@ajscitco90 The 2004 movie was based off of three stroy lines the Marvel preview presents which was the first punisher orign story and year one and of course welcom back frank. In the Ultimate Marvel univers Punisher is a ex nypd officer so I think they used a little of that in the 2004 version only hes FBI. Basically they cant really make him a vietnam vet these days and I do believe eventually Punisher will be reset and probably be a iraq war veteran as the max and reg is really old.

Anybody who has any knowledge of the actual comic book series of Frank Castle as the Punisher would find it impossible to like this movie. This is one of yet another beginning 80's to early 90's wanna-be comic book movies. To anyone who has actually read and followed the series, War Zone is the closest they've ever come to brining him to life, period. Of course there's inaccuracies like Microchips grandma rather than his son, but still.. This movie shouldn't even be called the punisher
@lordpeterfunk Warzone was an awful movie and straight adaptations from comics to movies often don't end well. You want him to run around with white gloves and matching boots? That would look lame. Faithful or not, they got the psychology of the character down and as an action movie, or movie overall, it is easily better than the latest two films. Something tells me had he just had a shirt with a skull on it, many of the comic purists would suddenly like the movie.

@Kapfilms Supposedly, Marvel only gave the producers a "partial license" regarding the Punisher - namely, they could use the Frank Castle and the Punisher names, but not the costume, the skull symbol on the shirt, or any other characters / specific storylines from the comic book series. This was done because Marvel still had hopes of getting a major studio interested in making a big budget Punisher film and wanted to withhold the most recognizable aspects of the character.

My thoughts exactly! This was Punisher MAX before there ever was a Punisher MAX. Think about it: Ennis' In the Beginning and the War Zone movie begin with The Punisher breaking into the house of an aquitted mob boss and killing everyone--Just like this 1989 movie! No Microchip either (I know, he was in the MAX run, but he was killed by Castle within the first few issues) for logistical support, just an old bum informant he bribes with whisky. He's ruthless, not toothless like the 2004 film

I am going to buy this movie. I watched it and It has a more "raw" feel to it. Thomas Jane...meh, war zone had a good concept but lacked a little in something I can't put my finger on. Actually I thought Man on Fire with Denzel Washington had a good feel for a punisher esque type movie. The feel and story telling is bad ass all you would have to do is replace Denzel with an actor that could be the punisher. Denzel did a great job in that movie though.

Dolph Lundgren..... was the best Punisher. He came the closest, though NONE of them really looked, acted, and/or talked "enough" like the Punisher in the comic. The last two were "closer" to the look, but not close in the acting or the talking, i.e the "presence". Dolph was likely perfect on that though, which is why he was the best in my book.
As lousy as this 80s movie was, it's still MUCH better than the two recent "Punisher" movies.
And yes, Dolph Lundgren does, indeed, rule. His best line is when he's asked what he has to say for all of the criminals he's killed so far: "It's a work in progress." lol
I love this one cuz its so grity and rough. I know it has cheesy parts but its a hell of a lot better then this shit coming out from marvel now. They spend more on special effects then actors.
All 3 have been good. Frank is the kind of character that can take different "forms" so to say. And also his backgrounds. Dolph was the "Im killing everyFUCKINGthing" kinda Pun, Jane was the "Im depressed, drink and kill bad guys to get over it all." Ray (War Zone) went back to brutal ways (like War-Zone comics) The actor that was Jigsaw was GREAT! It wasnt Jane but it was a great and a different storyline.

They dropped the fucking ball on this casting. In 1989, Bruce Campbell was a dead ringer for Frank Castle. I once emailed Bruce if he was ever considered for the role and he said, and I quote, "They never even called me. What the heck?!"
WARZONE was not good it was like a paper that instead of being folded out it was folded up into a bundle and everything was kind of made into a short story instead of an elaborate one.
I felt like i had heard a story told by a teenager with medicore imagination .. pitting all the plot one point which was that stupid building plot .. and it was unrealistic in all ways.
The dolph punisher story was th elongest and deepest one in my opinion.
What? No it wasn't. It was better than I thought it would be but still not at good as the movie that came out right before War Zone. That was the Punisher as he should be. Great action film, great plot, and keeps his signature look for the whole movie. War Zone was a great action flick but the plot was not as good and his skull was so faded I couldn't even see it for most of the movie. This trailer doesn't show the skull at all and looks like a cheaper version of War Zone.
Have you ever read the comic, that War Zone was the true world of the punisher dark and violent, not sunny and bright with jokes. If you have not read the comics read them.
Have you even seen the movie that came out before War Zone? It's not sunny and bright with jokes. It's dark and violent. The diffence is that War Zone didn't have much of a plot and the Punisher didn't even look like the character. He was just a random guy with guns. He had his signature skull but it was too faded to see most of the time.

