  • i love how she comes out of the rug

  • not for nothing, a quarter of a million people have viewed this after almost 50 years- the movies got it all and is much better than people give it credit for-

  • 3:30 where'd he get the cotton candy?

  • @MissCeo3000 LOL XD

  • Hammy utter Hollywood crap and rubbish

  • its small minded to argue the race of a person who lived so long ago... like it acually matters, one must correct the racisim in archeologies past however to get a true vision of the past, Her ethnicity was almost certianly mixed to some degree, although Royal bloodlines are kept by inbreeding, Egypt was multi cultural multi ethnic, people from all over the old world lived there for thousands of years, in those times one's ethnicity did not matter at all.

  • ruler of the upper regions...and of the lower regions...i cannot believe they would introduce a pharoah so :L

  • the pharoh kid is such a pansey ass

  • Is it me or is Caesar kinda cool?

  • @pierreg666 Rex Harrison as Caesar was the only actor in this cast who got nominated for an Oscar this year--Best Actor nomination

  • will someone make the kid .... i mean the pharoh shut up!!?!?!

  • ...an exalted rank, attained not without certain, shall we say, sacrifice. LMAO.

  • Thanks to the brave who uploaded this film. The twentieth century cinema wouldn't had been what it is without this movie.

    Gracias desde Mexico.

  • I want to punch the kid pharaoh in the face.

  • @Mokkari77 You and me both my friend.....You and me both

  • I havnt seen many Liz Taylor movies but this one is my favorite! This movie changed the world with its new view on sex, race, and the way movies are made. Elizabeth Taylor back then was fine as HELL! Its pretty sad that shes gone now The world has truly lost a legend. Rest In Peace Miss Taylor.

  • one side of her hair is longer then the other ....

  • the way she came out of that rug was so laame the scene in cleopatra 1999 was waaay better

  • @dacutegirl1 no it was a great scene

  • @dacutegirl1 ikr

  • The Ptolemy is annoying :P

  • Funny to see Romans and Egyptians speaking English!!! And an American Cleopatra!!!! Yet, Liz Taylor is beauuuuutiful.....!

  • i think it's all silly to worry about what color Cleopatra was. this isn't a historical documentary so let's all just enjoy the entertainment value, huh? i think more than half the allure of this movie was the backdrop affair of Burton and Taylor. that's where the magic comes from--- also from the larger than life tepestuous force that was Elizabeth Taylor. she lived her life and boy did she not give a damn what anyone thought about it. she was a gorgeous woman, no photoshop there...

  • epic movie

  • it doesn't make sense that the servants would be wearing the royal head dress...

  • i really don't think achillies, ceaser, and cleopatra were all around at the same time, were they?

  • @mrcheekycheeks Ceaser and Cleopatra ... yes they were in the same period of time ... if you mean achillies the Geek Hero ... No he was thousands of years before them.

  • @Thutmosis7

What I said aboutt he milk is that it is a natural skin whitener. So even if she did have a natural bit of colour in her, she would still look like a white person.

All the murals, statues, mosaics and depictions of Romans show plainly Caucasian people. Yes, some were not white like you were saying, but Cleo's lovers and her family appeared to be of Caucasian stock.

  • CLEOPATRA= WHITE

    NEFERTITI= BLACK

    POINT BLANK PERIOD!

  • thumbs up if you're watching this because this beautiful actress past away yesterday

  • @Thutmosis7

That is actually incorrect. Cleopatra and Arsinoe had different mothers. Also, it is a scientific fact that skulls are not good indicators of what race you are. That's why scientists at National Geographic had a hard time pinpointing his exact skin colour and instead chose one based on depictions of him.

Also, there is no conclusive evidence to show that the Ptolemies married or produced children with Native Egyptians. It's highly unlikely given how much they intermarried.

  • very sad day

  • farewell Liz The most beautiful woman in the world of all time. No one will be equal before and forever.

  • RIP Elisabeth Taylor!!

  • RIP Legend

  • RIP, Elizabeth Taylor.

  • I like Caesar, he gets right to the point.

  • So What? All that means is that she didn't say "Motherfucker" all the time, drink Schlitz Malt Liquor, or have really stupid looking hair!

  • that must suck having to carry someone around like that

  • i love dr hawass books! he is awsome!!! <3

  • that pharaoh is so fail..he should be killed

  • @TheJudgeMan1

If you read your history you would find out he did die.

  • Great movie. It;s funny how no one actually looks egyptian.

  • I hope Jolie's Cleopatra will focus more on Cleopatra the daughter, sister, monarch, intellectual, mother and philosopher and less on the bedroom.

  • Caesar was appalled when Pompey's head was brought to him, yet inside relieved cause no one could point a finger at him saying he killed Pompey.

