  • I live in San Francisco and regularly take my bike on BART and head to Oakland as Oakland is real as compared to the tourists-dependent San Francisco. I'd easily move to Oakland but I live in the Outer Richmond across from Golden Gate Park and a couple minutes walk from Ocean Beach and, despite the fog, if you ever lived out in the Outer Richmond, you'd understand why I stay living there.

  • man. they make my city look so whitified ugh.show the nieghborhoods that gave oakland fame in the first place. west oakland eastoakland north oakland (Black Panthers) show huey p. newtons house where he grew up n as a a little kid

  • @8400king94 thats what im saying nigga representin the BAY nigga DB, DLO, Sleepy D the mob squad nigga

  • @ZinderZim on erythang nigga foe get why da bay famous in the first place smh

  • @8400king94, "whitified"? Oakland is NOT just "your city." Its very diverse population includes very rich, middle-class, and poor of all races (a whole lotta rich African-Americans live in the Oakland hills, btw). You mistake "fame" with infamy. White racism in postwar years gave rise to terrible ghettos, no doubt. But the Panthers and Newton were just a murderous, misogynistic gang decked out in Maoist drag. Oakland deserved better than the other side of to J Edgar Hoover's racist coin.

  • Great the see the positive side of this city. As always, something good comes with teh neglect of something bad. Its often too way easy to make Oakland look like a dump

  • Makes sense that the video would evoke good feelings. Only shows nighttime shots of terrain obviously west or east of the Lake. The video basically shows Montclair Hotel, Lake Merritt, Jack London, downtown, happy chlidren not thinking about their schools closing, public gatherings that mask a deeply segregated Oakland. Another ahistorical vision--where's the blight in recovery, where's the despair turning to hope. Not showing the hard stuff about Oakland renders the "good" stuff idealistic.

  • @MateoNumeroUno, uh, you're describing not Oakland, but every major city in the US. But no one sees LA or NYC as a mix between Mad Max and Foxy Brown the way most deluded (and not a little racist) whites and (apparently) African-Americans see Oakland. Talk about "ahistorical" vision.

All anyone shows about Oakland is the "hard stuff," mainly to let themselves off of the hook for THEIR own racist policies that spread blight and despair.

But Oakland has its beauty too, and deserves to show it.

  • This is a wonderful video and it highlights everything I love about Oakland. I'm sending it to my sister in Atlanta to persuade her to visit me.

  • WOW! I see why you love Oakland. Hope to see you soon. Mary

  • hi!

can you tell me a bigger computer store in Oakland which has a lot of notebooks?

    thanks

  • This is a. fantastic!

Everything I love about this city is shown here. Thanks for posting it. Anytime anyone says anything negative about Oakland, I'd like to show them this footage.

Bravo and kudos to the videographer(s)!!
