If it wasnt for the west and British and American gothic styles, Japanese teenagers would have never thought of creating 'lolita'. They probably never would of become goth either. Lolita is just the japanese version of clothes worn by artists such as Emilie Autumn.

First of all, japanese gothic lolita have NOTHING to do with american/british gothic (is based on victorian fashion). So neither the girl in the video has anything to do with GothLoli (dunno why the title).

And about EA, I love her, but she has nothing to do with GothLoli either, as she herself stated.

actually...it does. yes the main focus is Victorian style, but the makeup and accessories are very gothic, but a more refined version. there are many types of gothic fashion. and we americans in no way in my opinion have created a gothic fashion, that came from Europe. we just copied and modified. which is kind of what the japanese does. theyre awesome at making it super extravagant and cute tho.

lolita started in the 70's , after the war americans settled in harajuku so the kids got western clothes from them , after that the kids started wanting different clothes , lolita didnt start as a gothic style. Gothic lolita didnt come about till 1991.

To put an end to all the arguing on my part, I will say that I am personally following the japanese creative street style of Lolita, rather than trying to look the same like all of these other English Lolita's with their made up rules. However, base rules applied, this belongs on London streets as goth, not on Japanese street's as Lolita. Unfortunate to her, and something you'll not hear me say often now, I'm embarrassed to dress Lolita if girls dressed like her pass as Lolita.

I agree- I think it's just a difference of Japanese and English styles. To me, she doesn't look like a Loli, but I guess in comparison to Goths in England she might be. (I like the Japanese ones more.)

FYI to the comment below: i read the Goth Loli bibles and some of the outfits in there are entirely goth, and some are entirely loli, and some are goth loli.

But it shouldn't matter the label as long as someone likes what they're wearing.

Here's why:

Skirt's too short, not a proper petti, cat ears, fishnets, heavy make-up, and the hair is all wrong for it.

It's more goth than Gothic Lolita.

But you have to start somewhere, right?

Actually I own a TON of the Japanese versions and take inspiration from these for my own outfits. This is not Lolita at all, and seeing stuff like this in the G&LB usually falls in the Gothic portion, not lolita. And I have seen things like these in the G&LB and it's in the Eurosnaps, which is for the gothic portion and is almost always really bad and isn't EVER supposed to be considered Lolita.

Germany has a different 'set' of 'Lolita'. In fact, I do believe most countries, besides from Japan, create their own style or 'way' of Gothic Lolita and so far, I have seen Germany has done a good job of making that clear. Good Job.

that's not true, actually. seeing as Lolita comes from Japan that is the only /true/ form of it. this is what we call ita Lolita. weather or not you like it. i know real Lolita in Germany. but there are more ita than not. as well as in most... all countries now.

her style is Gothic, yes. but not Lolita. it is ita Lolita. pushing eruo, maybe. but the skirt is mini, and the shoes are combaty. not acceptable for Lolita. no such thing as country by country Lolita.

Short skirts and boots are acceptable depending on the genre of lolita they are going for. Also I don't like the whole "Japan's version" being the 'true' style merely because the clothes are inspired by European fashion from long ago. Yes, it did get dubbed "Lolita" in Japan... I know.