  • For anyone interested, read Stacy Schiff's new book "Cleopatra A Life" Angelina Jolie's signed on to play the queen in a movie based off it.

  • Even if She was been of full Egyptian ancestry, Egyptians are a Mediterranean People- proved by paleo-archeol. paintings, sculpture engraving - a Mediterranean North Africa People for thousands of years.

Even King Tut much before and his family had R1b Iberian-Mediterranean-Western-European Y Cromossome (DNA Haplogroup.) They had also over the time People from South, North, West, East - more blacks or more Whites whatever.

Continents, Regions and Seas are geographies, not races.

  • I WANT THAT CAT

  • elizabeth taylor was so so gorgeous back then.she's one of my favourite actresses of all time along with vivien leigh, audrey, marilyn and some others...true legend <3

  • who cares

  • how do you watch anything.some of you worry about nothing but skin color.it's a movie

  • @SuggySug1 Just because Egypt is technically in Africa doesn't prove that Cleopatra was black.

  • Who is that chick playin' Cloepatra, people cloepatra was Black!

  • @SuggySug1 Actually Cleopatra was of greek blood. So no she was not 'black'

  • @birch241 Exactly what I said on the previous part! Well done!

  • @birch241 1 i heard that cleo`s mother was greek but her father was egyptian and he fled to rome because egypt hated him.

2, realistically speaking even if cleo was egyptian she wouldn`t be considerd black she would be considerd brown because of the culture and skin color

  • @younginspiration1

No. Her father was Macedonian like the rest of the Ptolemies. Cleopatra's mother is not known, but suspected to be Cleopatra V Tryphaena.

The Ptolemies did not marry the Native Egyptians, but preferred to marry their own siblings. The very few times they did not intermarry, they always did so with people outside of Egypt. Cleopatra's grandmother was Persian, and the Persians are white skinned people.

Also, the nobility of Egypt during their time was Macedonian.

  • @Thutmosis7

    If you say so.

I know that racism did not exist back then like it did, but classism, ethnic pride and which empire you were from did matter.

The Greeks today are multicultural people, but back then it was a lot more homogenous. The Ptolemies certainly fought to keep it that way.

And yes, MANY Persians I know and have seen with my own eyes and heard with my own ears are white-skinned. Look at Soraya Esfandiary. Many others also have differing shades of brown.

  • @Thutmosis7

They MAY have have been mixed, but given the Greeco-Romanic's culture of xenophobia... they would not have done so too often. The Romans were particularly xenophobic, so much so that marriage to a foreigner outside of the Empire was not recognised at all. If you look at their features in mosaics and sculptures, you will see caucasian or light olive-skinned people.

Also, there is nothing fully concrete to show that the remains found were actually of Cleopatra's sister, Arsinoe.

  • @Thutmosis7: You also make two unwarranted assumptions: 1. You assume that Elamite and Dravidian are related. This is possible but hardly proven. 2. You assume the Dravidians have always been the people they are today. It's possible that the Dravidians of southern India have mixed with darker skinned Australasian speakers still present in India. In any event, the Persians recounted by the Greeks--probably a disproportionate share of the nobility--often had light hair and eyes.

  • @Thutmosis7: The original people of Ur were Sumerians. What little we know about them suggests they looked much like modern denizens of the Mideast. The Persians proper spoke an Indo-European language like the Celts, Germans, most non-Dravidian Indians, Balts, Italics, Greeks, etc. We don't know much about the appearance of pre-Persian inhabitants of Iran, but DNA studies of Elamites indicate a preponderance of y-DNA haplotype J, common to groups like Jews and Arabs. Rudi Bakhtiar is not black.

  • @tommy9911 If the story of nimrod approve to be true. Then the bible is right. It claim nimrod was a kushite or ethiopian. He built babylon which is modern day iraq. The kushites are from modern day sudan/ethiopia. The semitic language actually origin in ethiopia/eritrea area. Not yemen or western arabia. It only prove that it was africans who came out of the nile valley and went up into mesopatamia and created civilization there. Until they were conquered by eurasian people from the north.

  • @Thutmosis7

I know they would have had different features than they have now, but even then they had white skinned Persians. Just look up pictures of Atoosa, daughter of Cyrus the Great. She is white. In fact, a lot of ancient murals and recent paintings of Persian history, show white or very light skinned people.

Also, in regards to Cleo's skin colour, remember, she took daily milk baths. Milk is a natural skin whitener. It wasn't fashionable int he Greco-Roman world to be tanned.

  • @Thutmosis7

Then why would the Royal Family of Persia and the nobility intermarry with those people who were not of true Persian stock? It was not done in any part of the world really.

