It sounds like Joe Pass is your main influence. Good stuff, man! Even though influences like Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale, Michael Brecker, Joe Henderson, and Joe Farrell creep into my playing, I can still appreciate it when someone kicks it old-school the way you do!
it's cherokee! you've got this tune inside and out. Love it. Don't know where people say you've got "no feeling". There's so much energy in this solo! it's great!
20 years. I don;t practic a lot now, but work more on rhythms, composition... But I used to play approx 4-8hrs a day. I tune in 4ths so everything moves fast -3x as fast. I'll be finishing a dvd on the topic soon. I recommend swithing asap!
After we met at the elephant room, I tried your fourths tuning for two weeks. It worked great for lines, but chords that were once easy became a total bitch to play. How do you compensate?
Most drop 2 and 3 chords are still easy, and you need to learn 1/3 or 1/4 the shapes. Larger voicings on 5 or 6 strings or close voicings may be harder--sometimes impossible, however new voicings can be used. And these will generally have a more unique sound! Also try smaller chords on 2 and 3 strings.
zyby you stink, people that say no feel say that because they can't play fast. Just because you suck and play slow doesn't mean you have feel. How could you tell "feel" with a fast bop tune. you imbecile!
Dasackman - I didn't say that he wasn't fast, I said that he played without feeling and, in your comment, you confirm that fact. One note played with passion can communicate a whole lot more to me than a thousand sterile exercises played at any speed. A thousand notes played at speed with passion can have feeling too. Perhaps you don't get out enough?
Im telling you right now I have seen Matt play at the Elephant room in Austin and this guy is just an amazing musician and guitar player. This guy should be on the cover of at least GUITAR PLAYER.
that guitar sometimes sounds like a banjo to me
