  • Once again..well done, sir :) I enjoy videos. Educational, and money saving.

  • haha i can make one better than that for free in under 30 minutes . but great video

  • u got robed it takes 5 cents to do at home i made 4

  • always enjoy your videos..But it's a soda can as you have stated. And anyone can make one, very simple to do just look on line.. very simple to do No need to spend near $8.00 from ebay..Just a thought

  • People actually pay for these stoves???

  • Great narration: brief, clear, complete. Thanks for the review!

  • Instead of the wire cage to hold the pot I use a one gallon aluminum can with top & bottom cut out. Then ran a line of holes with can opener around the bottom outside [about 6 holes] which would be the air flow INPUT and about 6 holes around the top for the OUTFLOW of the flames. Thus "harnessing" those flames off the alcohol stove and directing them more focused on the pot being used for cooking.

  • very nice

Is that a stainless or aluminum pot ur using?

If stainless then the advertised boil test may be correct if an aluminum pot is used. If pot is aluminum then I'd say close but no cigar.

  • It's an aluminum pot. The height of the pot may have to be taken into consideration. Being a tall pot may make the time to boil time longer.

  • Bumpers are too annoyingly loud, unequal audio levels!

  • outstanding!

  • Thanks for doing the the Boil Test.

    Very detailed.

  • And you can polish the bottom and use the sun to light charcloth for fire, if needed when the alcohol runs out on the trail.

  • Nice little stove, a little slow but thats ok, speed is not always a good thing outdoors. $8 is not a bad price, then again it was really only $7.99 (penny came with it). It looks good works good and it gets the job done what more could someone want in a stove? As always another enjoyable video Hiram!

  • Hiram,

To be clear, are you adding 1 ounce (29.6 ml) to the stove and an additional 2 ml to prime (for a total of 31.6 ml)?

    Thanks,

    Jon

  • The prime was somewhere between 1 and 2 ml. Turns out it was way to much at this room temperture. Next time I'll try 1 ml or less.

  • Good testing Hiram.

I always look forward to seeing your work.

  • Thanks Mr Bill.

  • Thanks for taking the time to make this test and review...I am going to have to check out more of your videos on alcohol stoves....Cause my Grandkids want me to take them camping / & fishing...LOL...Last time I remember cooking outdoors was when I was in the Army...we used C-4 as fuel.........and my LT....blew 1/2 his foot off trying to put the fire out...Guess I am well out of touch about camp fires.......Thanks Again hiramcook

I will watch more of your videos....Dave

  • Those were the days my friend. Heated up many a C ration with C-4. For fun we used to burn C-4 at the bottom of a cliff and drop big rocks on it. Got some nice bangs that way. LOL

  • Why would someone play $8 for that when you could make one for free?

  • Not everyone is handy with tools.

  • I think once you spent the time to make the stove then went to the hardware store to buy the wire cloth to make the pot stand (I'm sure you'ed have to buy a bigger piece then you'ed need) $8.00 sounds like a very fair deal. I couldn't make this stove in under an hour and it could take 2 if they were busy at the hardware store. It would be worth 8 bucks to me.

  • I have done several videos on the Trangia stove. Just go back through my list of old videos.

  • I want to see you try it with the mix the guy said use also with heet and see if it does better boil time seemed kind of slow to what you said the man said

  • Maybe is its just me but I can't wait 10mins for my water to boil 1.) because when I'm hungry, I want it done 11mins ago and 2.) because there are so many faster and still light weight options. Like that WetFire stove with the One-Match gel combo you did...now that's the way to go...light weight and fast.

  • But this stove does have the cost going in it's favor. One could buy several of this setup for the cost of one WetFire. Don't get me wrong, even though I'm not a gram weiny (sp?) I think the WetFire is a sweet stove. Plus this stove kit only weighs about 1.5 ounces.
