  • ilove franks playing but i dont see where the student has outdone the teacher..

  • @blacknuss6

Possibly on feel and expression at times? On actual structure of tune's maybe not as much, but Frank does well on versatility with differen't styles, he has a lot of great tunes that are not Hendrixy sounding that people never talk about.

Would Frank be an innovator as far as the wammy bar technique that he uses to emulate a slide guitar effect, also behind the bridge tremelo picking and standard picking to make bizarre sounds? He also does the backwards guitar thing.

  • Marino walked in the footprints left by Hendrix while Hendrix created his own...listen to bob dylans version of all along the watchtower ..Jimi s version is totally different to the point that even dylan said jimis was the definitive version.....INNOVATOR ...i lov

  • @blacknuss6

Good points...Jimi was an innovator. Do you think Hendrix would be as reveared as an innovator without all the studio effects as well as the the guitar effects that he used on the song you mentioned as well as his other stuff? I realize most every one does to. Nice discussion.

  • dont get me wrong , im frank marinos BIGGEST fan, but you have to give hendrix credit for being the INNOVATOR that he was..and your right , all good musicians borrow but hendrix borrowed from the blues and came up with a NEW SOUND AND STYLE OF PLAYING...ITS MUCH EASIER TO FOLLOW IN SOMEONE ELSES FOOTPRINTS AS OPPOSED TO CREATING SOMETHING TOTALLY NEW AND FRESH...

  • Bad news guys... First off, it's "art" not "athletics". And it's a good thing it's not athletics. Because athleticly speaking, there's 15yo kids all over youtube today that can play faster and cleaner than Jimi ever did. RIP. Anyone who posts "This guy is BETTER than that guy" is clearly not a musician. From the bass players perspective. Our Jimi was Jaco. RIP again... No one played like Jaco then. Now kids all over can do what he was doing. No ones any better than anyone. It's EVOLUTION.

  • Hendrix, Trower, Travers, and plenty of others, this was a period of time with great recognizable guitarists. These guys might have a technical edge or style that is more popular than the other, but in the end they are all great.

  • very good guitarist but no way is he better than jimi!! jimi created the style he is playing.jimi was an innovator , all others who play that style are copying him

  • @blacknuss6

Jimi Hendrix borrowed a lot from the early blues guy's. Jimi wouldn't have sounded the way he did without those influences. It seems sometimes that's it's ok if Jimi borrowed, but it's not always ok to be inspired by Hendrix. Is there a difference between copying someone verses being inspired by another artist.

  • ..always loved Frank's work.. no point in arguing his influences -- he would've been a HELL of a guitar player no matter who or what influenced him. He's a highly competant guitarist either way.

And if you claim to like the Jinx' music, then you must include Frank along with Robin Trower, Randy Hansen, et al. It takes a certain skill level to achieve this, and I'm not talking about playing in your room, he can do this night after night.

  • Is this song a challenge to play, in terms of having to both be the lead guitarist and the lead singer as well?

  • @FURDOG1961 I would have to answer yes. Reason 1) it does take some talent to play guitar and sing at the same time. Reason 2) You could use the same setup and effects configuration but that doesnt mean you are going to sound like Frank , thats almost the same as you can drive Jeff Gordons Race car but that doesnt mean you can drive like jeff Gordon and reason 3) you should ask Frank bout this question HAHAHAHAHAH

  • brings back a lot of memory's saw him in the 70s and again in 1980 at a small venue in Tempe AZ there were about 200 people their was a small bar had to win tickets from KDKB kicked ass.

  • Marino superior to Hendrix?

Hendrix was an INNOVATOR. He redefined...yes, redefined the way the electric guitar could be played and made to sound.

Listen to Machine Gun + Wild Thing. The man was an extraterrestrial who used distortion + feedback as coherent elements in musical expression and construction.

    No Hendrix...no Marino.

  • For the record...Hendrix never said he was anything more than just a guitar player..in fact no guitar great ever said of himself they were the "best". Putting a "best" sticker on divine talent only cheapens it, by bringing it down to human level. Surely all the greats were above human...they deserve to stay that way...All I know is when it's my turn to go...I'm bringing my guitar cause it's gonna be one hell of a jam session!.. Music is a gift, not a contest...just listen, and be happy....

  • That's not how you spell Hamdrickquxzs.

  • Blugzor I am old enough to understand and remember Hendrix and I agree with metalgypsy . Marino walks all over Hendrix . Marino is vastly under-rated whereas Hendrix was over-rated and because Hendrix is dead everyone jumps on the "I was his number 1 fan "bandwagon . Get over it . Clapton ,Beck, Page ,Howe, Moore etc will all get the same when they have gone and the youngsters take over ( if they haven't alredy ).

  • guitar solo is sweet

  • Does anyone have Bottom Of The Barrel off this same album?

  • @Nicolasfxx Influenced by jimi for sure, like 100.000.000 guitar player around the world. Maybe he started playing because of Jimi. But better than Jimi Hendrix ? You must be too young to understand !

  • Frank's such a Fantastic Musician !!!!!

  • @Nicolasfxx thank you godamn its about fuckin time someone got it right everyone always says im scratchin' on Jimi when i say that but when i saw mahogany rush back in the 70s he destryed Hendrix to me

  • just plain FUNKY AWSOME
