  • taxxxx the rich...

  • @iGotUrSwineola Anyone who believes in trick down economics is a dumb ass anyways. Their is no evidence for that system actually working.

  • Yes tax the rich, do you think that someone with say 10 million dollars would really miss 5 million of it? would they really suffer?. The main arguament of Rich people is that they pay most of the tax, well no shit, you have most of the money you jack asses. The real problem is the federal reserve, they have devalued your money so badly, abolish it and even the poor will be better off and you can tax more fairly.

  • @MrROTD are u stupid. if someone has 10 mill and they take 5 mill, ur saying they wouldnt miss it? how stupid can u get. that is half their money gone.and are u suffering? i bet ur not. maybe u shud take a trip to sri lanka, see how it is there..maybe if u weren't a looser in school u could be one of us rich folks

  • If the rich would just go to real capitalist countries. And enterpreneer over there, then socialist countries would suffer. They suffer already from it. And they deserve it. I also don't care if people in communist counties are poor, really I don't.

  • TAKE THAT FUCKING BILLIONAIRE MONEY AWAY! MERIDITH "PUNISHING THE RICH"? TSK TSK. THEY HAVE IT, SO TAKE THAT SHIT. HOW CAN I PAY MORE TAXES? I DONT MAKE MORE THAN 15K A YR!

  • YEAH YEAH!

  • the top 25% of the rich americans pay 86% of all income taxes. why in the hell would it be a good idea to tax the rich more?

  • @lambofwassy2 he means like 2% like gates, buffet, etc

  • @istraight1 ok my previous comments are the actual facts, go look it up yourself

  • @lambofwassy2 i did i found the rich taking more since the 80's and the coperation bribing the congress

  • @istraight1 86% of all income taxes are paid by the 25% richest people in america. the rich are the business owners, the rich need to pay their employees, the rich cant do that if they are getting taxed to death. do you follow dumbass?

  • @lambofwassy2 hey jackass before you say anthing more stupid the top 1% percent or billionaires own 43% of america wealth. where do you get your information from fox news

  • @istraight1 ya so what if they own 43% of american wealth. the rich want their empyoyees to be paid at a good rate because if they quit the rich lose their money. dumbass. oh and my resource? Rush Limbaughs website

  • @lambofwassy2 i do agree they employee chinese in china dumbass. you are more stupid then i thought if you believe Rush Limbaughs your more stupid then him

  • @istraight1 The government employ chinese in china but all that does is increase taxes go to hell you anti-american communist

  • @istraight1 you are a flaming liberal and a moron

  • @lambofwassy2 when conservatives have no other option you just insult. your just fascist warmonger

  • @istraight1 Rush Limbaugh is using the numbers straight from the Treasury dept report, look it up. If you check out the report you'll see The top 25% pay 82.9% of our taxes and the top 50% earners pay 96.03% of all income taxes. The bottom 50% pay 3.97% of all taxes!!! That equates to 50% paying only 4 dollars out of every 100 dollars in taxes. So why is it you think the rich should pay more? I think they pay enough now. Instead of bickering over taxes we should be cutting government spending.

  • @fluttervalve Rich people that act like victims are assholes, if I had 10 million dollars and half was taken for the good of everyone then how much do I suffer? not much. Take half of my money now and I'm on the street, big difference. All the rich can kiss my ass, you are not going to suffer like low income or middle class, tax laws ensure that . fuck off with the "earned" it BS, most rich people didnt earn it, they manipulated money at everyone elses expense, jerk!!!

  • The people who shout 'tax the rich' can't seem to understand that our economy is linked. If you raise taxes on business owners the burden gets passed right back to worker in the form of lost jobs and increased price of goods. You're taxing yourselves.

  • @AnduinX the conservatives also forget in 50's and 60's tax were higher and economy was better.

  • @istraight1: I hope you're not implying that higher taxes makes the economy healthier. What you've pointed out would only mean something if taxes were the primary factor at play. Also, on a side note modern tax rates are deceptive because our modern government gets their money through a combination of taxation and printing out whatever they need. When the government prints money to spend it amounts to an indirect tax on us by devaluing the dollar.

