift it from park to reverse (obviously automatic) the engine lurches forward like a mount is broken. But doesn't do that when i put it in drive. It won't shift out of first gear (won't go to second ,OD nothing... even if i switch it like a manual) and it has a massive lack of power..anyone know what would cause this?
i'm pretty sure that the transmission isn't bad because usually the tranny fluid would smell burnt.. However, my dad is claiming that i had to have busted a motormount (that he can't find.) and the tranny as i said wont shift out of first, so he thinks i messed it up.. I think the problem is with the electrical system... I'm hoping someone will know what would cause this.

Did you drive that beast? I drove it, rode with a professional race driver and it's a complete, scary beast. Owned SL automatic model for 17 years, even that one is totally sick car. Had it twice up to 160mph no problem. Absolutely love the car. Can easily upgrade to more HP without any damage to motor. VR4 is Ferrari of poor people. Don't remember anyone saying this about any other car! 1992 and 1993 models were the best...

Its the 1994 and its the SL model. I would probably would have at least 6 speeding tickets and possibly dead if i had gotten the vr4 cause i can barely keep near the speed limit in the SL.

haha. Now thats a hard decision! If you dont mind getting a few tickets and paying a ton of money for the insurance, get the vr4. I definently enjoy driving the SL and would recommend it to anybody. But if i were you, i would go with the Vr4. 218hp with FWD vs 300hp with AWD. The decision should be unanimous =)

Yes I know that the transfer case is part of the drivetrain hence me saying it above responding to your comment about the drivetrain be 'notoriously weak'. This is one weak link just like every car has. Many things can change handling, braking, and acceleration not just a little extra weight. Driving style, the driver, how much psi is in tires...... 220 lbs is not that much more than an average human's weight.

The fact is the Getreg transmission is actually a very strong transmission. They may have a weak transfer case (which is actually under recall and will replace for free), but also remember that there are guys running close to
700 hp through these transmissions that were meant for a stock 300 to 320 hp...
What other transmission can make claims of even standing up to one race in a stock configuration. Chevy? No, Ford? No, Dodge? Maybe, but the U joints would never.
That said to try to dispel the myth that these transmissions are weak for they certainly are not.

Its the 1994 SL with a cold air intake and a Borla exhaust. Go for the gt, you will not regret it =D

Its the 1994 and its the SL model. I would probably would have at least 6 speeding tickets and possibly dead if i had gotten the vr4 cause i can barely keep near the speed limit in the SL.

haha nice, and yeah i totally understand, im trying to chose between a 1991 vrk and a 1999 sl tomorrow. im also only 16, but yeah, is the sl quick and fun to drive?

haha. Now thats a hard decision! If you dont mind getting a few tickets and paying a ton of money for the insurance, get the vr4. I definently enjoy driving the SL and would recommend it to anybody. But if i were you, i would go with the Vr4. 218hp with FWD vs 300hp with AWD. The decision should be unanimous =)

haha, you know thats what i though too, but, the vr4 was a 91 and it sounded good, but looked and felt like shit, so i went with a 1999 sl and wow, yeah that thing hauls surprisingly, i sat in it and drove it, wow. its sick as hell, so yeah i totally love the sl, im glad i bought it today :)

haha. Yea, then the SL was a good choice and the 1999 model looks really good. I think at some point i will change the front end of my car to look like it. How much did you end up payin for the car?

yeah its awesome, i payed 5750 for it, it has 109k miles on it, so its not bad :) but yeah leather interior, new battery, everything is electrical, i love it.

hmm, i wonder why the 3000 lasted till 99 and every other import sport on went as high as what 96. Plus 3000's are way nicer looking than your 300's and you can have fun working on a 300zx engine your better off buying a 240 than a 300 lol. Go race matt monnets 3000 with any of your 300's

Yes I know that the transfer case is part of the drivetrain hence me saying it above responding to your comment about the drivetrain be 'notoriously weak'. This is one weak link just like every car has. Many things can change handling, braking, and acceleration not just a little extra weight. Driving style, the driver, how much psi is in tires...... 220 lbs is not that much more than an average human's weight.

The fact is the Getreg transmission is actually a very strong transmission. They may have a weak transfer case (which is actually under recall and will replace for free), but also remember that there are guys running close to
700 hp through these transmissions that were meant for a stock 300 to 320 hp...

What other transmission can make claims of even standing up to one race in a stock configuration. Chevy? No, Ford? No, Dodge? Maybe, but the U joints would never.
That said to try to dispel the myth that these transmissions are weak for they certainly are not.

yea you are correct they can vary by a couple tenths of a second from magazine to magazine.
Mitsubishi's performance rates the 3000GT at 0-60 in 5.4 seconds and 1/4 mile in 13.9 (Car and Driver: March 1990)

Actually every stock 3000GT tested by Road and Track, Motor Trend, Car and Driver, and many others show that they run actually higher than mid 14s in all instances.
By the way...
