the tesla can cover the 35 miles betwwen las vegas and the CA border in 30-45 minutes depending on traffic.

the new S model is planned to offer range of 300 miles on a single charge, easily taking you the 250 miles between Vegas and LA.

Just get a FB1 4001a DC motor for $1400, a good Curtis controller, and a good handful of ion lithium batteries. Nano tech batteries are better than lithium, but cost more. Just look up "White Zombie". Having a RWD electric sports car is the answer!!!

batteries can be reconditioned, recycled, or collected in a dedicated place at the end of their life to minimize pollution. Spraying fossil fuels in the atmosphere through exhaust pipes world wide causes much more pollution to our air and water

Besides, electric cars can use energy stored in other forms; super capacitors, fly wheels, hydrogen fuels cells (maybe?) or some other form we haven't invented yet

Apparently, the nickel on the Toyota Prius battery is mined in Sudbury, Ontario. It is then smelted nearby where there are reports of local damage to the environment. The nickel is then shipped to a refinery in Wales.

When the nickel is refined, it is sent to China to be made into nickel foam. Then it is shipped to Japan and made into a hybrid battery for the 2010 Prius. Once the car is ready, it is shipped to the United States.

Slowly Electric cars are gonna come out. PEople are getting tired of paying too much money on gas. The more on your pocket you spend on other things. Cost me 300 a month of gas now I am forces to drive less because i cant afford it if no gas the inflation stays low.

That is a seemingly obvious point raised by many new to the subject. The good news is studies show less oil is burned while making electricity for multiple cars at a power plant than burning the oil in each internal combustion engine.

Besides, that's just one advantage electric cars have - they are more efficient, have more torque, fewer moving parts to break, quieter, no fumes and less maintenance - oh, and we give less of our money to countries in the middle east.

Telsa just demonstrated driving from CA to Detroit in their car - it can be done (your not going to drive 1,800 miles in one stretch anyway)

the Clarity is an electric car - but instead of batteries it uses hydrogen for energy storage. Jules Vern proposed using hydrogen 130 years ago and the same limitations remain; collecting (takes energy to get it from the atmosphere), storage (i.e. hindenburg) and infrastructure (replacing every gas station)

There is a Nickle Metal Hydride battery technology out there that can give an electric car a much longer range but Chevron owns the patents and doesn't want it made. Their patent was files in the year 2000. Due to current patent laws, that means the patent wont expire till 2020.

Li-ion were dangerous, they had the habit of exploding if overheated or overcharged. Today that has been solved but they are still only made in AA sizes, so the MiniE has over 5000 of them, the Tesla over 7000 individual batteries in its pack. All that packaging, enviromental control, individual montoring etc costs hughly. When a battery is specifically made for vehicles, as a single battery, it will bring down the cost substanially. Supercapacitors are even more efficient but cost even more.

Years ago you could buy a 200+ mile electric Rav4 in California. It used a nickle metal hydrid 95kw battery. Then GM sold the patent for the battery, Chevron brought it, and sued Panasonic, the battery maker to cease production. The production line was dismantled. Thats why the Prius isn't all electric today, the patent covered sizes over 10kw. It also killed the RavE and others. Get the government to force Chevron to quit the patent as it was obviously a move to kill the electric car industry.

I think if they could get the electric cars to go for 200 miles rather than 100 they would sell more. 100 miles is not very far and i would imagine that when you get closer to the 100 limit the cars performance slows down considerably..So come on scientists get your heads together. There must be some way to improve the distance on them..
