first version of goliath/ rapid fire i heard 3 years ago. and i sill love it. when cedric does the high part and his voice sounds dirty i feel beyond the regular extent of human emotion.
agreed. this sounds so much better than 'goliath' live. i don't know what it is because it's shot with a shitty camera at a small(?) venue. i say small cause it's not bombarded with sub-bass and you can actually hear almost everything including cow bell. i wish they sounded like this every time they play but hey, nobody can be incredible all the time.
They totally ripped off King Crimson's 21st Century Schizoid Man. I hate people who steal. My bike was stolen from me when I was nine. I hope Volta pays for what they've done.
holy shit. i never even made that connection. and king crimson is one of my favs. wtf! it sounds so obvious now though, i highly doubt tmv would rip them off intentionally. both bands are great, great minds think alike. ya never know though. tool rips them off too. some of the riffs from "thee of a perfect pair" are nearly identical to "46 & 2". at least, to my ears. now i am beginning to wonder if stephen king ripped off the crimson king. lmao. oh well, nobody is original.
Omar is not coming through loud enough in this video, which unfortunately means the solo doesn't come through well enough. That really blows because he explodes on this track every time.
I was really disappointed that Goliath didn't turn out more like this performance. The guitars in the final version were so airy. This performance is probably the heaviest one they've ever done.
i cant believe that mars volta are playing this stuff....im blown away....siick sh*t! if you guys havent gottent he original press brown vinyl....get it NOW!
They already collaborated with Handsome Boy Modeling School.....Song's called "A Day In The Life"...features RZA and AG as well...but i hear ya...VoltaDOOM would be THA SHIT!!!
there's something about Thomas's drumming that reminds of old 70's prog rock drumming. Damn, he's nuts, and one of the best drummers I heard in a while, alongside Jon Theodore.
this was the greatest moment of my life, i was here 3rd row and i was sooo high. i was fucking freaking out when they played the fistfull of dollars intro. this was amazing
I think somewhere between touring for Amputechture and recording for Bedlam, Cedric started doing drugs again. These are not the antics of a sober man.
hanging out with that john frusciante he's a bad influence lol, i dunno i'm not on drug usually on absinthe when i'm on stage and i do crazy stuff like that
Is it me or Omar is crazier than ever. Since Jon was out and Thomas came in; Omar seems to be in top of things and Thomas is just blowing shit things up. Those two would probably make a pair to their relationship. As a band.
no the craziest show of the tour was in berkeley...cedric ran out into the crowd for like 6 minutes in the middle of rapid fore tollbooth. then he started singing rap lyrics.
i love how the mars volta is losing fans like jechtlag. it shows that they do exactly what they say they do. they make the music for themselves and aren't trying to please any of their fans. if they fall "off the map" they really won't care, as long as some record label will pay them to make music. watch the henry rollins interview.
To me it sounds like what Viscera Eyes sounds compared to the rest of Amputechture. I REALLY hope this record puts TMV back on the track and has them making wonderful music like the one from Tremulant or De-Loused; because, if it doesn't, they'll officially suck balls.
I am a huge mars volta fan and after hearing "Amputechture," I was quite dissapointed and thought that they were losing their touch. I still prefer "Deloused in the Comatorium" over any of their other albums. However, I am very pleased with this and I have a restored faith and confidence in them. I am predicting this album to be a little more like "Frances the Mute" and really good.
I hope that in the next album they utilize more of Ikey's keyboard playing (beyond just organ sounds) in some songs, but this song already sounds great. Can't wait to hear the final recorded version.
dude. i love this, i don't think i've really heard tmv do anything else like this, except for tetragrammaton i suppose, which has more of the riffs in hand and straight forward beats- but they do it in style!! haha. so anyone know when the new album is coming out, specifically?
Dude i dont like the studio version as much as live, i hope on the new album its gonna be faster paced like this is... Damn i fuckin love the mars volta
THIS VIDEO IS AMAZING! Thank you so much. The sound quality is far superior to any Rapid Fire Tollbooth bootlegs than I can find. Thanks for this video!
