@mrjsh316 after naked snake (big boss) becomes awarded Big Boss, he moves to South America in 1970 to establish FOXHOUND and is later contacted by Sokolov (who survives Volgin's torture and is escorted out of Groznygj Grad by the Boss) that there is a new metal gear under development and Snake stops it. That game is called Portable Ops for psp. Later in 1974 Big Boss and his comrade McDonald Miller moves to Costa Rica and establishes MSF (soldiers without borders) but he is contacted..

@mrjsh316 again by the locals there that there is another metal gear in development by a CIA agent living their. Snake destoys this metal gear again and save the world from a WW3. This game is called peace walker for psp. Afterwards he moves to Zanzibar and establishes Outer Haven and thats where Metal Gear 1 takes place where Solid Snake comes in. Hope this helps :)

@AngusSgXD No. You won't understand shit, trust me. Do yourself a favor and get MGS collection. Unfortunately MGS1 is missing, but you can get it on PSN fairly cheap.

seriously...the story line in this game is so very good. I understand that they mix elements of fiction in it, but the use of the "war machine" economy idea is so very true and the ideas and themes are also very believable. You can really get a feel for what side of the poilitical spectrum Hideo Kojima kicks for, he is definately a Humanist at heart, All his MG games have an anti Govt, Anti empire, Anti Establishment and Anti corporation message in them and a pro Humanist, pro freedom ideology.

@foleyisstillgod Play the five other games first. Yes, FIVE. MGS1-3 and the original two Metal Gear games (they actually play a big part in the story, surprisingly.) Play them in order (or start with Snake Eater and work your way up from there.)

And if you already have... save up, wait till Christmas, steal a PS3, just find a way to play this game!

@coolboy9991 Metal Gear 1 for the MSX is the first game in the series. You can play it if you have Disk 2 of MGS3: Subsistence for the PS2.

The first one in the "Solid" series was MGS1 (well... duh). That game was for the PS1, but you can play it on both the PS3 or the PS1.

MGS3 is in some ways, the best entry point. It's a prequel to the entire series, and thus does not require any of the other games to enjoy the story. Plus, the core stealth gameplay is vastly superior than in previous games.

@Garudanime Well, Solid Snake rides Metal Gear 'REX', destroyed half of shadow moses while whiping out hudnreds of gekkos. Only to go out and fight versus Metal Gear 'Ray' controlled by Ocelot. And since both are weapons of mass destruction, they have so awesome weapons embedded.

Holy ......! I've finished the game for a 2nd time right now. And have to say that is a superb masterpiece. Its like playing a TV mini-series.

I've to admit that as for most begginers on the MGS universe I'm a bit un-touchy while completing the missions XD You know bombs, rockets, machineguns and all stuff you can throw away is valid hahaha. But in this second play I tried to be a bit more silent, and thanks that I didn't used many of my DPs I was able to buy some good guns on HAVEN.

Aaaaaactually, Rising is just a spin off. Kojima is working on Peace Walker, with Big Boss. So yeah Peace Walker will probably have the better plot. I'd like to see Raiden before MGS4 till the end of MGS4. You start with the whole Cyborg thing etc. etc. Dr.Madnar etc. etc. Sunny etc. etc. you fight Vamp etc. etc. You help Snake out of Shadow Moses etc. etc. Could be a good game.

The snake in mgs3 was an other snake ( naked snake ,later called Big Boss ) ,the one from mgs 1,2,4 is his clone Solid Snake and in 4 he has both eyes ,the thing he has attached to one of them is just an vision enhancement system ( or however it is called :P ).

That wasn't Solid Snake in MGS3, that was Naked Snake (Big Boss) and Solid Snake was wearing the Solid Eye for Nightvision and Binoculars and Naked Snake was wearing an Eye Patch because he lost an eye.
