They glow because of the ceramic. This car has carbon ceramic brakes which get hot quickly but can resist very high temperatures

(just like the ceramic of the oven), while providing great stopping power.

Only when you brake them hard though, like on a track. For regular driving normal brakes are still better.

Those brakes actually broke out in flames. I wouldn't feel comfortable in an SLR knowing it could catch fire that easily.
