Betty, thank you for your patience and the time that you take to explain things in detail to us. I appreciate that you list the ingredients as well as explain how the food is prepared. @CaterpillarGiraffe I hope you like it; it's probably a little different from most, but it has been very popular with my viewers (and my family loves it!).
Betty your recipes have been a great success the past few I have tried so tonight I am making these! You are a font of great recipes and helpful hints
@m187able Some people don't like it; you may substitute any cheese you like in this recipe. I will be having a video on scalloped potatoes without cheese soon!
@msfashionlover It is more than I would expect 3 people to eat, but you can refrigerate the leftovers and reheat in the microwave. It's great the second time around!
@bettyskitchen betty i made them but i think i did something wrong i think i put to much butter and i used 8x8 cassarole and it was kinda runny can you help plz thank you betty!
Hi Betty! I have a question that I was wondering if you knew the answer to...what is the difference between "scalloped" potatoes and "au gratin" potatoes? Thanks!!
@ancain61910 au gratin potatoes will have cheese. Scalloped potatoes do not necessarily have cheese. For scalloped potatoes, you just put raw potato slices, salt, and a sprinkling of flour in layers. Pour milk over all and bake. Delicious! (but no cheese)
Hi Betty, We made this for our family Easter dinner yesterday, it turned out fantastic. Thank you very much for making the video, everyone enjoyed the potatoes very much.
made this last week , everyone loved it and so I made it again this time with scallions ,chives and basil. Came out awesome . When pulled off the foil I added white wine over the top. Another triumph and now the family wants this for Easter. Thanx for gettin it started.
@laurysocheerful Just cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate it. To heat it up, place it in a pan lined with aluminum foil and bring the foil up around it. Bake about 20 minutes at 350.
Thanks for the video. I'm going to try this recipe out. It is surprising how much milk you used, but it all got soaked up and looked great out of the oven. I might add bacon bits to mine though :) Thanks again, I love simple recipes like this.

No wonder the US has one of the highest obesity levels in the world...cause nothing would round out a well balanced meal of fried chicken, scalloped potatoes and over-cooked green beans like a croissant. My children just raved about this dish and now beg me to make it as often as possible. Thanks for the great instructions - you made it very clear and understandable!
Hi Betty ; ) I bet that would taste really good with chunks of ham it in. Adding ham I would think would make it an entire meal and maybe with a small side dinner salad on the side.
oooh this potato looks so delicious and even better with the gorgeous chicken! I think I might try this, ditto for the chicken. Thanks for posting Betty.
Hi Betty, can you make a tutorial on choices of onions. There are so many different kinds of onions but I am very curious which kinds are best for what kind of cuisine.
This may be the nicest recipe for Au Gratin Potatoes I have found yet.. Of course that is different from Scalloped Potatoes. I will try your Au Gratin recipe with high expectations! Thanks for posting, Betty.
Hi! Thanks for your question. You do not have to boil the potatoes before you add them to the casserole. The casserole cooks for a very long time in the oven, and the potatoes will bake up nice and tender and tasty!
I think you will like the scalloped potatoes. You can bake them in any ovenproof dish or pan that is of an appropriate size for the amount of potatoes and sauce. Thanks for your lovely compliment!
No, I didn't go to culinary school. All recipes are family recipes or original ideas of my own. I have always been interested in cooking, and I started creating and collecting recipes when I was about 12. I have continued this hobby for the past almost 50 years--so I've tried a lot of recipes! Thanks for asking!
i'm making these now and i realized i used velveeta block cheese is it still the same??? i'm making them for work and worried they wont come out good? i omited the onions since i dont like the texture and used onion powder in the cheese sauce! one thing the sauce isnt as orange as yours
Velveeta block cheese is fine! That's what I usually use--just cut into cubes or shredded, so that it will melt. It is fine to omit the onions, and using onion powder is great. I think my casserole showed up more orange on the video than it really was. Don't worry if yours isn't as orange. It sounds like your potatoes are on the right track and you have done everything very well. They should be great! (This recipe is very versatile, and you don't have to follow it to the letter!)
Im really glad i happened upon your video, thank you! I made the potatoes on my own today, sort of experimenting, and i used way too much butter. but i poured most of it off and they were very good. im glad to know i used all of the same ingredients you did, without knowing. But now, I have the right amounts, and i will try it again soon! Thank you!!
Ive been wanting to make this plate for a long time but didnt really know how to make it. But thanks to you "Betty" I now know how to and boy this is really good. Thank you again.
Yes, but I consider that each person is going to salt to their own taste. If you're on a low- or no-salt diet, then you know to lessen the salt. Thanks for pointing that out!
Velveeta cheese is technically "cheese spread." In the U.S. you can get it in just about any supermarket. If you cannot get it, just substitute cheddar (or any other favorite) cheese--It will work fine! Thanks for your question!
You could try it on the top of the stove, in a large, covered skillet. You might need to make only half as much, because it might want to boil over. And, if your skillet can go in the oven, that would be even better. Or, you could use a baking pan in the oven--that would give excellent results! Please let me know if you have further questions. Thanks for writing!
You have outdone yourself with the crunchy chicken and these potatoes. My cat, Sam, is sitting on my chair back and seemed very impressed, as well :) I will use this recipe.... I don't know why I hadn't thought of the Velvleeta!
Wow I had no idea that making this from scratch was this simple. I usually use the stuff in the box but I will have to try this next time because I'm sure it's MUCH better. Thanks a bunch Betty! =)
Thanks, Ben. There's really a lot of difference in the fresh potatoes and the boxed, in this case. I hope you try it! Thanks for your comment, and your loyal viewing!
Betty -- one of the best things I've learned from your videos is to mix rouxs off the heat and then put it back on after adding all the ingredients for the sauce. Before this, my rouxs would always fail. Thanks for that and for the recipe! Looks delicious -- I can see myself adding ground beef and other firm veggies to make a scalloped potato lasagna or something =D

I am hungry now, you always plan great dishes. Could you do a quick tip on garnishing food.. with parcley perhaps.
I dont know if I should chop it or just put it out there. :D

Thanks for your compliment! I will put "garnishing" on my "to-do" list--I am getting behind, so it may take a while! Thanks for your request!

You have outdone yourself with the crunchy chicken and these potatoes. My cat, Sam, is sitting on my chair back and seemed very impressed, as well :) I will use this recipe.... I don't know why I hadn't thought of the Velvleeta!

Thanks, Patsy. I like using Velveeta, because it makes it creamier. I hope you enjoy the recipe!

You can't go wrong with potatoes and cheese, baked in sauce in the oven! Thanks for your sweet comment!

Wow I had no idea that making this from scratch was this simple. I usually use the stuff in the box but I will have to try this next time because I'm sure it's MUCH better. Thanks a bunch Betty! =)

It is much better than boxed potatoes au gratin. And it is very simple and makes a lot!!! Thanks for your nice comment!

Thanks for your comment! I like your idea of adding ground beef or veggies to make a one-dish meal! Great idea! Thanks!
