@Tomahak666 I can recommend this guitar in general - but: if you heading for something more BB King style I would take a closer look to the ES-335 field.
The Epi Sheraton with Gibson Classic 57 would satisfy you more I believe - Greetings,
@alfacosmic thanks! unfortunately ES-335 is out of my range (maybe once i get out of college i would be able to afford it!) but will definitely look into Epi sheraton with classic 57 pickup. Thanks
@alfacosmic is getting up to the highest C on the high E any difficulty? That's acually a big note in the realm of bb king style playing believe it or not.
@willwelsh816 - I don´t own the Broadway anymore - sold it to a friend of mine. Generally reachin´ any fret beyond let´s say 17 or 18 or so can be very difficult on those 3-4 inch deep mama´s ;>) Well, I personally used to learn the same technique like cello player´s when accessing the higher regions on the the fretboard - I don´t wrap my thumb around the neck/body - I put the all the fingers on top of the fretboard. 335s make it much easier - love them ;>) Greeting from good old Germany, Alfred
@zulejko Bathrooms give you a strong loud tone with a very short ambiant feedback - many players like this for rehersal or even for recording - pls scrool down to find more comments on this - greetings, Alfred
Always go into the tile room to play- the acoustics are so much better. In high school (100 years ago) we had a concrete basement boys room which was huge. We would take guitars down in there and jam after school.
...yes it´s great fun - I´ve heard that Joe Pass took even recordings with a Gibson ES-175 unpugged in a bathroom. I have a nice Epi 175 and will try that later on.
Ron, the Broadway is a standard model - no Elitist - amazing , eh? Greetings from Germany - Don
A Super Reverb can be pretty loud - I have a Super Champ from 82 that can blow you away - feedback is a common problem on all (not only on this nice EPI)full body acoustic-electric guitars. If you play it clean (very low gain) at moderate volume (let´s say a Jazz Combo with drums, piano, bass) you can always cut through an do your thing - no problem.
So, you Super Reverb in the a.m. setting should be absolutly ok ;>)
Larry Coryell played a big jazz box through a twin reverb LOUD for a few years in his Harry Wilkinson/Mervyn Bronson band and controlled and used the feedback beautifully, you can hear this on his record 'Fairyland' 1970 or so. I hear those Paul Rivera era Super Champs are nuts, they go for $800-1200 on EBay!
i really don't which one to get.... this epiphone broadway or the les paul custom in all black... they are in my price range... and im oging towards stevie ray vaugn and bb king.. i have been play only for 4 months and i have a right handed guitatr switched to a left beucase i play lefty... i just don't no which one to pick,
Hi, I guess that you are a younger person an I would give you the advise to start with a Les Paul typ guitar as I did 45 years ago. Reasons: 1. You can do many styles on a LP - it might sound different but is ok!
2. LPs are usually "easy players" -if you just started you should have fun also
3. Jazz mamas like the Broadway are prone to feedback in high gain amp settings - if you not found "your" sound right now a LP will allow you many experiments from clean Jazz to Metal - ;>) Alfred
is it also good acouticly.. like sorta loud slash and bends?? i have a vid on my site... but ita quite bad to tell u the truth.. i was playing in the col but i am alot better since that video 2 weeks ago.... i just really dont no.. i not one of those guys who can make those kinds of desision unless i had some expert with me...
that and im uplaod a better verison of me with a little begginner improve with a backing track... if i can get a new wire thing from my guitar to my amp
They are really two different guitars. If you are a beginner I'd shy away from a big Jazz box unless you know for sure thats the only style you are going to play. I agree with the Choice of getting an LP or maybe a 335 type. Both are really versatile. If you try to do some high gain, Slash type stuff on a full hollow, its going to feedback like crazy.
ok umm one last thing.... just incase i cant get a LP.. what about a Gibson SP? or maybe.. what i was thinking of getting was a epiphone custom in black with black hardware... im going to video me in my music store... and show all the lefty's... i just wasnt a guitar that will be near perfect for me for like 5-10 years.
Hi my friend - I have 3 Epis and are very happy with them. Have checked out the Les Paul lefty - So far ok but the pickups are below the level of the rest of the guitar - consider to swap them. One suggestion from me - PARKER PM-20PRO FHB LH - I have a PM-10 which is muchcheaper (as a Gibson Les Paul) but rivals my Gibson Les Paul Standard from 1980! The PM-20 has excellent SD pups a maple top (Epi´s is mahogany) and coil split option which delivers much more sounds - peace Alfred
ok thanx very much.. couple last things...... one.. a close one is a EPI sheraton.... versus the les paul custom in black AGAIN(im sorry, thier just both cheap for me and my dad's buget(200-700$CDN).. the PARKER guitar i cant find anywhere in the GTA of toronto for some reason.. or if you no any Gibson's around that price range.. cuase my cousin got gibson SD in a sunburst color for about 500 and he got it as a gift... and its new, somtin light, im sorry if im very demanding, my dad's gene
The Sheraton is more open (natural) in tone due to semi accoustic body and f-holes - the Les Paul is more artificial (electric) sounding. The Sheraton might tend to feedback earlier with hi gain amp settings- Again - both Epis play below their level with the stock pups - consider a pup swap to achive the full potential of both guitars. Sorry I´m not familiar with the availability and street price of guitars in the Toronto area - you could order by mail in the us and return it (if shop allows)
ok thamx soo much, just one last thing, did u check out my video on my account. im getting there, but not really there yet, i still like your playing but i might just get a EPI les paul custom in black instead,i just feel that a gibson is sooo much better, but more expencive, at least they sound nearly the same..and what is a PUP SWAP? cuase im also afraid to change anything in my guitars, plus, I WILL UPLOAD A VIDEO OF THE GUITAR IM GETTING so maybe u can see if i can change i thank you 4 ur help
Hi there, yes right, I replaced the bridge cause I wanted a brighter tone - I have the Gibson Classic 57 on the Broadway - they are quite dark an I wanted to compensate that with the steel bridge - it worked as you can hear ;>)
Hy sugarbirdz, both Epis (Broadway and Casino) are quite loud unplugged - the Broadway leads due to the larger body - Casino has a very sweet tone which I like even more. Amplified the Broadway is dark and mellow but not muddy (typical jazz tone) and the Casino is round and full with a crisp sparkle. Keep in mind that I replaced the stock pups - Gibson Classic 57 PAF on the Broadway and Seymour Duncan Antiquity dog ear P90 on the Casino - watch out I will post a Casino Video around xmas ;>)
Hello - yes, the Broadway is my loudest guitar unplugged - I have also a Casino which has a sweet and bluesy tone yet not as loud as the Broadway - I´ve heard that Joe Pass recorded his ES-175 unplugged in the bath room - good recommendation I thought... ;>)
really nice playing there. thinking of getting an epi but just wondered if its difficult to carry out upgrades on a semi, i mean is it not difficult to get the parts fitted. cheers
it´s quite tricky to replace parts of the electronic. Remove electronics through one of the pickup holes. Then replace some/all of the old parts an slide the circuit back in. (puh). It takes me 5-6 hours to do it!. I can´t recommend this procedure if you not sure how to perform it. On the other side - it really brings live to fareast guitars.Find someone how is familiar with those mods or try eg. an IBANEZ Artcore custom - the electronics and pups are perfect - I own one! ;>) Don Alfredo

I expect something like 600 to 700 CAD$ and around 200 CAD for the Gibson 57 Classics (if you would like to swap the stock epi pups)
Greetings from Germany
