Think it is only the Female that can sting though. They make the maddest sound when they fly, you can hear them from a distance away, like a rattling humming sound.
Live in UK, we do not have these wasps here but saw one years ago, it chased my sister and I. it was huge and made a humming noise as it flew. We followed it b4 it chased us and it attacked a huge bumble bee. Can only think it was confused and it thought the bee was a spider? The bumble bee strangely was also one of the largest bees I ever seen. The Wasp must have been 3-4 inches, its colours were mad, kinda black/ blue/ red. Can only think the Wasp got over here in a crate of fruit or something.
I read that being stung by one of those hawk wasp is a pretty bad experience like having your blood replaced with fire and being able to do nothing but scream
The information you've been giving is wrong, Tarantula hawks are very docile however, their sting is very painful among the top 10 if I remember correctly. The pain intense and last up to around 3 minutes. However, it won't kill.
Haha! I see there are other people who play Fallout: New Vegas too. YEah when I saw the Cazadors I got this weird sense of familiarity. i didn't realize what it was until I saw that the Cazador was modeled after this ungodly thing. It's cool though because I didn't know what that was when I saw it in the Mojave.
My friend and I were driving back from Lancaster, CA. through the Mojave tgo the Tehachapi mountains when his Jeep overheated. He got out to see what he could do with the Jeep and I stayed inside. It was really hot, 112 degrees, and i happened to look out the window and saw this thing fly by. It had to be 3 or 4 inches and it scared the crap out of me. i was so freaked I rolled up the widows!
they are not aggressive towards human, and they only sting when severly provoked. also, the stings hurt like HELL!!!!!!!!!!! but they cant kill you, not even close ( unless you are allergic or something ).
Wow! I watched a video called Tarantula VS Wasp and that is exactly what that "wasp" is! You have to watch Tarantula VS Wasp if you want to see it kiling a tarantula. It is INCREDIBLE!!! First time I saw it I almost pissed my pants it was so shocking! Now I know why. U gotta c it!!!
The Japanese Hornet and the Tarantula hawk are two of the most severe stings by insects I wanna train both species to take down the African Honey Bees once and for all.
The Pepsis Wasp (Tarantula Hawk) is not aggressive, unless provoked. They will not bother you, if you leave them alone. That said, I'd give them a wide berth if you see one. Don't risk it. The sting of a Tarantula Hawk is said to be the most painful sting in North America. If stung, the pain is so intense you won't be able to do anything but lie down and scream. I've never heard of anyone dying from one of their stings. It's just EXTREMELY painful.
You are so lucky you haven't been stung!!!! The tarantula hawk is one of the most aggressive and dangerous wasps in the world. They attack humans with very little provocation and their stings are extremely potent and painful. If one is sensitive to any insect venom, it only takes a couple of stings from a tarantula hawk to KILL that person.
I should have done my research before being all brave and putting my thumb next to it. Thants for the Information Glenn3rd2004, and i will keep what you said in mind if i see another one. thanks alot for the comment.
nah-glenn is incorrect. they're not aggresive and don't usually sting unless provoked. they also aren't known to kill humans. their stings are rated as one of the most painful stings of any insect in the world, however the pain doesn't last for more than a few minutes. glenn is correct that their stings are painful and that you're lucky you weren't stung, but everything else he said is misinformation.
@glenn3rd2004 Not true. The Pepsis Wasp is actually very docile and only attack when provoked. Yes the sting is extremely painful, but they are far from aggressive.
@glenn3rd2004 The sting is pretty much, you lay down for 3mins and scream. That;s all you can do, never never never get stung by one. Its rated number 4 painless sting in the world. The only thing that can beat its sting is a bullet ant.
@glenn3rd2004 they're not aggressive. But their stingers are the most painful stinger in the world. But they'r enot aggressive. They'll most likely ignore you.
I almost got stung by one of these here in California. It was a huge, maybe 4-inch tall one. it was fking insane. it was flying around us threatening us. their stings can kill.
@System16661 They wont kill you, I have been stung by one out in Arizona. It's hard to describe the pain but I have a good pain tolerance and this sucker made me get tears. To describe the pain, it wasn't a gradual pain, it was ZAP! exactly like that ZAP! like a dull red hot blade with a Zapper attached to it, BAM! extreme pain, I still have the little mark on my skin from the damn wasp.
Even a dull knife doesn't describe the pain. It was thee most painful thing I have ever felt in my life
I'm not sure about that, they seem to be solitary wasps. Maybe in swarms but I doubt only one could kill you besides going through a Hell of pain, unless you're allergic to insect stings.
That is creepy. I think that has to be the worst way to die. Not being to move while little wasps eat you from the inside out. Makes me freak out just thinking about it
Think it is only the Female that can sting though. They make the maddest sound when they fly, you can hear them from a distance away, like a rattling humming sound.

Here some facts:
1. They are VERY docile (will only attack if provoked)
2. Their sting is 2nd most painful only being beaten by the bullet ant
3. The sting can't kill unless you have a severe allergy

The Tarantula Hawk has the most painful sting of all the insects in the world :P so a hornet sting is just like a little pat on the skin.
