Nice job! It's a good tune. I play for dancers now and thne and I think I'd like to learn that one. And use that tuning on my other fiddle so I don't have to retune. Haven't tinkered muc h with alternate tuneings as I read music and the scores for the retuned fiddle are written in regular tuning and sound in the other tuning which drives me crazy. Almost makes me dizzy to play one note and hear another. I suppose it takes a lot of practice.
Spectacular playing; but could you do it sans the metronome/drum machine in the background? I've probably watched this video a few dozen times and I love it.
You know, there's good fiddling, and there's "holy crap, did this guy sell his soul to the devil in exchange for being able to play like that?!". This performance falls into the latter category.
All kidding aside, that is some of the best fiddling I've ever heard and without a doubt THE best pizzicato work I've heard in old-time fiddling. Very, very nice. Into my favorites this goes!
@ShetlandFiddler I did not use any sheet music. It is tuned in AEAE. I learned it from listening to Jean Carignan's version of the tune here on youtube. I don't play it exactly like him. After learning it, I tried to make it my own.
very nice...I wil be sure and check out your other videos! I got a kick out of someones response about not using the back beat. I saw john specker live this last weekend and it woud be a bit like telling him not to tap his feet !!! I just started playing again after forty years not...and look forward to being able to play even half as good as you play !!
Hmmm The beat background was original. =] I think your playing of this particular tune would be just as fun, playful, and beautiful without it though. But I really liked your vid, and will check out your others......Nice job. [=
It is my violin/fiddle, but it is in a cross tuning configuration. I have my G string tuned up to an A, my D string tuned up to an E, and my E string tuned down to a C#.
That is what gives it that different tone quality.
awsome performance

@CUITKIN With this tune, be careful when playing for dancers, because it's crooked. There are an uneven number of beats. ;)

Are you using the Trowie tuning? AEAC#, i think.
CUITKIN 1 month ago
@CUITKIN You are correct. It's tuned AEAC#. Good ear. :)

@Atento80 Correct. I wrote the wrong tuning in my comment. It is AEAC#. I actually have the tuning listed in the tune description. :)

Why the electronic drums?
t4kne 3 years ago
I don't have anyone to jam with here, so I make do with my Casio keyboard. It keeps a decent groove going that I can play with.
vithefiddler 3 years ago
Another good version is the one from the Barachois, Hangman's Tune.

You played this one real good , better than some others. It is a difficult piece to play.
You feel more at ease playing it. You did justice to it. Check my post on Devilssbox for another version of Hangman's Tune you might like.
