I shot with both and both are excellent. I agree that the tokina is a better build. My only beef was the switching from man to auto on the tokina. Other than that I'd recomend both. If your torn like I was goto your photo store and try them both out and see which fits both your needs and your budget.
@QQQQcon Thanks !!! I think i will buy Nikon since i want wide angle lens primarily for landscape but would want to use it for indoor photography as well. hope it would be a better choice !!! what do u say ???
@shabeebrizvi the tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 is the ultimate lens for wide angle indoor photography actually. If you want the longer focal length though the nikon 10-24mm will give sharper images than the 12-24mm tokina at faster f/stops. However the 11-16mm is just as sharp as nikon and is a stop faster.
hey, quick question. i need a really good wide angle lens for nightlife photography. would you reccomend this lens for group pictures, single portraits and color abbreviations in clubs? i was thinking of getting this lens.
this is the only reason i shoot canon , the wide angles for the smaller nikons without af drive are either average like this , and the nice ones like the tokina 11-16 dont af . hence a 550d with a 10-22 . otherwise nikon anyday
@chekavar Ok, thanks! Because I've got a 16-85mm kitlens. And that's a 67mm diameter. So I'm not sure to buy a 67mm or a 77mm filter with an adapter ring...
@merrittixtapa79 this is the best if you like getting really wide, the tokina 12-24mm is the best choice if you want an awesome lens for a good price.
If I may give some constructive criticism, you should use a screen capture program during your lens reviews so we can see the sample images much better. Because you have a mac you do not have to buy any extra software there is a great screen capture feature built in to Quick Time, I would check it out.
Awesome reviews! Really down to earth and young so a lot of us can relate to you. You seem to have become pretty successful, at least equipment wise haha. D3 and D3x? Glad to see you have come so far, I remember your days with your d300, you have come a long ways.
I think people would really benefit to hear a little about how you market yourself, as in how you get people to see you work, purchase, and anything else business wise. That is often never covered among photographers.
@davidophoto the way i market myself is through youtube otherwise i would get no publicity. These videos are how i make my money and how i get people to see my photos.

@QQQQcon Thanks for quick response... here is what i conclude from you:
tokina 11-16mm - ultimate for indoors
tokina 12-24mm - gr8 fro landscape
nikon 10-24mm - combination of two above? [sharp but low build quality] RIGHT ???

@genzhood48 it would be alright, ultra wide angle is not the best portrait lens because of distortion. a 24-70mm lens would be better.

I hated that lens, Tokina 11-16 for DX FTW and of course the Nikkor 14-24mm F2.8 for FX, haven't tried the new 16-35 F4 VR though...

Were these sample shots taken with the D3x in DX mode? If so, the vignetting is a little scary...