  • @AnduinX i hope your implied lower tax either look what gave us the rich having more just the 2% billionaires and lower taxes on middle class that really need. the rich are taking more and leaving the middle class screwed

  • @istraight1: No, we need lower taxes for everybody, even 'the rich'. How can you expect job growth in the private sector when you tax business owners (small and large alike). Job growth is profit driven! If you tax genuine businesses to the breaking point of course you'll destroy jobs, raise prices, and stifle recovery. The super-rich (not small business owners) are a mere subset of this group, and they're largely untouchable because they can keep their money and 'income' overseas.

  • @AnduinX we need to tax the rich. since the 80's the rich (huge coperation) had taken more then they need. if we tax the rich the deficit will go down. we need tax cut only for middle class. the rich are not even hiring and sending jobs to china

  • I make more than 250K. Every time my taxes go up I lay off one more person. I have laid off three now. I am laying off another one next week. My life stays the same: fuck you.

  • @chance1234asdf Awesome :)

  • @chance1234asdf or meby you will have to hire more to make up for your loses and make more production?

  • @chance1234asdf I love rich people. To find money where it is (namely from the rich), is just wrong. They have the right to live their lives with all the benefits of their labor, success and position. That's a part of liberty. I live in Europe, Belgium. Very socialist. People pay up to 70%. I study engineering, because I hear engineers are needed. And I'm not gonna stay in this shithole. Maybe I come to the USA, but if Obama goes a little to far, I will be somewhere in Asia.

  • @YouBetterThink ome to Canada! well Alberta or SASK

  • @chance1234asdf

    Hang your head in shame...

  • @chance1234asdf I'm Bill Gates and I laugh at 250k hahahahaha

  • The rich have always been taxed high, under FDR they were taxed over 90% of their income. The rich have had tax breaks since Regan and he pretty much destroyed America.

It would not be unreasonable to raise the highest tax bracket to around 60-70% of their income.

  • @OperatorTime08 FDR kept the country down, WW2 brought us out of the Depression not stupid social programs. Make it a flat tax so its equal all the way around.

  • @mikethebassguy no that would be fair fdr kept country up that conservative lies. those who make more pay more like 50 and 60 most conservatives forget there offshoring our jobs and lower the deficit.

  • There is no such thing as a 'blue dog Democrat.' All Democrats are pro-death, all Democrats support abortion and all Democrats support increased government interference in our daily lives. This "healthcare reform bill" displays what I have said and it is unfortunate for those who bought into this 'hope and change' crap for they will discover this the hard way.

  • The middle class are getting bled while the rich have an army of lawyers and loopholes to assure they pay an extremely low tax rate. its bullshit and as usual the students are the first to sniff it out and raise cane. Essentially taxing the poor students because the rich dont want to pay more than their 17% real tax rate. Yes total bullshit. Go students!

  • I know Obama is trying to look after America but he is doing it the wrong way. {Independent point of view}

1.The work force drives wealth, rich people owe their money to the workforce.

    2. Healthcare- If both political parties are enemies then harmony cannot be established in Washington, thus creating hell for Americans when the other political party takes office.

    3. Banks- Banks are our life support, which is why Banks are a big deal in any economy. {We have to protect are banks}

  • 4. Lobbyist- I dont know much about lobbyist but I think that they contribute to America for the better of things when they are not being greedy with money.

    5. Schools- All schools shouldnt get a limit on how much money they get, it is your child who is being taught.

    {I pretty much said what I wanted to say in a independent point of view}

    {Americans need a independent political party}

  • Im saying this as if I was a rich person with money in America.

Middle class Americans, do not give me taxes. My money gives you jobs, food, cell phones, cars, entertainment, school items, medical care and more. I spend enough money as it is already providing the things you want. If you take my hard earned money away with high taxes then I will stop taking care of you. I help you hard enough already, go after the rich folks who lust over their wealth.

  • Raise my taxes=fewer employees

Raise my taxes=higher medical deductible for the rest.

Raise my taxes=increased cost of my services and products.

Get a clue "poor" and "middle class" people...any tax is a tax on you. Do you really think I'm going to work 60-80hrs a week managing my locations and pay 16 million in liability insurance yearly and pay increased taxes out of my own wallet? That's funny.

