anyone know what L. Graham used for an amp on the studio recording of this tune? That's some mean distorted fuzzy bass tone, especially for how early that was.
For those that might miss the little details, check out :30 seconds at the amp on the left side of the screen shaking with funk. THat's what I'm talkin' 'bout, funk it up Larry!!!!!!!!!!
One cool tidbit is that when Funkadelic was the backing band for Ruth Copeland, Billy Bass Nelson talks about how when Ruth opened for Sly & The Family Stone, him and Larry used to trade licks and jam. That just shows you just how the funk got spread :)
This is : "The Concert For The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame" edited on cd with Al green, Aretha, Jerry lee Lewis, BookerT and many more. See information on Google.
I don't think this video is edited in dvd. I ve seen this gig on tv. First they play "Thank U 4 let in me...". Just two song of Pfunk was broadcasting beetween a lot of artist.
I have the first song on vhs but I dont know how can I put it on youtube.
YouTube will not let you post a video more than ten minutes long. If I would have included the whole performance, it would have gone over the limit. I have "Thank You" and will post it at some point.
interesting how they put in those jazzy horn parts. larry graham is the man, what an amazing talent. but i must say its just not the same without sly...
Dude, if you don't know who George Clinton is, I think you'd better brush up VERY FAST. One of his songs, One Nation Under a Groove, WILL BE THE FIRST SONG PLAYED at the inauguration dance should Obama win.
What the hell happened to the first part of this performance? They did "Thank You..." before they did "I Want To Take You Higher". I want the whole funk, not half.

That was funksmanship and showmanship personified. Not many people on that stage, or in that arena could've passed a drug test.
