there is only one thing that i din't like about this movie and that was a cop shooting into the crowd when the climax takes place on the carousel. that is the only objection i have, because cops, even in 1951 followed this rule i suppose of not to shoot at a suspect, especially when in a crowd.
what's up with all the old movies? I mean, i love em 2(if they're good) but i get the feeling people rate them 10 out of 10 just because they're classics. It's been 60 yrs, let's face it, those movies are outdated. What's wrong with liking the new movies? I hate comments like " grrr i hate these new Hollywood shit movies, i miss the golden days of Hollywood..." blah blah...why the urge to like the classics? Not all of them are outstanding just cuz they're old. Don't hate me for this comment
hitchcock is a good writer wonderful too i liked the birds physo rear window his other movies i never saw but im going to see all his movies the 39 step looks good fuck all the remakes
Robert Walker stole the show. He was a straight guy playing a closet homosexual. Ironically Farley Granger was gay but played a straight man. Ruth Roman just walked through the movie. Pat Hitchcock (Hitch's daughter) does a nice support as her younger sister. Worth watching the movie.
Excellent. I saw this played at the Stables Theatre in Hastings (UK) in 2004 And it is a superb story if the acting is good. Which it was. Bruno is a horrendously evil and controlling creep. I wanted to jump up on stage and ring his bloody neck!! :¬D
Hello Hollywood You are absolutely dying to remake and ruin this novel and classic film aren't you? So before you do please take heed.......DON'T!!! Leave it alone!
i don't know why, but robert walkier sorta looked like an evil bill murray to me in this film. it was a good, film, my second favorite hitchcock behind his comedy film, the trouble with harry, and all performances were great, but i just can't get over the look of him...
I remember that tennis match. That was definitely tense. That one and the assassination scene in "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (the one with Doris Day) are probably my favorites. And that merry-go-round scene...
@animalmother1065 I know, it really takes you out of the element of suspense with the campy text taking up the whole screen. But that's how they did things back then; when the credits were all before or as the opening scene played out taking up the entire screen instead of a corner, and the previews actually were trailers at the end of the film. Times have changed, but maybe just maybe they were on to something. :)
@animalmother1065 Yeah, exactly! Alot of the movies we take for granted as being classics today were in their day, classics not simply because they were thrilling or horrifying at face value but obscenely dry in humor and their subtext witty as well. How else do you think the Munsters or Addams Family later came about? Or 60's Batman for that matter? It was all about burlesque amongst high class! Truman Capote's Holly Golightly. Riot on Sunset Strip. Cheeky repartee that unveils puritans.
Obviously, Hitchcock had no hand in making this trailer.

They did this on Castle too. Only it was strangers on a ferry.
Would have been better if they had kept closer to Hitchcock's vision.

Did you guys know there making a remake of this movie. Except there making it with teenagers. It'll probably be stupid. You can't beat Hitchcock.

Is this the movie that is talked about in the first half "The Filmmaker's Mystery" of the The Mystery Plays by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa?

Love this film, but I always find the campy elements of previews from classic cinema rather comical. All the tag lines make me chuckle.