  • Jobedied- Someone who is poor works 10 times harder than someone who is rich?? Yeah, all those rich people got rich by not working..... Wealth is not a crap shoot for most people, like liberals think. Sure some are trust fund babies, but most rich people went to school, worked hard, and sacrificed a lot to become rich and successful. You didn't do that, so now it's ok to tell those people "you worked hard to be successful, now you have to pay for those who don't try as hard". Ludicrous.

  • We rich people have a dirty little secret.... we don't pay any taxes! God bless the working stiff! Yeehaw!

  • My reasoning seems valid if you are 6 feet tall and chop 10% of your height at the feet you have stumps below the knee. If your four feet tall chop off 10% you are still below the knee. Proportion may not seem fair when someone makes 10 times more than someone else. And some folks on the low end will work harder in one year than some rich folks their whole lives. But the tax code so favors the rich now with investment loop holes that proportional equity has to be much better than what we got.

  • How about creating an even tax % on everyone's income you make a million a year you pay the same % as someone who makes 50 thousand everybody pays same % corporations pay an even % on profits. You will never see equal tax rate that would not punish anyone any more than anyone else . Getting a flat rate across the board this will never happen elitism and political influence will destroy us. Greedy politically powerful people hate America. I do not want the rich taxed any more than me the same.

  • Your reasoning isn't valid. Wealthy people can earn additional money more easily than poor people. This is because they can invest a larger portion of their existing money, and also because wage increases come more easily for people already making 6 figures (it is far easier for someone to go from 100k to 200k than it is to go from 50k to 100k). Not to mention that the value of your work is decided by the market and your pay isn't directly proportional to the work you do.

  • Here is a much better idea, quit paying for abortions, quit these moronic lawsuits against doctors. Get rid of all illegal imigrants, and stop paying there health care, food stamps, stop giving them wealthfare, sociol security. Look at the money we save, now we can use that money to pay our health care.

  • Here is what the mainstream media is not saying. When Bush was in office, he had the highest job increase of any US President, and he had the highest ratio of Job increase to job lost. Here is another fact, what was able to create most of the jobs was Bush tax breaks to the rich. So if Bush did not give the tax break to the rich, maybe just maybe you would not even have a job. Just think about that.

  • the rich should collectivly pay more. they are wealthy using up the earths resources building businesses, covering up swampland, going on vacations, yes working but for all that good fortune you would think they'd be thankfull. but i can see alot dont feel that way it's like just because you got rich now you're the only one who's worthy n that's not fare to there employee's or society.

  • Let's put it this way, I do not want my hard earn tax dollars paying for the health care of people who don't even work. There are not enough rich people to pay for the health care for everyone.

  • Many people became wealthy by providing products or services that people want or need. They took risks, many worked hard and succeeded while also providing employment in their communities. My Uncle did it that way and I am proud of him.

  • Taxes always fall on the middle class--always

  • The super rich dont pay taxes they always find a way to get out of it.

  • It will not work. Putting a higher tax on rich is wrong. I am not rich, but most of them do earn the money they make.

  • you are fuckin stupid! seriously they do not work the hardest the grunts at the bottom do that help them get rich. plus how are you gonna tax the poor of which is already broke? you can't get blood from turnips. plus taxing is only a portion of whats earned, you n the other rich defenders sound like they take it all which is a total obvious lie. if you're wealthy and too stupid to higher an accounted if you don't want to do taxes then you deserve to lose your money. so pay tax or face the crime

  • Successful people take risks, many invest all they have in an idea and push hard to make it work. They surround themselves with the people who can help them succeeed by compensating them for their time and talents. We are all free to try our hand at it--however most people don't.

  • Maybe your're the one who is stupid. These CEO's only make about at average a very small percentage profit. When you buy a product, only a very small percentage is their profit. Most cases, the only reason why there is high profit is there is high consumption. 99 percent of the time, high consumption results in high profit.

  • omg! you full of shit. the ceo at our own local energy company scored million dollar bonuses. so what you still have to get money to pay for services somewhere and you'r saying the people have more money then the rich huh? you're dumb.

  • You are not getting it. The only reason why these people have high profits is their high comsumption. It is only like 2 or 3 percent at the most profit. Now because of alot of customers, that adds to a million. Even if the CEO forfiets all profits, that will not lower the price. Same with the oil companies. Taxing the rich is not the answer.

  • maybe you better stop listening to Micheal Moron. Taxing the rich, is not the answer. Even if the CEO's give up all their profits, that will not help the economy not one bit, and will not bring down any prices.

