The ending ... different? pitchy? I am not sure but who cares really ... for when it is this man singing, you have ears, listen, only he can turn pitchy or different into divine sweetness ... I have never heard such a gifted vocalist in all my life. I have been blessed to hear this man sing. He brings a style to this song which humbles most singers, I am sure.
I gotta say, despite the fact that I love Colm as a singer and performer, I really didn't think this was his best rendition. The hand movements were a distraction for me too. But oh well, even the greats have days where they even don't like up to their perfections.
@thephantom3194 He always sings up a half step for some reason. Maybe it was just an off night for him, as Colm can hit notes much higher than A with ease. He can sing Pity The Child after all lol
To the person who wrote the description. I'm not absolutely sure of the location but it looks like the Royal Albert Hall in London. Also, having seen Les Mis 3 times in London's west end (their equiv. to Broadway in the U.S.) I have watched Colm age and from his physical appearance my guess would be that it was filmed in the early '90s (again, just a guess).
No matter where he sang it or when he did it, he will always be one of the theatre's greatest treasures. Thanks for posting the video.
I L O V E every single thing about his vocals! Thats remarkable in itself. I cant say that for any other voice on this planet. Every word, every vowel.....
yes, I savor each sensation while listening to every second of life's bliss your voice brings me! R U married? just kidding.
If you like Colm, there is a CD out there called Stage Heroes. This to me is the ultimate Colm experience. once you hear it you'll know what I mean. There are songs from Phantom, Les Mis, Porgy & Bess, West Side Story etc.
This originally appeared in the early '90s on an episode of PBS's Great Performances. The actually concert was called "Show Stoppers," and was introduced by Marvin Hamlish. Wlikinson sang this song and "Bring Him Home," on the episode. You can find this arrangement of "Music of the Night" on CW's "Stage Heroes" album as well.
