Every person is different but I personally think the animation is excellent (Im trying to get into animation myself) and the characters are very well written and likable. Lauren Faust marketed the show so that people could like it no matter the age or gender. Something that she did previously with Powerpuff Girls and Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends. Their is an article online that explains it better than I can but I hope I answered your question.