  • As of 2007, the top 10% in the US pays over 71% of the income taxes in the United States. The bottom 50% pays less than 3% of the income taxes collected.

They've already soaked the rich. The taxes will be regressive and affect the middle class proportionally worse than the rich.

You're cutting off your face to spite your nose!

  • you are full of shit dude. the rich should pay more. hello they are the ones with the money and it's only a portion not the whole damn pie like people like you make it out to be. i myself like helping the sick, fixing roads, highering plenty of figher fighters n police. the rich that dont want to pay taxes must be too stpuid to higher an accountant apparently.

  • i'll cut the face of rich off you dont like us n want to move? we dont need you at all audios rich ungreatfull bastards!

  • my answer.....Y.E.S.!

  • I like your username

good to see others know who to blame for this shitty economy

  • hate to tell you this, but i'm a lefty not a conservative or libertarian

  • ...it's called sarcasm you moron

proving once again just how stupid you people are

  • Stop giving 15 Billion a year, and instead use it on Healthcare.

  • Riches come from luck as much as hard work, intelligence, etc. I see no issue with taxing the rich more to help out the unlucky. Individuals have to deal with luck, good or bad, but societies needn't, and society is hurt when the wealth divide is a large as ours is right now (not least because money corrupts politics).

I'm constantly amazed at how many people would defend to the death Paris Hilton's right to 'be a hard worker' (LOL).

  • Dan Mitchell: King of the mixed metaphors

  • Why does the RealNews NW interview a fantasy economist like Wolff?

  • 666 il name 1 my country britain our health has problems oviously to many immergriants suckin the life out of our health system but all in all its ok, it works and we run ok america should do the same

  • government run health care is one of the worst ideas ever devised by man. I think the Question that everyone needs to ask themselves is. Name one thing that the government does well? because i cant think of one thing outside of destroying the economy and undermining the peoples civil liberties. on the other hand i can think of tons of things the liberated areas of the free market does well. so why is that everyone wants the self serving idiots in washington determining what you do and dont need

  • in conclusion to hell with socialism/fascism and up with free market economics.

  • Are you talking about government run insurance or full-blown socialized medicine?

  • government run anything is a bad idea thats what im saying

  • Yeah 666 you're right ! No government regulation, financial crisis is fun !

  • The argument has never been about no regulation vs. unlimited regulation, but it is over limited regulation vs. unlimited regulation.

Government should regulate to prevent force and fraud, and nothing else. Leftists want to regulate business far beyond that. They want to tell business what to produce, how to produce, and how much to charge for it.

The leftist approach is crazy, on grounds of elementary economics.

  • well i totally agree, however Conservative, is a terrible thing to call a classical liberal, on the grounds that conserving something implies keeping things the same, I have no desire to keep things the same, I have the desire to see civil liberties expanded upon in all areas and governmental intrusion reduced in all areas. both socially and economically

  • well my dear friend, it was the government "regulators" who created the whole mess to begin with. so giving them more power is obviously not a wise decision. it wasnt the fault of the investors that the Fed created a massive economic bubble and they were fooled into investing in bad assets its the fault of the FED. so yes free markets are a good thing where as once again government authoritarianism fails miserably

  • Comment removed

  • Taxing businesses to provide medical security for the poor, would be like government declaring poverty a crime, makes NO sense.

  • Blue Dogs are bought and paid for democrats

  • I think capitalism only works when there is a cap to how rich somebody can get. How does somebody who is receiving a free ride from the government any less likely to work than somebody who is intimidated by how far behind he is in the system?

  • Of course as a less rich person you are the one that will be receiving part of the excess riches. But because you are morally a superior person you will still work as if you did not get the money.

    You make me sick

  • You realize how these riches developed in the first place right? Oppression you moral moron.

  • Does Bill Gates oppress you? Did Madonna put a knife on your throat to buy her cds? How is imposing a tax on a special group of people not oppresion? If someone uses force against you to take your money then go after that person.

  • It is not about who oppresses me or Bill Gates or Madonna. The people you are naming are also celebrities. You are discussing morals yet you don't even want to have a gist of world history. Things like wealth and other products are not created by who works harder but by using others work. There would be no "civilization" without oppression. Wealth is in the places they are right now mostly because of Western Europe's imperialism and slavery not because of Madonna or Bill Gates.

