  • This period in time cannot be repeated.

  • Some of the lyrics remind me of the Sesame Street theme song.

  • WHAT a GREAT song! Thank you....

  • Ooooh, Davy! My first crush! I so remember this album(still have it!). Thanks so much for posting!

  • My fav song Davy sings without a doubt.

  • I had all their albums.... In fact the first one was just MONO - not Stereo yet!!

  • I still have this album.

    Thanks for the memories.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • There's no drums on this song. How about that?

  • @Bopalena there is a drum there, mickys using his whisking sticks ;)

  • so girl dont fight it and you,ll see, thats the next line

  • Umm, I'm pretty sure the lyric is "that loving me WILL make you high." Makes a little more sense, especially when you remember when the song was written.

  • I find it!!!! After years searchin I find this song!!!!

  • what's up with the baaaa sound messing up the start of the song???????????????

  • @groovyglitterglam :

    Here you go:

(That you're afraid of loving me)

    Just open up and let him in;

(But don't you fight it, and you'll see)

It's gonna to be a magic carpet ride,

(that loving me won't make you high)

So little girl now don't you run and hide.

  • I love Davy Jones

  • This was and still is a good song; colorful and creative. I'm reminded of much we played this album way back when.

  • The dual parts sung make this a very special song. It's also a really 'catchy' tune. The lyrics are great. You've just gotta love it. It's so nice to listen to something that sounds like music & has a meaningful message. I wouldn't expect anything less from Neil Sedaka & Carole Bayer Sager. Today's generation is 'clueless.' • @BundysHunney

Great comment and I have to agree.

  • Thanks for the post.

  • This song was knockin' around in my head when I woke up so I had to come here and listen to it. it's one of my favorites.

  • Cuando la beatlemania llegaba a su decadencia la nueva generacion de fans queria escuchar canciones frescas no tan fofisticadas y faciles de cantar, la propuesta de los Monkees fue aceptada y con mucho exito, esta es una de mis favoritas.

  • That's it ... I'm buying this cd. Had this album when I was a pre-tween, but I want it now again so I can sing along on long drives.

  • @MsThebeMoon

Yeah I special ordered it from RhinoRecords,it was clearly the best Monkees album as you can hear with this great Neil Sedaka song.

    Robert Nix Rock/Pop Artist

  • Still Can't get one of the lines, whats he singing? dont have to..........(and then i do'nt get it) ....and leave te past behind. What's between that??

  • @SuperMaayke

"throw off the chains that bind and leave the past behind"

  • Haha... Davy was my "first love" too. I was...about 11 years old, somwhere at the end of the 80's. Davy must have been in his 40's then...

    a Daydreambeliever

  • OMG..I always loved this song! So nice hearing it again! Davy was my "first love"..it didn't matter that I was 9 and he was twenty-something! Thanx so much for the great memory! :)

  • @Sunspree

I special ordered this CD from RhinoRecords,it was their best release.

    Robert Nix

  • great lyrics, highly underated the monkey songs were, great lyrics, bass lines,guitars,everything....glen campbell played some guitar, neil diamond and carole king wrote some songs for them...very highly respected people in music industry

  • Yes 'onthemove' PM was a blew a great bass, we tend to ignore the bass line unless its a great one like that or "Every breath you take", " Rhiannon" etc

I really love a great chord progression. Yellow Brick Road, You Light up my life, Tapioca Tundra, Papa Gene's blues etc

  • great bass line too

  • @AbsitInvidea

McCartney influenced bassline,McCartney really pioneered melodic rock electric bass playing.

  • @onthemoveagain

I think the guys at Motown were just as much of a pioneering influence in that regard. James Jamerson, to be exact.

  • unforgeteble !!!

  • That little boy never fails to make me squeal <3

  • replay to oblivion

  • the lyrics of this song, reminds me also of the lyrics of the song, 'Don't Stop' by the FleetwoodMac, leave the past behind, look forward, and when love comes knocking at the door, welcome it w/ an open arms

  • Groovy song!!!!!!!

  • but girl don't fight it and you'll see

that loving me will make you high

    but baby I

I know that you've been hurt before

but don't you be afraid no more

  • Great Track,it's as simple as that.

  • this is a great recored just listen The Monkees are GREAT XXXXXXXXX

  • I LOVE YOU DAVY.....I LOVE YOUR SWEET VOICE.....

  • Man I love this song!

First time hearing it and im on 1:12 =]

  • One of Neil Sedaka's best.

  • Brilliant audio well done, keep up the good work.

  • I took this album to "show and tell" in first grade the day after my mom bought it for me. I used to sleep with it under my pillow, too and dream about Davy...

  • mi epoca feliz de niño,carmen dios te acompañe y me cuide a mi,gracias

  • oops ...

it should be ... it's gonna be a magic carpet ride

    (that loving me won't make you high (NOT hide}

  • @BundysHunney

You don't have to give away all the lyrics, many of us like to figure them out on our own.

