Smells like fish. User advanced to level 19 with only 130 lines. Shouldn't have happened on a NES til 190 lines. Artificially inflated score. Interesting that this user was strangely absent in the finals of the world tetris championship one year after this video was made where the winner scored just over half of the score supposedly achieved here.

@mudraker Nope, this is how it works. You must have never started at higher levels, or got enough lines on them. If you start on higher levels, the line requirement to advance changes. Try it.

@d2girls In this game, Levels 19-28 are the fastest speed that is indefinitely sustainable. Once you reach Level 29, the gravity restricts your play to the bottom few rows. The only feasible strategies for reaching Level 30 are to have a very tall stack and center gap going in, or to be able to tap left/right incredibly fast to exceed the default autorepeat rate of 10 moves per second.

Other Tetris games have mechanics such as lock delay or faster move speeds that make faster speeds possible.

Great game, and a great score. I love the older tetris games, they are so much better than the new ones (which come off a bit cheap and un-true to the original concept imho).

It was cool watching how you build "left", for me I have always built on the right side.

One thing that never gets old in the older games is watching the stats. So when your friend says "I just got bad pieces" you can claim BS pretty easily lol.

OK, color me thoroughly impressed! I have been playing Tetris ever since I could hold a controller, and never in my wildest dreams could I accomplish what you did. After playing for so long, I have discovered that part of the trick to this is luck, right? But I am in awe that someone could manuever the pieces after level 19! And never knew the game was meant to end at level 29. You learn something new every day.

You definitely improved since the 800k video. Most notably you now use both buttons to rotate pieces, so you never need more than 2 presses. And you now you T pieces to fill the 'tetris hole', which I didn't see you do in the 800k video. Great skills, i'm too slow and never got any further than 570k. I started at lvl 16.

Oh, to Matt03785. The NES version doesn't speed up much (if anything) from level 19 to 29. This is legit, there's a VHS recording too.