  • Look at all the people trying to get into our imperialistic country so they can be oppressed by wealthy elites!

  • They are oppressed more by our wealthy elites if they stay in their country.

  • I'm sure there are wealthy elites already there in their countries to help us out with the oppressing activities. With so many people in the World, we need help to get to all of them to oppress them properly.

  • It's all about how much others can do for you. How do you think filthy rich stay rich? I am not saying it is a good or bad thing. The machine of civilization has always been fueled by oppression. Where would we be without New World Slavery? Often the oppression has been backwards and useless. There are great people that come out of the messes and help guild Civilization. Gandhi, Einstein, Professors, Innovators. Oppression destroys the seeds of great people or sages. Its a philosophy in the work

  • asalade, if gates or madonna have a billion dollars what is 5 million to them. what a nickel probably is to you. and second point ever hear of the greater good. or a little self sacrifice.

  • how could you miss his point..providing is not "giving" . Providing just means equal access. Equal access without the interference of sociopathic parasites like banks and insurance companies, who are not interested in the wealth of the country. They are only interested in themselves. I know it's hard to believe but, you can make money and do the right thing too. It's not an either or.

  • It's very easy to believe that you can make money and do the right thing. It can be done in a free market where the baker, while pursuing his own selfish interest in wealth, still provides for a public service.

Taxation of the rich does not provide in a public interest but rewards laziness, halts productivity and corrupts the people.

It's the pursue of happiness, which is for many people having a good health, that gives people the desire to work and produce.

  • I agree. Perhaps the need for this income/benefits should lead to the desire to work. Or at least... that's how it used to be.

  • I think some people that can afford good health insurance that most people cant are afraid is because they think they will loose the premium care they can get. I believe in capitalism but I think there should be some things in a society that are none for profit like police. What I dont understand is how some people that are not doctors or nurses make money from insurance, that is part of the wast. A corporation should not run insurance because buisness men make money without curing anyone.

  • 000deadcalm000, The top 5% pays 60% of all taxes, and government accounts for ~37% accounts of GDP. 60% of 37% is 22%. The debt financing included in this figure is backed by the top 5%'s ability to pay off our T-bills/bonds.

America has one of the most progressive tax structures in the world already (mostly because we don't have a VAT like European countries.) We have a large drop in our gini coefficient before and after taxes relative to other nations.

  • Could you reference your source for figures you've given?

  • In the last 30 years in the United States, the top 10% of earners has taken in 90% of all of the wealth our country has generated.

  • I know. Scandalous, right? But try explaining it to these yahoos who are steal repeating the same shrill nonsense from their elementary history books.

  • Over 1/5 of the US economy is already tax money collected from the top 5% being spent out by the government. In fact, American wealth redistribution is already the largest single industry inside of the US.

What do you guys want, 1/3 of our economy being based on wealth redistribution? 1/2 of it?

  • jtuck1234, Complete and utter horseshit. If you want to make rediculous claims like this at least post a link to something to back crap like that up. Last year in the US, the top10% of the population, accrued 49.8% of the nations generated wealth.

    Source: CNN

go to cnn and do a search.

Never before has there been such a massive redistribution of wealth to the most wealthy of it's citizens, as is taking place in the US right now. FACT

  • yes tax the rich, they already got enough, and I had to pay for their kids school, and roads, and police and fire services (through my taxes). So why not?

  • The rich are the fucking parasites you Cato Institute douchenozzle!

  • Corporations manipulate everything in our society. The people who run them and own them are the problem. You have some politicians that have a lifetime net worth in the hundreds of thousands; that's nothing. Politicians come and go, but corporations manipulate everything, including so called progressive websites. The same people who claim President Obama is in bed with big business, now claim he is wrong for wanting to tax the rich. Which one is it? He's getting attacked by Fox News. Why?

  • EAT THE RICH !!!

  • So, the mass of people working makes a country wealthy? Ask China, that has more than 3 times our population and less than 1/3 of our GDP

  • Just say no to gov run health care. You can blame the gov for the mess it's already caused. Why in the world would you want more of the same?!

