Punishing a puppy for toileting inside doesn't teach them not to toilet inside, it teaches them not to toilet in front of you, or where you might find it. Result? You take your puppy for a walk, and it's too scared to wee, so when you get home, it goes and pees behind the couch!
It was pretty easy to house train the dog. I caught each one a couple times peeing and immediately gave them the "NO!". I read that using the same command that tells the dog you are unhappy with their behavior is key. That makes it easy for them to identify when you are upset. Rather than say something like "Don't pee in the house" You point at the pee and say "NO!" and they know it wasn't a good idea to pee there. But you also have to reward the right behavior like praise when they pee outside.
It would be great to hear about Nature's Miracle, that permanently eliminates all stains and odors so the pets aren't tempted to urinate in the same spot. It sinks into the wooden floorboards to. But there is a small chance it could change the color of the carpet.
What if you can't get the puppy to pee outside in the first place? I can't reinforce that positive behavior if she won't even pee outside to begin with.
Take her outside first thing when she wakes up, after breakfast, after you have your lunch, afternoon just before dinner, after she has her dinner and just before bed.
When she pees outside praise her and give her a treat. Then put a bell on your door and train her to ring it when she wants to get out.
See, I don't even think that "dog" and "punish" should be in the same sentence! You need to distract your dog from doing whatever it is and make the new distraction MORE attractive than the original thing it was doing. So your dog chews your shoes? Give him a dog toy and keep your shoes away in a high place! Dog runs away? Make yourself so wonderful that the dog wants to stay with you. Dogs behave like dogs, and its up to us to understand that and work with that.
@dafunkmonster A dog won't bite if it's been treated correctly since it was a puppy. When you have a puppy, and it bites, all you have to do is yelp like a littermate that has been hurt, and stop playing with him. When the puppy has learned this control and it no longer bites hard enough to hurt, move the yelping up a notch so that you're yelping when the puppy mouths you, even if it doesn't hurt. This will teach the pup that mouthing is not allowed, and you will have a dog that will NEVER bite.
i understand what you are saying, but I still didnt get the answer. If my my dog does break the rules or misbehave, what would be an appropriate punishment. Please note that i understand the reward system, but how should i punish ?
He said not to punish your dog unless you absolutely have to. which would usually involve a tap on the behind or nose.
never punch it or throw it around and NEVER rub its nose in its mess.
get a soda can and throw some pennies in it and duck tape it closed and shake it when its in the middle of going potty to let it know that your serious.
@tishampat theres nothing u can do if u didnt catch them in the act of pooping or peeing, . The only way u can do is catch them while there using it and say no or stop and hurry up take them out side and reward them. Dogs live in the moment , they dont think about the past
@mrjon75 i never said they were stupid i said they live in the moment . what do you mean if they have training that is training and if they already have training than the owner wouldnt be watching this video commenting and asking questions about housebreaking so the dog owner i was talking to obviously has a dog that has had limited training.
@mrjon75 and the dog will know they did something wrong i never denied that but the thing is they wont know what is was they did wrong if you u punish them like more than a few seconds after they did it or they will think that whatever they were doing at the moment you decided to hit them was wrong like playin wit their toys for ex.
It makes total sense. If you punish a dog for not following command, the dog will associate the punishment with the command. However, dogs really don't have the mind of a human, so they can't fully understand. It's all in the training. How you train your dog determines the dogs behavior. Very vague, but you have to be careful and be systematic with the dog. It really depends on the person. Meaning Maturity or maybe more.
umm sir could you make vid on how to take care of dogs in a condominium cause imm tell yrs old and my dad or mom might moght only buy me a chow chow problem is I live in a condominium and cant use the pool for the dog heelp
I think a Chow Chow is a lil' to big fr a condominium. Dogs easier to keep in APT's, the best are toy breeds like pug, pom, papillion, chihuahua etc..... Dogs that don't require alot of space and can squeeze in and bought in a hotel without letting anyone know... but I live in an apt bt i cn't keep one cuz my apt doesn't allow dogs.... If i were, i'd keep a pom.....But if u want a large breed, newfoundlands and great danes are aceptable cuz they are more or less couch potatoes....

@Wickedwonka121 Right, simple commands are best, the more words used, the less they understand what you want.

@Dogitude BS, dogs aren't as stupid as you suggest. If they have training they are capable of knowing they did wrong.

@tishampati ignore it. because its your fault anyway for not paying attention to your dog when it needed to pee.
