  • As a veteran of many boils, the key to the flavor is letting them soak. Drop the crawfish in and return the water to a boil, boil 3-5 mintues, then turn off. The key then is adding a half-bag of ice to the pot till the water temp is about 190. The longer you soak them the spicier they get. I soak 30-45 minutes. WARNING . . . if you fail to add ice or cool down the water, you'll overcook the crawfish. You'll know because they'll be rubbery and/or be hard to get out of the tail. Happy eats.

  • yum looks good

  • That old mans a fuckin asshole...dickhead

  • can you just boil the crawfish? just in water!

  • @SeaSickDrop yes you can but you won't have any flavor

  • one of the better crawfish boil videos on youtube. now if only i could get them up here in canada

  • where do you get the kicker spice from?

  • i caught some crawfish from a creek. are they safe to eat?

  • What if i just want to cook 1 crawfish to taste it? same process cant i rip something out like gut it so i get the shit out?

  • are those really spicy? cuz im a wimp.. it looks hot :[

  • When I catch crawfish, I don't use a trap at all. I use a stick, string, and bacon and I catch more than the idiot next to me with a crawfish trap. About 20 a day which is like 3 hours.

  • You know by not telling me your secret recipe I get to invent my own and claim that californians know how to boil crawfish the right way, right?

  • what do they taste like.????...

  • @darrylhaynes THEY TASTE LIKE SPICY CRAB

  • how do you catch that much crawfish at once??

  • @ebob1392 Depends on if they are farm raised or trapped in the wild. Crawfish farms are all over the South mostly in Louisiana and they can harvest quite a bit at one time. Fisherman in the swamps lay out many traps at once, sometimes they get a huge harvest..sometimes they don't.

  • i never had crawfish but i wanna try it it looks soooo good omggg

  • @1lsuRedneck is right!! Purging isn't necessary. The salt also makes them more difficult to peel. It wasn't mentioned here... But butter is also not a good thing. If you've ever eaten crawfish/mud bugs at pappadeaux's, then you know what I mean.

  • @brianlvincent69 I would politely disagree with the purging isn't necessary. It is 100% necessary if you don't want mud in your water and it gives it a "swampy" taste as my wife calls it. You don't have to use the salt though but you do have to rinse them at least 2 to 3 times but I don't let them sit for 25 mins.

  • @romer2cc sorry if i mis- led you. what i was trying to get at is..... strictly the salt... Rinsing them until the water is clear as day is a /must/!!! However, through decades of experience within my families cajun roots, salt makes them extremely difficult to peel. It also differs the boil seasoning as well. To each his own though. I was only trying to imply that salt is not needed to have a true and "traditional" crawfish boil.... especially not several boxes of salt.

  • Dude! Ty so much!

  • genocide at 6:39

  • Did she say Old Spice was in there? Holy crap! XD

  • uhh!!!!!!!!!

  • " oyeah n dont forget to add a fresh pak of Marlboro light for that finishing touch"

  • I like adding my corn last. Cause dat shit gets hotter then anything ells. It soaks dat spice up like crazy..

  • thank you for the video. I have a boil coming up and I need to know so I don't make a lot of people unhappy. Great video and very informative. I actually had to week through 10 videos before any of the gave instructions. So thanks again.

  • finally a good video on how to cook crawfish ..i cook it kind of the same mmm im hungry

  • aw thats so sad... forcing the poop out of them. haha

  • I live in Mississippi and we do it just like this brotha.

  • Damn thats alot of ingredients i bet you dropped about 300 on all that

  • I have nothing against people purging crawfish, but it really is an unnecessary step. Crawfish live in the mud, but they don't eat the mud. A good rinsing in a cooler is all you need to do. Crawfish live in fresh water. When you put them in salt water allot of them will die. If it makes one feel better eating them purged, then have at it. I've had them both ways and honestly can't tell the difference. Dirty bugs that haven't been rinsed will add grit to the water that will get into the heads.

  • i use the same dip for like some other stuff

  • Hahaha! This looks amazing! (though, you guys are nuts with the quantity of pepper in there... holy crap...)

  • @ultimadj you aint seen nothin, my fmily adds real cayenne peppers and hotsauce to the boil, talk about cleaning your sences

  • First time I've ever seen mushrooms added to the mix. Looks good though. " )

  • Good instructive video but I wish you'd tell us exactly what you use to season the water

  • Man this looks like an amazing dinner... nice one. The salt trick is something I've never heard before...

  • I so cant wait to get home and have my first crawfish in over 3 years. Been stuck here in the wilds of Missouri at Ft Leonardwood,,,,,,they dont know how to cook up here

  • looks like 80qt pot

  • Just curious....what size pot are you guys using? I'm assuming an eighty quart?

  • Not tryna b a smartass, but if I leave the crawfish soak in water for 25 minutes after it's finished boiling,, won't it make tge crawfish soggy?

    Great video

  • @johnnyguilbeau After the first 5 minutes of boiling with the flames on, you are not finished cooking the crawfish. The 25 minute soak afer cooling the pot finishes the cooking process without making the crawfish soggy.

  • @ebustaman I love craw fish. Can you send me the exact recipe?

  • @ebustaman does the salt really make em crap out all the stuff they have in the vien in their tail? because i never did tht and somtimes some of tht poop dident tast good at all.

  • @Dano78229 Salt is traditional, but some folks now say it's not really needed. What you have to do to purge them, salt or no salt, is keep covering them with water, draining, then covering and draining again until the water runs clear.

If you've got chlorinated city water, you probably don't need the salt, but you will need more changes of water than without salt.

  • @johnnyguilbeau what will make crawfish soggy is if after u cook them u put them in an ice chest and close the lid
