@DonChrisL If anything, I think Jimi would've liked this lol. John Mayer is a strong devotee of Jimi's and it is very clear in his technique of playing.
Pino is an awesome bass player! in fact he is probably the main talent of the band IMO. Mayer is a good blues guitarist but Pino is actally a cut above the rest..
Based on the people watching the show..Ill never go to a show of his..even though he can throw down with the guitar abilities, freakin losers wearing ski hats wobbling around make me want to puke.
Honestly I like John Mayer and beleive he is probably the most talented POP artist out but, he is far from one of the top blues guitarists. Derek Trucks, Joe Bonamassa, Sonny Landreth just to name a few of who I would consider "top" blues guitarists
I just notice he actually has a pick in his hands .. and he keeps switching from finger style to using the pick .... !!!! i just found a new trick to practice
i love people who say he only writes his music for the music and girls...maybe thats what he actually wants to write...if uve seen the feel he has wen playing those songs, is it possible for him not loving every second of those songs. As he said, he couldnt imagine one line of every song hes written being different. Maybe he just loves the acoustic pop he plays ?
Just when I think ive seen everything mayer has to offer i discover another video where he shows just how good he really is. I feel sorry for anyone who only knows him from the radio.
Hey, please watch the videos of my band on my channel. The singing could use a little more work, but please watch us and give us some comments. Thank you!
Ok John Mayer is good but seriously? Someone put he was a mix of SRV and jimi Hendrix...no freaking way. Not only are those two of the greatest guitarists of all time but what has John really done? Not much
@joehiggz23 Hendrix wasn't that a "good" guitarist, he hided all his mistakes behind his distortion and overdrive. He was fucked up on drugs and made some never-heard-before music - but imo he was a good guitarist 'cos he invented a lot. Mayer is a very skilled guitarist, and yes, he is very innovative.
@madstrixer HAHAHAHAHAHAHA go listen to hear my train a comin', and the ridiculous amounts of stuff WITHOUT distortion. trust me, he didnt hide a thing. he is the greatest period. i personally know all of his music, and its really technical, and he MAKES UP chords. playing hendrix is HARD. playing like him is impossible. not the same for john mayer. it takes hours to learn a hendrix piece WITH 100% tabs. it takes like 5 minutes for john mayer. nobody knows what music is anymore.
Not yet to Hendrix's nor srv's level. But kid can play guitar. This gives the blues hope. Let's hope he continues this. I can see him becoming a great such as Clapton,Hendrix, srv, and the rest.
Jon mayers nothing special, shitty guitar skills at best but at least hes not as bad as jack "same songs" johnson. when i hear his music on the radio i just turn it off, just hearing the first couple of seconds is enough to deter me wanting to listen to music all together for the next hour or so, its that bad. Jon mayer does suck though.
@applesandarrows hahaah yeah it's easy to criticize people when you're sitting at home on your computer having no life and playing with your 4 inch virgin dick.
@shredr18 haha easy to talk shit from behind a computer screen huh? when u post a video of u playing guitar maybe i will stop loling at how much of a ball-less faggot you are
@shredr18 haha? fagg moron you just trying to get out of the fact that u make no videos and are a pussy bitch so dont talk shit son who do u think u r?
Nowhere near SRV. Wash your mouth out with soap. Not saying he sucks, but lets be serious here lol I wonder if this is the 16 year olds saying this who put him above Jimi Hendrix lol
This is the first time I've listened to a full song by Mayer. I think he is proficient and has achieved a nice tone, but lacks a wow factor and is certainly not someone I'd expect to see on a stage infront of thousands. Hell, I've heard more impressive things coming out of me and I'm only the second best guitarist I know! This guy couldn't square up to Stevie he just hasn't got the power to compete with that texas blues cat hell raiser. Mayer is now a twiddler and a tin foil musician in my book!
I love john but this guitar sounds like a quire or some piece of shit. He normally has such a great tone but that is horrible. His playing is incredible tho dnt get me wrong!
This guy is good, but that's it. Go to a blues club in your town this friday or sat and your odds of seeing a guy better than this guy are at least 50-50. This is an easy listening pop guy that messes around with blues a little bit. This is no bluesman.
@voxhammer YES!!!! couldn't agree more. A pop star who can play in the blues style....far different from someone who actually GETS the blues....he can play the notes, but I'm not sure he knows WHY he is playing them. Its about the safest blues you can find.
i dont think he really sold out..he maybe has made different kinds of music over his career. but every single thing he does is from the heart. which i dont think is selling out. no matter how much you change your sound.
@highwaychile67 well, he cant sell out. He started as a cheesy teeny bopper pop star. If anything he's trying to go back on that and be taken seriously, like hes trying to get himself back from being a sell out. I remember reading a Rolling Stone interview with him where he talks about smoking bongs and buying Playgirl (yes the one with naked dudes). he was def. trying to dirty up his image.
I know people like to say this guy "plays for girls, money, and attention...." But explain to me how that's his focus after watching him rip every time you see him play? its obvious visually and audibly every single time that he's in his own element musically and loves every second of it
SRV didn't really do any fingerstyle blues or slapping and popping like mayer is. This sounds nothing like SRV. Mayer also tends to float towards major fourths and the sevenths of the scale where as Vaughan would pretty much stay in minor pentatonic.
@aldricmeints Not sure what you mean by "major fourths." Fourth intervals are either perfect (2 1/2 steps), augmented (3 whole steps), or diminished (2 whole steps). Sevenths are either major (5 1/2 steps), augmented (6 steps same as an octave), minor (5 steps) or diminished (4 1/2 steps). Minor pentatonic is 1-b3-4-5-b7 and Major pentatonic is 1-2-3-5-6. So what do you mean by major fourth? Just curious, not trying to be rude. He does have some SRV inflections in his vocals IMO.
@schrammguitars typed that too fast to relize that typo. I meant major thirds in a minor pentatonic scale which is basically adding notes from the mixolydian scale... and I should have phrased that better, I didnt mean major fourths and sevenths. Should have been major thirds and dominant sevenths.
@schrammguitars typed that too fast to relize that typo. I meant major thirds in a minor pentatonic scale which is basically adding notes from the mixolydian scale... and I should have phrased that better, I didnt mean major fourths and sevenths. Should have been major thirds and dominant sevenths.
@Esmitherz64 - you are so right... he is like Stevie's reincarnation... it is spooky. the first time I saw him REALLY play, it sent shivers down my spine for that exact reason..
@Esmitherz64 i think the only way you could really say that is if you believe years from now, people will say the same stuff about him [Mayer], and I just don't think he's to that level....... yet
@Esmitherz64 I hope you're fucking joking otherwise your comment is disgusting. Stevie played real emotion drenched blues not privileged white boy pop. Just because he plays the I-IV-V progression doesn't make it blues.
@Esmitherz64 technically, maybe. He doesn't have the color or feeling in his playing, however. It lacks the extension of personality that Stevie was able to put in his guitar. He's good. Maybe a silhouette of Vaughan, but certainly not an opaque version.
Well, that's why SRV deserves all the praise he gets, even in death. A white man performing blues in the 80's onwards and achieving commercial success, yet being able to play with soul, passion and remaining true to his bluesy roots. Is Mayer a talented player? Hell, yes; just too pedantic.
His guitar playing is fine. His singing is fine. The on thing that really separates the men (SRV , Hendrix, Buddy Guy) from the boys in this case is the INTENSITY!! That seems to be one thing lacking in a lot the popular blues players now, in my opinion.
I know what you mean, I like a few of his songs, but most of them aren't very catchy like you say. But he has great chops, and I wish I was as good with chords as he is
Man this guy is such a great guitarist, i just hate his music!!! I AM SORRY TO ALL YOU HUGE JOHN MAYER FANS!! I try so hard to listen and enjoy this, but to me his voice is irritating and his songs aren't catchy the way i like songs to be. He is an amazing guitar player, i wish i was as good of a guitar player as him and i doubt ill ever be that good, but i hate his music. Can you dig that? Do you get where im coming from. I try to like this, but i just cant. >:(
well, this song, for example he only does on his live cds and is more bluesy. he has plenty of catchy songs i think like bigger than my body, clarity and vultures to name a few.
besides, if you dont like it, you dont like it! no need to explain yourself to youtube!
if u hate him why r y listening indian5 u asshole u prolly cant even play close to him the things mayer knows on his finger tips u prolly cant even fathum
Body: DONT READ THIS Cause It Really Works. YOU WILL GET KISSED ON THE NEAREST POSSIBLE FRIDAY BY THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE. TOMORROW WILL BE THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE. SEND THIS OVER TO 5 VIDEOS IN 143 MINUTES WHEN UR DONE PRESS F6 AND UR CRUSHES NAME WILL APPEAR ON THE SCREEN IN BIG LETTERS
I think he's really talented but I just can't get into his playing. It lacks fire. He's just not gritty enough to play the blues with any conviction whatsoever. Mayer should take a break, get into a fight (and lose), go on a drinking binge, hang out in some real rock and blues clubs and then put out his next album. Maybe then we will hear some balls in his playing. Either that or sell his strat cuz it just looks unhappy in his arms.
miguelbaptista, if you weren't such a jackass you would realize I wasn't trying to diss him. Since you did want to run your fuckin mouth here we go. John Mayer is the definition of a sellout. His music sounds like its on the wrong side of adult contemporary and his voice is horrible. His guitar playing is lackluster and his tone is probably the gayest tone I have ever heard. He's an SRV wanna be and comes no where close at all. He needs to do his own thing and stop ripping off a legend.

