I'm not going to comment on my beliefs on the politics of the DPRK. I simply want to say what a beautiful country (North) Korea is. I've never been there but this travelogue has really entranced me. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful experience, I hope someday to be able to do something similar.
It seems that DPRK relies a lot on their railway system and, though trains look slow, the tracks seem to be in a fairly well maintained condition; their railway system has more than 5224 km of railway lines, with more than 4211 km electrified, compared to 661 km in South Korea and less than that, in Portugal.
In Portugal, our railway system has been, successively, cut down to less and less length of railway line; many have been abandoned! It´s a disgrace to see nice station buildings abandoned!
kc139799 : Oh, yeah! Much cleaner than anyone in your fucking country! And, I have seen with my own eyes when I worked as part of an international aid organization in various parts of DPRK from 1995 to 2006.
"north korea is a country without personal freedom , why dont you talk about that ? hah?"----->Because I don't wanna go Salem witch hunt on DPRK :) I do agree DPR Korea has a bad record on personal freedom, but why do u compare DPR Korea w/ EU and US only instead of other countries in Asia?!
I dare you to go to Singapore and say "PAP stroke gay goat" t-shirt and I wanna see what happens. Interestingly in Singapore media law, u can't say more than 3 words against govt in print r any media.
@ThatGuyFromAustria : DPKR doesn't want to convince depraved and brainwashed people from the 'west'. I have seen with my own eyes as to the quality of their railway system. It is much better than many countries in the decadent 'west'!
and North Korea is just total Stalinist state..horrible conditions for people living there..so if someone glorify Stalinism ..shut up and move to wotk to North Korea.!
@napajedlacek During "stalinism" in soviet people got the worlds first free universal healtcare (which USA still hasn't been able to get despite Obamas attempt), aswell as number one in the world for steal production, heavy industry, and second to usa in agricultural. After his death his work was used to (for example) build the worlds largest car factory outside Moscow.
@X97531X -haha ..you make me smile...-yes .,,poeple worked very hard for peanats..,sometimes the worked hard for their own death.......hmm very good ..:-((
have you ever heard about GULAG and their jewish commanders ???
@napajedlacek yes, 1.2 million died in Gulag, regretable and it's a shame some came from working on the Metro in Moscow, but 60% of those were classified as criminals, same as criminals are classified in any other coutnry (most of them at least). And don't think USA havn't used forced labour, it's forced labour when prisoners build roads, the fact USA has the longest ammount of paved roads comes from forced labour. And before that, railway lines where built by slaves.
@napajedlacek : How do you know, stupid psychopath? Have you lived there? I lived 11 years there and know how grotesquely the fucking 'western media' (my shit!) slander DPRK, just out of intolerance, since they dont care as shit for the imperialistic US and its satellites. So, go on swallowing your guillible cock-and-bull stories about the DPRK and they care a shit for what the 'west' think of them!
Iam getting through your report and they have a almost similar cars in the Czech Republic..
mannn ..u can see what happened if your country is 40 years in communism ...
and we Czechs built one of the first trains to Vienna..
so Korea could really explode after reunification ,but it will not happened any time soon ,cause suinshine policy of South will nto allow that.Just how many million refugees they will have to deal with ??
same as Cuba ..,no better life in the near future.
Of course there are road checkpoints in North Korea, but this guy is just a railway crossing keeper, responsible for that nobody crosses the tracks when a train approaches... like on many other places elsewhere in the world...
@Euroman002 : Yes, your majesty! And, what do your grace have to say about it? Can you fix it? Begone, stupid asshole, another bigoted 'westerner', who knows nothing except the slanderous shit defecated by the so-called 'western press'. Go ( if you can) and live in the DPRK, and then( if your eyes are open) you will see the truth..
@vijayamohanan Calm down, man, I only noticed a probably failure. Only this. All that you thought about me, is only in your imagination, because you can't judge a man only reading: "And the railway crossing was open, probably for a failure.". Ok? I suggest you to study English better than you did until now. Failure => broken.
@PanekPL NO you have deceived yourself by western lies. Don't believe your government north korea is not what you think it is. This is actually the north korea they don't want you to see.
The longest train connection in the world is the Kiev-Vladivostok through car, it runs a little bit more than 11000km. The Moscow-Pyongyang is "only" the second longest.

The tracks seem to be in no good condition. It shouldn't be that they are so unevenly built to make that kind of noise.

Moscow-Pyongyang is probably the longest train connection in the world, its well over 10,000km in length.
However, there is only one Moscow-Pyongyang through car, which is running once every two weeks.
Western Railways should actually be able to issue through tickets right to Russian border to North Korea at Tumangan(Gr).