  • Who is that idiot they show on that Fox news program talking about the parasite needing a host? He gets it all wrong. The rich are the parasite feeding on the host of the general public. As Michael Parenti says, "Wealth creates poverty." That idiot has it all backward. And that lady on the Today show is obtuse, as well: the "punishing the rich" is idiotic because the rich get rich by screwing the poor. Thanks you Real News for the good work you do!

  • don't be fooled, this repeats the Nazi eugenics program and will secretly bail out the abortion industry... :(

  • This is good. Finally those rich cock suckers are actually gonna have to help someone other than themselves. The rich people that live in 3 story houses and ride their yacht dont wanna help anyone else. while the rest of us are living pay check to paycheck.

and this guy said global wealth comes from people being educated .... hes wrong. there are always people that will be better off than someone else. Some people are simply better with money than other people

    gotta spread the wealth >.>

  • Whats preventing you from being rich, steveo? Have you been held back by rich people? Do you not have opportunities to improve your lot?

Likely, the answer is you don't know HOW to make that kind of money and you don't possess any skill that someone is willing to pay big money for.

Your response sounds incredibly envious and that leads you to believe taking money from people that have it so you can use it is somehow justified. People like you would rather steal money than compete for it.

  • even if i was educated enough to be a successful business man there would always be someone else that is better than me and if there are tons of people that are better then me i would still be poor because the people at the top have 90% of the money rich people can afford to pay more taxxes. the pour people cant afford it. if the poor pay more taxxes they gotta cut back on how much food they buy or sacrifice something else. Your a fucking dick if you dont believe in what they are saying

  • Steveo:

That has nothing to do with the "Rich" and everything to do with Central Economic Planning headed by the Central Banks ( in the U.S., it's the Federal Reserve )

They cause to booms and busts, give handouts to corporations and so forth.

You say " If you tax the poor, they won't be able to buy food "

If you tax the rich, they wont be able to hire the poor who need the job to buy the food.

It's a double edged sword but I recommend you study how the Central Banks work in the societies.

  • double edge sword ?! wtf are you talking about. maybe the rich jew fucker might have to suffer without buying a new corvette this year and wait a few more months.

This is why i dont even wanna live on this earth anymore nevermind helping the world

  • I would like to know WHO pays for, and what health plan you friggen Congress and Senate assholes have? Oh that is right, WE, the American people PAY for your fucking insurance!

So why make a new plan? Why not just add all the American people to the plan WE pay for, for YOU lazy, greedy selfish assholes?

  • I still don't understand how this health care reform works. There's a health care insurance brokerage system, pay more/less depending on your level of household income.... and?

  • I just don't understand people who don't support high taxes on the wealthy landed gentry who don't give a fuck about the majority of average people like any single person who sees this comment...

  • Because I would rather end the land monopolies and the monopolies like the money creation monopoly that is a privilege given by the state then use a tax to steal from non aggressing people and aggressing people.

  • this whole comversation smacks of class-warfare. This is not how a Constitutional Republic works. Taking from one group of people and giving it to another whether its Liberty e.g. making slaves work for you or Property e.g. taking from the rich...is not equal justice for all.

  • Socialists and communists are delusional. There are plenty of other places to live....walk it like you talk it.

  • Assuming you're a 'less guvmint' teabagger...

Perhaps you should walk it like you talk it yourself and move to a country with a small or powerless government like, say, Somalia.

  • Less government has never meant less powerful. In todays day a few nukes is what makes you powerful. Having a smaller goverment means less burden on its people to support such a government so they are more free to choose how they spend there money instead of politicians spending someone elses money. Money gets spent best by those who earned it not took it.

  • Right! Small government and limited government are not the same thing. Leftists often err by conflating the two.

  • Let me rephrase my suggestion...

Dear teabagger, perhaps you should walk it like you talk it yourself and move to a country with a LIMITED government, whatever and wherever that is.

Money gets spent best by those who earned it not took it?

I will go you one further: wealth is spent best by those who produce it.

  • Yeah, that's right. Wealth is best spent by those who produce it. You're a Capitalist. Nice.

Now as for volunteering producing wealth but not profit, well, that's wrong. Volunteers just give all the profit to the person they volunteer for.

  • "Wealth is best spent by those who produce it. You're a Capitalist."

    hahaha

You're either very naïve about capitalism or very ignorant of the workings of the economy.

And no, Tense, volunteers give their wealth, not their profit. There's no profit there, don't confuse things.

