Lol, all the Britney hate comments make me laugh. Can't you just enjoy the music? You can't say what someone else listens to sucks as a whole just because it sucks to you. Music is in the ears of the beholder.

Ok I love Britney Spears (don't get me wrong, love me some Cher too), and I love both versions, but you can't even compare them. They're entirely different songs. There's only like 4 or 5 phrases of lyrics that are the same, the instrumentation is only slightly similar. They barely sound alike. I can't even say I prefer one version over the other because to me, Britney's version is more of a interpolation than a cover. And I love Britney, but to say she could top Cher is just plain stupid :)
When I heard this song in Britney Spears's album years ago I was sure it was a cover of an earlier song and just now I'm finding this one out..
Britney's version is way better.. but what I don't understand is that tendency to receive a massive hostile reaction everytime someone expresses an opinion about a modern song or singer being better than ones from past decades..
@UntakenNick, don't be ridiculous. In the first place, the audio is a bit degraded here. Second, this is not the official Sonny & Cher version, but just something thrown together for their weekly television show. So you're not even comparing the right thing. Third, there's no way Britney's version is better than the original, official S&C version. NO way. Fourth, Cher is a legend who's been around 50 years. I kind of doubt we'll be seeing much of Britney even 10 years from now.
Britney's success has to do more with being surrounded by dancers and choreography and sound engineers manipulating her voice in the studio. Cher earned her cred the old fashioned way: sheer hard word and unique talent.
I wish the original Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour was available to purchase on DVD so we could enjoy it more ... I miss those days. They were good, funny, and the kid was a shy kid watching parents work hard.

Sonny and Cher always had such amazing chemistry between them. Even when they reunited on Letterman - years after they'd been divorced - the chemistry was still there. Still palpable. I believe they never stopped loving each other despite their problems. I used to love the way they looked at each other when they sang. Part of the act or not, you cannot fake the chemistry that exudes from those looks and touches they give one another.
She was very shy and introverted when they met. He knew a ton of people and got her a job doing back ground vocals at a label until she was ready to roll. He made her...knew he lacked singing skills and signed on for the tv show. He was a very smart man.

Cher had a lovely voice and was, well, easy on the eyes. It never really came across very well, but Sonny Bono was a very smart man who knew the business long before Cher came into the picture. He has already written a couple of hits before he met Cher.
Strange for me, because I usually don't like english music --too many things hold me away... Anyway, I admit I like the sound and the rythm of this couple. But I can also understand that, with such a smoothly rolling music, they couldn't go very far in the rebelious era of the 60's.

I remember growing up watching Sonny and Cher and I enjoyed this and other videos I have seen. I loved the show and enjoyed their music and still laugh at Sonny's big fur vests. When he switched to suits he looked better but Cher always looked good. I stopped following them when they split up but she has had a phenomenal carer.
I was a high school student back in the 1960s when "The Beat Goes On" rocked the radio airwaves. For those who wish they could have lived back in the day, it was fun but time changes some things. Radio music has definitely changed. Internet with YouTube was totally missing. I am glad for these though, I get to live those days again. Oh, the beat still goes on and on and on.........(world events, I mean).

I remember growing up watching Sonny and Cher and I enjoyed this and other videos I have seen. I loved the show and enjoyed their music and still laugh at Sonny's big fur vests. When he switched to suits he looked better but Cher always looked good. I stopped following them when they split up but she has had a phenomenal carer.

I was a high school student back in the 1960s when "The Beat Goes On" rocked the radio airwaves. For those who wish they could have lived back in the day, it was fun but time changes some things. Radio music has definitely changed. Internet with YouTube was totally missing. I am glad for these though, I get to live those days again. Oh, the beat still goes on and on and on.........(world events, I mean).

@SS421982 I don't know why they pull the videos. If anything, it gives S&C exposure to people that otherwise would never see and appreciate their stuff. It helps them, not hurts them.....