  • this is it ... end of it al, glitterglam;

Throw off the chains that bind

    And leave the past behind,

    No need to worry anymore

When love comes knockin' at your door,

At your door, at your door, at your door, Ah

    But don't you be afraid no more;

Throw off the chains that bind

    And leave the past behind,

When love comes knockin’' at your door.

  • To groovyglitterglam,

I have to agree w/ U. I also LOVE this song. A "fave." Davy Jones performed it at Epcot this Summer. Two people singing it this way is awesome. It's the BEST!

m1l2m3 didn't give U all of the words following that line. Some word are missing. I have them all. I'll have 2 put it in 2 or 3 comments b/c it's 2 many words & it wont' allow me to 'post' it..

When love comes knockin' at your door

    Just open up and let him in;

It's gonna be a magic carpet ride,

  • amazing. what great harmony

  • This is Rock Artist R.Nix-damn I love the chord changes and the basslines in this song-strong melody sung well(double tracked vocal)and yes little girl-don't be afraid no more...

  • My fave song from the Monkees.

  • What a great track written by Neil Sedaka and sung equally great by Davy Jones.

I have this CD in my collection-sound quality is fantastic.

  • but girl don't fight it and you'll see

  • The Wrecking Crew sounds great as always.

  • I am so excited! I will be going to San Francisco to catch Davy at the Razz Room. It's a small venue so it will be a real departure from seeing him with the other Monkees in a stadium from way in the back!

  • Love this song...I'm what you call a 3rd generation fan. Tried to sing the "call and response" part with a friend of mine--"I know...that you're afraid of loving me..." what's the next line? I just can't get it! BTW, saw the Monkees SEVEN TIMES in concert w/o Mike Nesmith...they did put on quite a show. Wish they would perform together again. If anyone knows that next line, please help me out.

  • @groovyglitterglam

But don't you fight it, and you'll see)

(that loving me won't make you high)

    (Cause baby I)

(I know that you've been hurt before)

(but don't you be afraid no more)

    you got it now?

  • @groovyglitterglam I think it's "but girl don't fight it and you'll see" :)

  • @groovyglitterglam ....this is how I've always sang it: I know...that you're afraid of loving me... but girl don't fight it and you'll see... that loving me will make ya high... cuz baby I... I know that you've been hurt before... but don't you be afraid no more....

  • @groovyglitterglam

    I know.

that you're afraid of loving me

but girl don't fight it and you'll see

that lovin' me will make you high

    'cause baby I

I know that you've been hurt before

but don't you be afraid no more

  • @groovyglitterglam the next line is 'but girl don't fight it and you'll see'

  • @groovyglitterglam (I know) / When love comes knocking at your door

(That you're afraid of loving me) / Just open up and let him in.

    (But girl, don't fight it and you'll see) / It's gonna be a magic carpet ride;

(That loving me will make you high) / So, little girl, now don't you run and hide.

    ('Cause, baby, I...) / You'll see a rainbow ev'ry day,

(I know that you've been hurt before) / The sun will shine in ev'ry way.

  • Monkees are the best!

I mean awesome songs............great looks.........talented.............they are the full package lol

  • I was only 10 in 1966 and I remember one day having a crush on Davy and the next

Mickey, I just couldn't make up my mind .

  • @liliaduran359 lol.... thats funny......

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE THE MONKEES!!!

  • I was a pre-teen when these guys were first popular...they got me through puberty! I had such a crush on Mickey back then...

  • Thanks so much for posting this clip - simply a great sound!

  • there were all these great bands around the same time as the Beatles even though the Beatles took it its nice to remember & listen to the other groups too

  • @Endlesslovekiss

My sister had this album on vinyl and I just special ordered the CD-the sound quality is much better than what you hear here.

The Monkees were given songs by some of the most talented writers in the 1960's,I think Lennon/McCartney were the only one's who didn't hand them anything-I have the remastered Beatles boxset-it's awesome.

I'm also a writer check out my channel.

    Cheers,

    onthemoveagain

  • O.M.Gosh i havent heard the Monkees in so long i first heard their music when i was a kid can u believe i got a free record of them off my cereal box wish i still had it my parents my have it somewhere in their attic?hee, hee but anway great song here!

  • Help me out. I saved this. Yet, all I get is the cover of album #2. Their JCP commercial. It actually showed the TV show. Even a quick glimpse of Davy on the drums. Is it possible to view this song being sung on that TV show episode? I don't understand how what I saved only shows the album cover when that's not the way I saved it. I truly love watching their sitcom antics.. Micky in his 'gold' poncho ...

  • I remember when I bought this album! And this song was my favorite and continues to be. Discovering it's a Sedaka song is a bonus!!

    Thanks for posting.

  • really cool song by the monkees

  • Brilliant fucking pop song and great vocals-'More Of The Monkess' is easily their best album.

  • To me this is the only song that it worths to listen by the monkees.

  • Classic, Sedaka and The Monkees!

  • First viewer. Yeah!

    Let's go Monkees!
