I never got the "applauding at an orchestra is a bad thing" comments. They even did it for John Williams at the Oscars in 2002. As long as the performance is not being interrupted or disturbed, who cares? And who's to say what reaction is the right one? The Japanese consider making no applause, even during the credits of a film, to be a complement..

I take it you were born in 1973 than you attended elementary school at the age of 6 which brings us to 1979 . In that time he was composing themes for Superman(1979), SW-Empire Strikes Back(1980) and Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)! I really doubt he had time to teach elementary school.