And yes, the Greeks were Caucasian. They had pale olive skin and dark hair.

Also, historical records indicate that Cleo had reddish-brown hair and hazel eyes.

  • Not only do you get to watch a great epic movie w/2 of hollywoods most fascinating actors of their day. You can also read great comments left here by ethnologists&Egyptologists.

    thanks for uploading

  • Even i want to kill Cleopatras brother, he's so bratty!

  • @OutlawBee He drowned in the battle of the Nile trying to escape Caesar's army.

  • Pharoah seems like such a little whiner!

  • She was 21 years old, bold as brass, very deliberate and among the best educated people of her day. Here she petitions Caesar for sole right to rule in Egypt. He was 50 years old.

  • Ptolemy was not Greek! He was an Egyptian!

  • @holyvocation Except the Ptolemaic Dynasty WAS Hellenistic, meaning it was under great Greek influence after Alexander the Great's Macedonian Empire fell.

  • @holyvocation he was a greek by descent

  • Cleopatra looked at him as if saying "Bitch, I KNOW you just didn't do that!" (At least what I think)

  • Egyptians had black cats, not white ones.

  • @dashinvaine yeah, black and orange cats.

  • The Eunuch helper of Ptolemy is very gay acting, but then, chop chop and you act like a girl!

  • Ah, yes...Zahi Hawass, the Liberace of Archaeology!

  • Comment removed

  • well with the writing over the picture would surely detour youtube from removing the movie since it's no longer the original show

  • Kemet, (Khēmía) as also Dechret (red land - desert; as oposed and complementary to Kemet - along the Nile) as t3-mry(of the River), Ta-Mehew as Hight and Low Egypt Ta-Sheme'aw (land of the south and Delta)Ta-Mehew (land of the North) .

Libians-Berbers were white and are in North Africa for thousands and thousands of years along the Mediterranean- as other Peoples whatever is tone of color - in Eurasian and Afro-asiatic space.

  • As the Iberians were European(and if not part North African) but no nordics, as Celtic People were a pan-culture or spirituality of Peoples and not all reds or nordics or brown air on particular.

As around Africa and Mediterranean space were Peoples of many origins and colors, from dark to white.

  • Im sick of Racist white people trying to erase Black Africaness away from Kemet (Ancient Egypt)

  • I´m tired of losing my time with racist obsession bs wish you(and many) write or wrote.

Besides I need improve my english language - as my mother language is portuguese.

And for for the people wishdon´t like the movie, go see another one.

This is for this great movie - great cinema - the golden age.

    Thanks FridayNightMovieZ

  • I certainly hope real Egytians did not speak that way ! How come a film with such a budget did not have decent actors for its minor roles ?

  • The film belongs to its (no apostrophe - like his, or hers) owners. Thanks for posting.

  • Haha so many awesome lines!

    "There are doors...and doors..."

  • why does ptolemy have two oil filters hanging out of his head ?

  • uhhhhhhh this is really making me mad all these white people playin africans

    this is crazy

and then they have like 5 people playing the colors that everyone is suppose to be this is too much

o to top it off the tanned every body to make them look egyptian

  • "you must take me on a tour, someday, within the walls of your palace"

hehe, i know what that means

  • Elizabeth is so lovely as Cleopatra!

  • they are supposed to be roman, but they seam so british...

  • Daughter of Isis

  • It was indeed Pompey´s head. Plutarch and Suetonius said so. The Romans and Caesar were infuriated. This fact was why the Alexandria´s War begon. (Excuse my English.) Later Mark Antony and Cleopatra died one by suicide and the other by self-assisted murder. Like Caton. We must continue to study history...

  • 8:30 I find, one can tell more about the quality of the merchandise by examining the "back side" first.

  • @Applebaum

I live in Egypt and the majority of Egyptians have skin or color which means if Egypt was white then it was conquered by blacks. Or it means that Egypt was black and later conquered by whites which still explains why Egyptians have skin of color. If Whites owned Egypt or Africa they would have never left! They came, they went.

  • @Applebaum Africa, as Europe, Asia or Eurasia, is continent and space, not a race. This is in Mediterranean world.

  • @LusofoniaAsiaOceania

you can say whatever you want

    but

    Egypt is in Africa

Egyptians did not look like northern europeans

i hate these old silly films

  • @Applebaum Yes, I can say what I want and by the way, what it was!

Neither mediterraneans and around Mediterranean world, north, south and east, or at least many of them did not look like northern europeans or central africans.

  • But look like southern europeans, north africans, even with many near easterns etc. at least like many of them.

