If you're able to rest your foot on the kick starter without putting more weight than your leg and move the starter, it might have weak compression. Mine if I rest my leg on it and put a little pressure it'll go down.
well it doesnt have the kickstart arm but the bottem end i think the bearing is shot and the top end is fine but i want to put new piston and rings in it anyway
Ah, I see. Then check out Ebay, they have a lot of stuff for these older bikes, and a few of the years most parts are interchangable, you should be able to find pretty much anything you want.
Nice man. I just bought one of these today. A 1976 DT175C. I got it for $275. SO STOKED. Only major issue is a broken throttle cable. A little tinkering and it started up and ran real nice. Can't wait to get the throttle cable and see how she rides.
Congratulations on the purchase, and a nice deal, too!
Mine is actually the same exact bike.
I thought it was a 1975. It's same bike you have, 1976 DT175C. Check NADA, it's worth $1,750 if it's in good condition. You found a great deal. I don't think you'll be disappointed in the 175! And throttle cable is an easy fix. Once you get it going do you plan on making a video? I'd love to see it.
dude there is no need to bag on his bike its nice thats its an old bike thats been restored and DT 175's are fast as hell my friend has one. I have a IT400 yamaha 1979 and i dig it old bikes are sick i am still restoring mine
DAMN thats origonal!!! shit dude keep that thing it will be worth alot of money in like 10yrs. beautiful bike bro. make a video if you can of you riding it i would love to see that if ya have time to make a video sometime soon. no pressure.
thanks. I don't plan on getting rid of this thing, and I don't plan on putting many more miles on it. It's got about 2,400 miles on it originally.
And I'll make a video, I'm trying to get a helmet cam, that way I can make a quick video of me riding the 175 off road a little bit to show what it's got for being a 33 year old street bike. It's a fun bike for how small it is.
Mine, I could probably get close to $2,000 if I got the original bars and got a couple bugs worked out of it, [Left turn signal decides to stay on and not blink]
And If I really cleaned it up a lot. But mine has like 2,284 miles or somewhere around that also, so It's still pretty new, for being 33 years old.
whoah same thing.... my left signal just lights up. I gots me a yellow 1978. They are great bikes. i got mine for $650 but with a fixed seat, a fixed carb (mine works, just needs fix), and a new petcock, i could get a lot. Great bike for anything. Has very large tires, and i love it. Fast bike, but not great acceleration, and with proper technique and a bit of getting used to you can jump them pretty well.
Got mine for like $250 and put about $400 into it to get it running, then some time into it to get it to shine. They do jump pretty good, I agree on that, and the acceleration is okay. For just little 175 bikes from the 70's that is.
Uhm, that's an RMX dumb ass it's the trail rider it's a fucking two stroke the RMZ is a fourstroke racing bike the RMX has the RM motor just different gearing and exhaust setup. I think I'd know, since I ride and RMX
Nice bike, I have a 76 175. It's a lemon tho, I never can keep it running for any amount of time before something goes wrong with. But, you have a nice one, take care of it.
Awwh man what has gone wrong with yours? Only thing wrong with mine is that when I have the blinkers on on won't work, sometimes it will just turn on and stay on not blink. I think it's a ground problem.
Oh yeah, it's worth some money if I keep it in good shape. Most abuse it ever takes is running wide open through the trails. [=
I got it three and a half years ago and it had sat in a shed for years. I finally got it running and the starter was worn out. Then the stator got water in it somehow and rusted so it quit running, got that fixed and it ran good for a while, but I never could get it to idle right. I was adjusting the carb one day and over-reved it BAD. I replaced the rings and got the top end redone and had the thing running amazing, but I didn't know it but I had a bad seal in the bottom end.
About two years ago my dad was riding it and the top end fried because of the bad seal. He payed for the new top end, ($150) and I put it back together. It ran for about a minute and died and hasn't run since. I have a 175 engine that I bought but can't get to run, and a 125 that would run if it had rings. I can't even get anyone to buy it. I put it on ebay about a year ago and it wouldn't sell. I don't know what to do with it besides let it sit or scrap it. But, that's my 175 story :-(
Are you a dumb ass? I ride an RMX 250. 2 Stroke. Bitch. I don't ride the 175 much anymore. But the 175 still rips like a mother fucker. It will keep up with my 250. Without breaking a sweat. That Suzuki I talk about in the video. Is now mine. Jackfuck
Top speed you fucking dumb shit the 250 two strokes have a top speed stock of aprox 80
Which, my 175 is geared for top speed so I can pull 85 90 pushing it. The Suzuki runs circles around my 175 at half throttle on the RMX and full out on my Yamaha. I told you, come to Spokane and I'll fucking show you.
That's one sweet DT. I've been looking for a vintage Honda, Yammy or Kaw Enduro to do some trail riding. It would need to be a bit rashed up though...anything as nice as yours and I wouldn't be able to get myself to take it off road. :)
Thanks, It's fun to ride on the trails. It's really easy to keep clean actually. Just takes a little spray down use a little soap and it's clean. The bike can take pretty much anything you throw at it. I mean. I've climbed huge hills with it. It handles them just as well as my dad's bike does. Thanks for the comment :]

jmuzzy73 2 years ago
Why junk it?
I bet I would walk all over you with this "piece of shit" DT175, you don't even have a video of whatever you have, if you have anything.
Meet me at the ORV park here, anytime. I'll race you. Uphill, downhill, curvy, straight, and you see how "shitty" my 175 is, pussy.
ryanthie 2 years ago
try hitting some jumps, anyways, nice bike
HugABudda 2 years ago
Jumps kinda sucked on this bike, the suspension is way soft.
I ride a KX250 Now so jumps are fine. ;]

dude you might as well junk that dt 175
jmuzzy73 2 years ago
how much is a dt175 worth if its in good condition and everything works?

Not sure, depends on the year and everything.
Mine, I could probably get close to $2,000 if I got the original bars and got a couple bugs worked out of it, [Left turn signal decides to stay on and not blink]

Maybe a bit less than $2,000, maybe more, I'm not sure. I'm not planning on selling it any time soon so I haven't really thought about it.

And you are the guru on comp 2 stroke enduro bikes? WTF?
The RMZ is a imposter dirt bike and does not qualify as a dirt bike any more than the DT175 does!
When U leave comments people will come here and see what?
You should comment on subjects you know about not subjects you have no clue about.
Stick to push bikes until you own a real dirt bike, aah and maybe a couple more hours riding trails as a drive way does not count.

Oh I wonder why it won't run now. that's weird.
Well you could probably bring it to a Yamaha dealer and have them look through it and diagnose a problem.
But if you don't do that, you could always take the good parts and sell them as individuals on ebay/ craigslist/ etc...
that way it's not sitting. Or you can keep trying to fix it up.

A 30 year old Yamaha DT175 will stay with a RMX250 without breaking a sweat???
Shows how much better the Yamaha is than the Suzuki!
You said your 250 stays with a 450??? in other words you crappy old DT175 will not break a sweat staying with a 450 either???