  • I'm neither naive nor ignorant. Thank you very much.

If you mean that the main economic system isn't Capitalism, then OK, that's true. But the idea that wealth is best owned and spent by producers of the wealth - that is a distinctively Capitalist notion.

Volunteers give both wealth and profit. The wealth is best used somewhere else, else the volunteer wouldn't give it in the first place. The difference in value created by moving wealth by voluntary action is profit. Pure and simple.

  • To have workers you need to have entrepreneurs. People who will be prepared to risk everything they have. Punish them and they will constrain that risk taking and therefore job creation.

Workers are of no use even with the best tools if they are not making stuff people want and are not organized by entrepreneurs to innovate a way of making that effort profitable.

Kill entrepreneurs and the economy dies with them.

  • Uh, no.

Private enterprise is ONE way to create wealth.

Even in a market-oriented economy, public servants like teachers, police officers, etc create wealth with no (private) entrepreneurial involvement. But no company creates anything without workers - unless the 'entrepreneur' doubles as its single worker (self-employed).

One more thing: in order for work to become wealth, it doesn't have to be profitable - it needs to be in demand. Voluntary work creates wealth, but is not profitable. ;)

  • "Voluntary work creates wealth, but is not profitable."

That might be true, but to sustainably create that wealth it must be profitable. Unrewarded voluntary work is not a means to survive in the long term and provides no feed back information to ensure that effort is best applied to need.

It is true that work requires workers but we discount at our peril the required reward for risk taking.

Entrepreneurial involvement can be involved in teaching, police, etc. and is, and should.

  • Except that you are being completely misleading with that statement. Entrepreneurs do not control the mass amount of wealth. Corporations do, any the do so by hiring cheap foreign labor. Increase tariffs, and tax the rich.

  • What do you have against poor people ..."cheap foreign labour"?

Why don't you want to buy and sell goods to poor people...."tariffs"?

Corporations are just groups of people. The problems arise when we mix business and politics (fascism).

  • Entrepreneurs do not control wealth, they CREATE wealth. When you create a better tractor that allows farms to produce 10% more food, your stuff sells well. After a while all farmers have 10% more free time or 10% more produce. Prices for food go down. This is what happens, but life isn't like this because we eat more inflation than we do innovation now. And so many rules are in place to stall, stop or halt people with ideas. MrMP81 is exactly correct.

  • so "the rich pay for the healthcare"? who pays the rich?

typical proganda scheme to phrase it like that, the rich wont pay for healthcare, they will pay taxes into the budget of which a part goes to healthcare, everyone pays for healthcare, the rich just pay their part

  • The people who orchestrated this financial collapse from felix rohatyn, george schultz, etc...should be thrown in gitmo--waterboarded and all their accomplices follow suit..then the problem will solve itself..

  • Richard Wolff is spot on its the workers who make a country wealthy most of all if only all politicians and capitalists and media moguls appreciated this.

President Obama seems to be doing the right thing and i applaud that for once.

In Britain after the WW2 Neve Beven set up our national health service against all the odds and when Britain was at its lowest trying to recover, i think now is the time for the US to play catch up with the rest of the western economies

  • TheRealNews, Im dissapointed. It seems like every time I click on one of your videos (which I rarely do) you guys are pedaling som BIAS, CONSERVATIVE garbage. This is not "real news"

Why would you show this clip of Dan Mitchell? What he is saying defies logic.

I thought taxing the wealthy at a higher rate than the mid class was considered a "redistribution of wealth" by conservative standards. So according the Mitchell, by "redistributing the wealth", we're not redistributing wealth?

  • umm are you celebrating opposite day?

  • What a surprise the capitalist class, like sociopaths, refuse to do their part as members of a society. How dare they mention parasites! This overprivledged minority is the parasite on society. The host is dying, yet they take more. They care nothing about their country or planet,so long as they get their tax breaks and corporate welfare. Tax the affluent.

  • take from the thieves what is ours.

  • No, the fact of the matter is if your are making 250,000 to 1,000,000,000 dollars a year YOU CAN afford to pay more in taxes.Case closed. A flat tax is not smart in a recession scenario, ESPECIALLY FOR THE MIDDLE CALSS WHICH IS SUFFERING THE MOST.