  • @LusofoniaAsiaOceania

Egyptians didnt look like Northern Europeans or Arabs etc etc

Egyptians looked like Africans with brown skin and curly or coily hair simple

  • @Applebaum Neither as central Africans. They look like modern Egyptians and all Berbers and all ancient North Africans - ancient Mediterranean and North African peoples.

  • @LusofoniaAsiaOceania

No Arabs & berbers hadnt invaded Egypt yet so no they did not look like them

    or Ancient Meditteraneans

Islam hadnt been invented either. The Egyptian Empire had already fallen by the time Berbers decided to invade that region.

Ancient Egyptians looked like Black people cos they were Black.

and furthermore Egypt was called Kemet in the time of the Pharoahs

people still want to deny their Black Africaness. Im not going to argue with you about it. Black people are diverse

  • FridayNightMovie

I give you a 5 stars for this Classic

  • Cleopatra as a very nice actress

  • what the hell is that in the pot at 3:47??

  • @inglouriousbasterd93 That would be Pompey's head.

  • and so much coin...

  • It's really quite sad. Some people have invested so much false pride in the misconceived notion that Cleopatra was black that any time anyone posts anything about the Egyptian queen inevitably the topic comes up. The tragedy is when another nation's grandeur is co-opted by another group in the hopes of enhancing itself. And I ask, are you all so historically bankrupt that you have to steal another culture's accomplishments in order to makes yourselves feel better?

  • You are of course absolutely right, DoctorMirabilis!

The historical evidence clearly indicates that the Greek Ptolemaic Dynasty inbreed with only their own kind and didn't mix with native Egyptians.

All the morons claiming here that Cleopatra might have been a "mulatto" or mixed should e-mail Dr. Zahi Hawass, one of the world's leading Egyptologists, and ask him what he thinks!

  • @PubliusQuintilius She could have been a mulatto because i read some where that her mother had egypitian army

  • @historytroy162 Where did you read that piece of pseudo-historical garbage? Cleopatra VII Philopator mother was Queen Cleopatra Tryphaena, wife and sister of Ptolemy XII Auletes.

  • @PubliusQuintilius The most recent discoveries show that Cleopatra might actually have had Egyptian blood. Her SISTER was part African. This means that Cleopatra's ancestors did indeed mix with the Egyptian people. What I don't get is why this is such a big deal. Blood or no, she was first and foremost Egyptian in heart. Source: BBC

  • @xjennaee Wait, you mean the so-called "discovery" of Arsinoe's skeleton in Ephesus and that the bones suggested that the younger sister of Cleopatra was of mixed race? Well, that "discovery" is nothing more than a piece of pseudo-scientific gibberish.

  • @xjennaee

First, Arsinoe was indeed supposed to have been murdered on the steps of the temple of Diana in Ephesus, and the Octagon (which was found in the 1920s) is a rather grand tomb which can be dated stylistically to the first century BC. But there is nothing more than that to link the tomb and the princess. There is no surviving name on the tomb and the claims that the shape was meant to evoke the shape of the lighthouse of Alexandria is just contrived supposition.

  • @xjennaee

Second, the skeleton itself doesn't survive intact. The crucial skull, on which the ethnic arguments are based, was lost in the second world war. The new conclusions (including a mock up of Arsinoe's face) rely on the measurements of the skull left by the first excavators. The remaining bones are said to be those of a 15-18 year old; when Arsinoe was in her mid-20s when she died.

  • @xjennaee

Third, skeletal measurements are not in any way a reliable indicator of race. To determine race/ethnicity, you need a DNA sample.

  • @officialknadatdeal You are delusional, pal. Cleopatra being "black" or "half black" is a modern African American myth! Cleopatra was not black, nor she was African or an Egyptian. She was Greek! And therefore Cleopatra being portrayed as white is entirely based upon historical fact. Along with ancient coins and statues that portray her as white, we also have the testimony of the roman poet Horace (65-8 BC) who wrote that Queen Cleopatra's skin was "as white as alabaster".

  • @officialknadatdeal Moreover, it is known that the Ptolemaic heirs were the products of incestuous Greek-Macedonian relationships aka WHITE European, not mixed blacks. This is well documented among the Ptolemies own records. Cleopatra's mother (Cleopatra Tryphaena) and paternal grandmother's heritage are well known. Her mother was her father's cousin and her paternal grandmother was her paternal grandfather's sister, both were of the Ptolemaic lineage.

  • @officialknadatdeal First, I'm not racist. I just don't like to see history hijacked by Afrocentric ideologues with an axe to grind. Second, the so-called "discovery" of Arsinoe's tomb in Ephesus has been rejected by every serious scholar for the following reasons: there is no surviving name on the tomb; the bones found are of a young girl in her teens, while Arsinoe was in her late twenties when she died; skull measurements are not a reliable indicator of race/ethnicity.