@Esmitherz64 i think the only way you could really say that is if you believe years from now, people will say the same stuff about him [Mayer], and I just don't think he's to that level....... yet

@Esmitherz64 i agree the siging sounds very similar but the guitar obviously is very far from SRV skill

@Esmitherz64 I hope you're fucking joking otherwise your comment is disgusting. Stevie played real emotion drenched blues not privileged white boy pop. Just because he plays the I-IV-V progression doesn't make it blues.

@Esmitherz64 srv's ghost ehh, boy stevies lost alot of his ability since he died.

@Esmitherz64 technically, maybe. He doesn't have the color or feeling in his playing, however. It lacks the extension of personality that Stevie was able to put in his guitar. He's good. Maybe a silhouette of Vaughan, but certainly not an opaque version.

John Mayer SUCKS ASS
evhwolfgangguitar 1 year ago
Well, that's why SRV deserves all the praise he gets, even in death. A white man performing blues in the 80's onwards and achieving commercial success, yet being able to play with soul, passion and remaining true to his bluesy roots. Is Mayer a talented player? Hell, yes; just too pedantic.

His guitar playing is fine. His singing is fine. The on thing that really separates the men (SRV , Hendrix, Buddy Guy) from the boys in this case is the INTENSITY!! That seems to be one thing lacking in a lot the popular blues players now, in my opinion.

He sings so much like SRV...

bigrussthefusss 1 year ago 2
well, this song, for example he only does on his live cds and is more bluesy. he has plenty of catchy songs i think like bigger than my body, clarity and vultures to name a few.
besides, if you dont like it, you dont like it! no need to explain yourself to youtube!