For the past 8 fucking years the wealthy have been given tax cuts, while the majority of the tax burden was placed on the middle class. THATS BULLSHIT, REALNEWS. BULL. SHIT.

If time for the for the rich to contribute to this country.

  • Why can't we just have a flat tax for everyone, since only the very wealthy or extremey poor get taxed less?

  • wolff hits the nail pretty squarely. desire, education, opportunity to produce creates wealth. our current phony credit mostly BS services economy is killing us.

  • Yes! Tax the SHIT out of the rich.

  • EAT THE RICH

  • oh really? is that why cuba has a better health care system than us. You're a moron!

  • Up until healthcare stops being a business, nothing will change for US.

Here's a joke to accompany my comment:

An old doctor has handed over his private practice to his only son(also a doctor)

The son visits his father after his first year and says to his father:

    - Dad, I have cured all of you patients within the last year. How great is that!

    His fahter replies:

    - You idiot! You should have not done that! I have raised you and build this house, because I kept them ill!

  • Jalexoid:

Profit drives innovation. When you want to better serve your clients, you think of new ways to do so, with profit in mind.

Now, is it immoral? No, you aren't hurting anyone but looking to better their lives. I don't know why people are thinking it's a Zero Sum game where I win, you have to lose.

The Government created the monopolies we have today and corrupted the system, How in the hell do you people think they can fix it now?

Alot of you people need to do your homework.

  • Really? Homework? Profit has no direct relation to innovation. Profit is the end result, the goal of any business.

Squeezing out profit drives much more than you might think. And not all industries go by client satisfaction. Some go for vendor lock in. Just look at IT. As I understand, US HMO's are basically an oligopoly.

I would not want to be under the knife of a surgeon that has only profit in mind.

  • Sure it does. You can look at any industry you'd like and compare the price at first to the price down the line.

Healthcare is no exception when the ( for example ) the Pharmaceutical companies compete with others to be a distributor for the vendors, the price will begin up then drop.

    That's a Free Market approach.

Now, under the government. Look at any government run agency, whether the DMV to the Public housing. All are over budgeted, bloated, lease productive of all industries, etc.

  • Keep this in mind.

Today people like you complain about the greedy companies right? What will you do when the government runs it?

Aside from the cost and elimination of competition:

The government is accountable to no one and if a doctor doesn't do something right or whatever the case, you can't do anything about it.

  • >Pharmaceutical companies compete

That will happen if drug patents are abolished totally. Till then, pharma will bribe your doctors, will push bad drugs through the state drug authorities. etc...

Ok, let us take ASUS EeePC. It's a very big innovation in mobile PC market, but profits from them are extremely small. So small that a lot of manufacturers decided not to make them. So there you go, profits not related to innovation.

For pharm, the only thing driving innovation are the expiring patents

  • Oh rly? who do you get your health care insurance from the government>? i thought not. Do your research? How about the W.H.O. study that found our healthcare was #37 in the world, below costa rica, and that 34 out of the top 36 countries have some form of government funded healthcare. Yeah, i think its time for a change.

  • Your healthcare has been going down as you've been pouring more money into it through the government for over 30 years. This happened in the 80's and 90's too. A cry saying we need more health care. And you did. And your answer was to pump more money into it. And you did. And it got worse every single time. How do you think medicare and medicade even came into existence?

So why do you want to continue to do the same thing that hasn't work for you?

  • MrMP81--Over 50% of the healthcare is currently under the Govt. just so u know ( Michael won't tell you that )

    That is a LIE.

  • Tax the fuckers, tax the fuckers, tax the fuckers. No one should make 250,000 dollars a year unless u invented the cure for aids or you mine 250,000 dollars worth of gold. Im tired of these people complaining when people get paid $8.00/hr to do more work than they do. If someone earns themselves a phd thats the only reason why they should make over 150 grand a year. People in africa mine gold for 18 hours and make 3 dollars a day. TAX THE FUCKERS!

  • This is all handing out table scraps through theft. Attack what is not legitimate property land monopolies, patents, corporate state entities and subsidizes, money creating monopolies etc.

  • Nice way of putting it.

  • that last guy speaks so much sense.

  • Punishing the rich...shit the rich have been punishing the poor for the past fifty years. America was at her best during the Roosevelt--Truman years when the filthy were rich were taxed as much as 90%.
