As a person who absolutely can't stand watching Naruto dubbed.. I gotta say, after watching the gameplay / cutscenes of the whole game, I like Catherine dubbed
Really hard to take such a "serious" game seriously with it's goofy character design and boring voice acting.
Sorry, but if all Atlus can do is rehash it's Persona series til the end of time, I don't care. The last game published by Atlus I even cared for was Contact, and it was made by a much more interesting developer, Grasshopper.
And, as you can see with this video, marriage and commitment doesn't serve as a guaranteed mature plot device for some people, some just don't care.
I'm convinced that I'm the only person here who most of the time prefers English dubs over subs.
It's just that, while Japanese dubs are fine and all, the voices all seem to be the same. There isn't really a unique voice to my ears, there seems to be an obvious pattern to the voice acting, which is fine, but it takes the enjoyment out of listening to the voice.
There seems to be a higher number of unique voices in the English language. However, it may just be because I understand it.
@zomgtehrei I doubt the majority of the people prefer to have only the Japanese dub and read the subtitles, and also what is wrong with English dubs, sure some times they are just plain awfull, but I find they did a good job on this one, + if you look at it another way, english fit this game better then japanese.
@Algoze I'm not talking about the majority, I prefer subs because I beleive english voice acting is sorely lacking. And how is and english dub more fitting that the riginal japanese dub in a japanese game.

Either way, the reason why I say english is more fitting, is because unlike the Persona game, where the story takes place in Japan and is integrated with their culture. Catherine isn´t the same and is set in a more western setting. That is why language such as english can be more fitting then Japanese. It is not like the whole damn world speaks japanese, and in same way not the whole universe like in Star Trek :p
@zomgtehrei That I don´t know it might be very well that it could be much cheaper simply just subbing the game. But as I don´t know the details about the fees I can´t give an answer, as well as there might be licensing fees involved off using the japanese dubs instead. Although in this instance, seeing as it is Atlus US that is releasing the game, I don´t think this matters here. Either way, production wise I would guess it would be cheaper to sub it.
@zomgtehrei I think subs make more sense, logically for me, and economically for the developers. I can't stand dubs in foreign films. I guess I'm the only person that can read subs and watch the movie skillfully enough to where I don't miss anything.

To the people that are biased against the english dubs, and believe the japanese voice track is always better.
I have no intention of attacking your preference, but for some people to disregard this game simply because it isn't in japanese, without trying it, is a bit annoying.
@Algoze I always prefer the original voices simply because it gives me a chance to hear a different language for once, and it's usually not that common to have perfect voices for dubbing. Also, if a line is extremely cheesy, at least you don't have to actually hear it in your own language.

@SkellionPowalskiz Not sure if you're bashing on the game above or not. As I saw it had some good horror elements that prey on fears of commitment and all that in-tails. And personally I thought that the puzzle gameplay was very original and very fun. Especially in boss battles when the player(me) has to outrun the boss or be killed in a hideous and unpleasant fashion. On the note of sex, anyone who wants to buy a game for sexual elements alone yes is very shallow and a moron to boot.
@101ragnaroc Quite hypocritical when you say that, since this game kind of sells itself off of sex. Advertisements, cover art, overall plot, it all has sex, not graphic, mostly implied or in the background, but it still has sex.
Without sex, the story would be gone, without sex, they more than likely would have gotten at least a few less sales. Believe it or not, some of the people buying this game bought because of, I don't know, the hot blond chick taking her top off?

Hell I'm 14, and I'm very interested in this game, not by boobs not by sex. By the descisions and the consequences the plot of the games faces intrigues me. I am an otaku but still, I'm buying it for the story not for the boobs. Besides most games and commercials are sold by sex, or suggestive themes, just look at them.

I can be playing a game for 6+ hours straight-get to a puzzle, and the overwhelming response to turn the game off would be unbearable. But...having finished Catherine...I LOVE IT. honestly im pissed im sure this isnt going to be a dual audio game, and the voices arent good enough like earlier persona games, but what im really pissed at is that i cant choose like with persona 3, in that case i bought the game and i downloaded a moded iso that had english subs but jap voices, can i do that with a ps3? no, because if i start using those stupid pendrives ill loose my psn privileges lol -_-
I like the voices, Atlus has never failed me in that department.

Without sex, the story would be gone, without sex, they more than likely would have gotten at least a few less sales. Believe it or not, some of the people buying this game bought because of, I don't know, the hot blond chick taking her top off?

Hell I'm 14, and I'm very interested in this game, not by boobs not by sex. By the descisions and the consequences the plot of the games faces intrigues me. I am an otaku but still, I'm buying it for the story not for the boobs. Besides most games and commercials are sold by sex, or suggestive themes, just look at them.

But to be honest i do prefer japanese Vincent's voice. Im not saying IT'S BETTER or that the eng Vincent's voice is bad (infact i like it,it sounds good). I just prefer the jap one.
