im not sure why you would put this kind of money into a car with a automatic.. i have this car with a maual tramission i know that the quad 4 is a powerful motor and a very fun but you should look into shift kits or Manual tranmission
@vipspecial It's extremely easy to own an auto-trann car due to the fact that there isn't a huge up build to it.. And for the most part the mods done to a car like the the Transmission will hold better then you think.
Any car guy know that you should not max out your rpms befor shifting for one you will run the risk on blowin the motor or gaskits or a number of more problems. if you put this car on a dynamometer you will see that the car will peak at around 4500 if you know what to listin for you will know when a proper time to shit or in your case let off
as long as you got the right mods and keep up on maintence no leaving your motor 100% stock and never taking care of it yes it will eventially were the motor down
My grand am has the original tranny from the factory, 110K and I'm running a turbo setup, no problems yet. The tranny is actually pretty stout in grand ams (- the diff), they can last a long time but the clutch packs can burn up quick, that's really the only reason it's hard to put a lot of power through them.

maybe a stick would have been a batter idea
if you shift at 6000 flat you will max out a lot faster and a lot easier.

A boost gauge? Why? He should get a scanning gauge that monitors engine parameters like KR. The tranny will probably be the first thing to go though.

yup the trannies in these are known for being kinda weak.. know too many people that have replaced them after less than 100k

actually the motor is still going strong after 8000 miles of being turbo'd and i do have a boost gauge...off to the side
zraptor3136 3 years ago
so, how much long after did the motor blow? seriously consider a boost gauge.
