  • awsome performance

  • Nice job! It's a good tune. I play for dancers now and thne and I think I'd like to learn that one. And use that tuning on my other fiddle so I don't have to retune. Haven't tinkered muc h with alternate tuneings as I read music and the scores for the retuned fiddle are written in regular tuning and sound in the other tuning which drives me crazy. Almost makes me dizzy to play one note and hear another. I suppose it takes a lot of practice.

  • @CUITKIN With this tune, be careful when playing for dancers, because it's crooked. There are an uneven number of beats. ;)

  • Are you using the Trowie tuning? AEAC#, i think.

  • @CUITKIN You are correct. It's tuned AEAC#. Good ear. :)

  • Absolutely awesome fiddling (could probably do with the drum machine though.... sounds fantastic just on its own)

  • I had to stop by for another listen. I learned a simpler version of this reel, but would to learn this one. Really nice fiddlin.

  • @isabellanakahara Thanks.

  • Spectacular playing; but could you do it sans the metronome/drum machine in the background? I've probably watched this video a few dozen times and I love it.

  • This is my favorite version of this song, and I have seen A LOT of this song, I use the Hangman's Reel to dance.

  • @j0rdandanielle Thanks for your kind words.

  • That's some fine fiddling there!

  • @isabellanakahara Thanks. :)

  • It's good.....but check out Tania Eliabeth,,,,,oh Lord, that girl has something special....

  • You know, there's good fiddling, and there's "holy crap, did this guy sell his soul to the devil in exchange for being able to play like that?!". This performance falls into the latter category.

All kidding aside, that is some of the best fiddling I've ever heard and without a doubt THE best pizzicato work I've heard in old-time fiddling. Very, very nice. Into my favorites this goes!

    cheers

  • @ivanrorick Thanks Ivan. You are very kind.

  • I have never seen anyone play like that; it was brilliant!

  • @fedaykincmndr Thanks.

  • Vi, did you learn this off sheet music ? what tunings are you using ?

  • @ShetlandFiddler I did not use any sheet music. It is tuned in AEAE. I learned it from listening to Jean Carignan's version of the tune here on youtube. I don't play it exactly like him. After learning it, I tried to make it my own.

  • @ShetlandFiddler is A(G)-E(D)A-(A)C#(E)

  • @Atento80 Correct. I wrote the wrong tuning in my comment. It is AEAC#. I actually have the tuning listed in the tune description. :)

  • I love this song! And I adore, how you made it your own. :D It sounds really great and I'd love to see more fiddle tunes from you pleease. :)

  • @FiddleGirl123 Thanks. I really enjoyed working this tune up. I do have more fiddle tunes on my channel, including clips of my friends playing.

  • amazing !

  • @telecaster976 Thanks.

  • just great.

  • @CelticGroundhogs Thanks.

  • very nice...I wil be sure and check out your other videos! I got a kick out of someones response about not using the back beat. I saw john specker live this last weekend and it woud be a bit like telling him not to tap his feet !!! I just started playing again after forty years not...and look forward to being able to play even half as good as you play !!

  • @wellusedtube I'm flattered.

  • Hmmm The beat background was original. =] I think your playing of this particular tune would be just as fun, playful, and beautiful without it though. But I really liked your vid, and will check out your others......Nice job. [=

  • Great playing, thanks for posting this tune!!!

  • Simply wonderful! Thank you!

  • That Was Super! A Very Energetic Sound...with a DrumBeat!!!! Taber-r-r-r-rnack! That's Great!

  • Real nice. Love those little skip jumps....playful. Thanks. Larry

  • Thanks Larry. It's a great tune. :)

  • truly magnificent! thank you for sharing

  • You're very welcome.

  • I would be happy to. I don't always have time to read it, but I will make an effort to be more involved. Thanks for the invite.

  • Good fiddling Jean . Keep on fiddling .

Can you come to Devilssbox and give some tips on fiddling. How to bow, crosstune, chord , timing , etc,

    Vitally

  • Why the electronic drums?

  • I don't have anyone to jam with here, so I make do with my Casio keyboard. It keeps a decent groove going that I can play with.

  • Another good version is the one from the Barachois, Hangman's Tune.

    Vi

  • You played this one real good , better than some others. It is a difficult piece to play.

You feel more at ease playing it. You did justice to it. Check my post on Devilssbox for another version of Hangman's Tune you might like.

    Vitally

  • Thanks. I really enjoyed learning it, and enjoyed your version of it as well.

  • Thanks Vi,

    A good fiery version.

Makes me feel I could almost play this!

    Keith

  • Go for it!

  • Excellent ! I'd like to play this piece !

  • Thank you. I really enjoyed working it up. It is such a fun tune.

  • You rock, I mean I play viola and I cna only go half as fast as you can. Fiddle you playing there??? Cause' it sure sounds like it is!

  • It is my violin/fiddle, but it is in a cross tuning configuration. I have my G string tuned up to an A, my D string tuned up to an E, and my E string tuned down to a C#.

That is what gives it that different tone quality.

  • Oh. I have also partially learned how to play fiddle and to me it sounds like a fiddle. Keep on playing your great you know!!!

  • Awesome bowing there!! Wow,

  • Thanks. Much appreciated. If you haven't heard it, you have to watch the video of Jean Carignan playing Hangman's reel. He puts me to shame.

  • Nice version of one of my favorites!