For one, I'm only compairing this trailer to the War Zone trailer. I have seen War Zone and the Punisher that came out right before it but have not seen this 1989 version of Punisher. Allso, it's my opinion, if you dissagree fine. Dolph Lundgren is Frank Castle...Not that wuss Thomas Jane and that Mr. Bean wannabe actor from the last film.......This movie is a perfect example that the action sequence is realistic and believable without CGI crap....Enough Said!!!

My thoughts exactly! This was Punisher MAX before there ever was a Punisher MAX. Think about it: Ennis' In the Beginning and the War Zone movie begin with The Punisher breaking into the house of an aquitted mob boss and killing everyone--Just like this 1989 movie! No Microchip either (I know, he was in the MAX run, but he was killed by Castle within the first few issues) for logistical support, just an old bum informant he bribes with whisky. He's ruthless, not toothless like the 2004 film

I am going to buy this movie. I watched it and It has a more "raw" feel to it. Thomas Jane...meh, war zone had a good concept but lacked a little in something I can't put my finger on. Actually I thought Man on Fire with Denzel Washington had a good feel for a punisher esque type movie. The feel and story telling is bad ass all you would have to do is replace Denzel with an actor that could be the punisher. Denzel did a great job in that movie though.

Dolph Lundgren..... was the best Punisher. He came the closest, though NONE of them really looked, acted, and/or talked "enough" like the Punisher in the comic. The last two were "closer" to the look, but not close in the acting or the talking, i.e the "presence". Dolph was likely perfect on that though, which is why he was the best in my book.

As lousy as this 80s movie was, it's still MUCH better than the two recent "Punisher" movies.
And yes, Dolph Lundgren does, indeed, rule. His best line is when he's asked what he has to say for all of the criminals he's killed so far: "It's a work in progress." lol

All 3 have been good. Frank is the kind of character that can take different "forms" so to say. And also his backgrounds. Dolph was the "Im killing everyFUCKINGthing" kinda Pun, Jane was the "Im depressed, drink and kill bad guys to get over it all." Ray (War Zone) went back to brutal ways (like War-Zone comics) The actor that was Jigsaw was GREAT! It wasnt Jane but it was a great and a different storyline.

They dropped the fucking ball on this casting. In 1989, Bruce Campbell was a dead ringer for Frank Castle. I once emailed Bruce if he was ever considered for the role and he said, and I quote, "They never even called me. What the heck?!"

WARZONE was not good it was like a paper that instead of being folded out it was folded up into a bundle and everything was kind of made into a short story instead of an elaborate one.
I felt like i had heard a story told by a teenager with medicore imagination .. pitting all the plot one point which was that stupid building plot .. and it was unrealistic in all ways.
The dolph punisher story was th elongest and deepest one in my opinion.

What? No it wasn't. It was better than I thought it would be but still not at good as the movie that came out right before War Zone. That was the Punisher as he should be. Great action film, great plot, and keeps his signature look for the whole movie. War Zone was a great action flick but the plot was not as good and his skull was so faded I couldn't even see it for most of the movie. This trailer doesn't show the skull at all and looks like a cheaper version of War Zone.

The diffence is that War Zone didn't have much of a plot and the Punisher didn't even look like the character. He was just a random guy with guns. He had his signature skull but it was too faded to see most of the time.

I never said it was MORE violent. Just that it wasn't "sunny and bright" as you claimed. It's an origin story, so what, you're complaining that you had to wait till his family was murdered in front of him for the violence to start insted of starting right out of the gate with a huge killing scene? I'm complaining that the story sucked and the character does not even look like Punisher in War Zone.

For one, I'm only compairing this trailer to the War Zone trailer. I have seen War Zone and the Punisher that came out right before it but have not seen this 1989 version of Punisher. Allso, it's my opinion, if you dissagree fine. There are no wright or wrong answers when it comes to opinions so no reason to go around calling people stupid just because they have a different opinion than you.
