It's called fluoroscopy=] and this exam in particular is called a video swallow=] also SuPerPePsi87 they are x-rays!! aka electromagnetic rays=[] they are what's used during all radiology related exams -- minus MRI -(magnets etc..) and ultra sound ( sound waves etc..)

I had one of these x rays today and wished I could take the video away with me. The nurses allowed me to watch it afterwards. It is so peculiar and yet really cool to see your own insides! Just watching "Victorian Pharmacy" on TV in the UK. It is truly incredible how far medical science has changed in the last 150 years.

If you can add, subtract, multiply, and divide you can be an x-ray tech. A little physics is involved but nothing major.

All he was eating was a barium paste. Its thick, white, and not the best tasting stuff in the world. And the amount of radiation recieved was not harmful. You would get more radiation from smoking 5 ciggs in a day compared to a swallow study. Im a tech i do this stuff for a living.

@Valcgo I work as a security officer in the most modern hospital in Europe. I asked the dr.prof that is an expert on X.ray's and he said it doesn't do any harm to outer or inner organs. The lamb that gves light (or else it would be all black) has a tin plate that has the size of a tabacco paper that still gives enough radiation through you but doesnt do any harm.

Some patients that i see are more than 30min non stop behind the Xray and still have been fully cured

Diagnostic X-rays do not "cure" any condition, they image pathologies.
